  1. I think I will get another lab, the only reason I would like another one is so that I can compete with both and then Mason also has company when I am not home. I think he must get very lonely with only the cats for company
  2. Beagle was going to be either #3 or #4. There is no question about me owning one, it's just a matter of when And if Mr Council man will let me... Go on... if it's not for another 12-18 months we could get one from the same litter I will also be looking to get a pup around this time.............
  3. Hi there, your dogs allergies sound awful, for the elimination diet you dont have to feed roo meat, it can be any meat your dog has not had before, if we go on an elimination diet I am going to ask if I can use turkey or maybe goat or camel. Even though my dog has not been off cortisone for 30 days I am still taking him to the derm as they can guide you and give you advice about what to do. Maybe send Zayder Asher a personal message as she may know where to get the Atopica etc.
  4. Siberian Husky without a doubt. The other two wouldn't even be close to what a Sibe sheds. Yeah a friend of mine owns 9 dogs, a variety of breeds but the majority are husky and she recons they shed like nothing she has ever owned before. I must say my lab also sheds loads, I am forever vacuuming and sweeping up outside.
  5. Rach - their is agility at Carine open space this sunday, I will be there all morning.
  6. I always train my dog before dinner, he will do a sit stay with the food in front of him but when its not there than thats a problem. Someone suggested taking his food down to the park in a container, making him do a sit stay and if he doesnt break then giving him the whole dinner.
  7. I held my lab pup the whole way home, the only time he cried was in the car, he obviously didnt like the first car trip.
  8. I had the opposite with my dog, he can eat raw but its kibble he gets the runs on and if i do have to feed him kibble, Holistic Select is the only one he can tolerate

  13. I think he could have been hot and tired, we had a long session this morning where the trainer worked with us each for a short while and then we stood around watching, stays were done at the end and by this time he was just hot and bothered ( he gets hot in the sun even if its not warm as he is black) so maybe thats it. He normally stays really well but just today he wanted to lie down. He did slip and fall at the park yesterday but I have not noticed that he is sore at all. It was impossible to put him back in the car as we each had a turn at each exercise, he would have been in the car for like 10 or 15 mins at a time and then it would have been our turn again.
  14. Unless he actually has adverse food reactions to those specific items, then not adding them to the diet wont make a difference to the secondary yeast infection he gets on his skin... Monica Segal discusses the myth of not feeding "sugars / grains to feed the yeast" in chapt 18 of Optimal Nutrition... I can type out the bit on yeast later if you want... need to get off the comp for a moment now though (sore neck!) Here's some more info: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_yeast...f_the_skin.html This is from the first edition of Monica Segal's K9 Kitchen, instead of Optimal Nutrition, but its the same info: Thanks ZA, just shows that the 'experts' sometimes dont know what they are talking about, was told to keep him off certain foods.
  15. I wanted to go Tiggy but the driving down 2 days in a row puts me off.... You're welcome to crash at mine if that helps you any. Thanks Katie, I dont think I will be going though, need to save my $'s for the derm for him, its more important at this stage.
  16. There were 4 of us, and the one other dog kept getting up during the sit stay, so maybe that was it.
  17. My friend had a lab when I was a teenager and she was a lovely friendly happy dog, I just loved her so i got myself a lab and I would not swop him for the world.

  19. Ptolomy- all dogs seem to lose their minds at the beach, I know Mason does, he does not listen to me at all and today in our training group we discussed it and another lady has the same problem with her dog too. I think they just love it and get so excited
  20. I fed kibble for years until I got my lab and he has allergies, I find that on raw food he is a bit better and I feel more comfortable in knowing what is in the food he is getting. If you look and humans fresh fruit and veg are best for us as well as meat, you dont see humans eating kibble which is why i have stopped giving it to my dog.
  21. My dog kept lying down in the sit stay during our lesson today, I went closer and rewarded him more frequently while he was up but he made it very hard by wanting to lay down the whole time. Any advice??
  22. Thanks for sharing your experiences ZA, I am hoping the immunotherapy will work for Mason seeing as he is not that badly affected by allergies ( by this I mean he does not break the skin by itching or biting but he does get sores on his feet) He is also prone to yeast infections in his ears so I dont give him anything in his diet that has wheat/gluten or yeast. I am slowly changing him to more raw than kibble as I also believe that dry is not really beneficial to dogs with allergies.
  23. For those of you that have done the immunotherapy, what percent would you say your dog has had in reduction of symptoms?
  24. I wanted to go Tiggy but the driving down 2 days in a row puts me off....
