Wow that is a long surgery! Had no idea it would take so long. Pls post back later how he went and I will check back first thing in the morning, will you be seeing him again tonight? Probably not. He will be pretty groggy from the GA and its a really long way to drive. I will go visit in the morning though if I can. Yeah it is really far and he wont be fully conscious for the rest of the evening and I am sure he will be sedated after the op too to stop him moving around too much. I feel so sorry for him, what an awful thing to happen to such a young boy. I am really scared of bowel obstructions, at least I know what the signs are now!

Big hugs to Linc from Mason and I, always trust your gut with vets etc, I have learnt that if you are not happy its better to get a second opinion . -

They will probably have to do some blood tests, poor thing. -

Hoping Lincoln is ok, the drooling does sound like it is from nausea. -
Your dog might not be doing this but I had 2 large breed dogs and when they drank water it would often go down the wrong pipe and it sounded like they needed to vomit but nothing would come up.

Same Sex Aggression And Breed Predisposition
Mas1981 replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had 2 desexed ridgeback bitches they fought when they were entire and after they had been desexed. They loved each other most of the time but small things would set them off. And the one could not be taken near other dogs she was very dog aggressive. -
Vomiting Labrador And Digging
Mas1981 replied to temperamentfirst's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs often vomits after bones etc, I gave him a pigs trotter once and some of it got stuck to his teeth and he kept pawing at his face, maybe check that nothing is stuck in his mouth. I would maybe pop him to the vet if he isnt looking well. -
Save your money - you will have gotten a more accurate guess from this thread than you will from that test. My guess is also some staffie or rotti in there. I had a lab x staffie as a kid and she looked a lot like him, she also had the white patch on her chest. She was lovely to our family but she didnt like strangers at all!

What an awful thing to have happened, lucky the lunch shop was right there, would hate to think what would have happened if it wasn't..... I would also report it to the ranger as the next person or dog might not be as lucky.

How To Correct A "delicate" Dog?
Mas1981 replied to lovemesideways's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I say 'too bad' when Mason does not follow a command and I walk away, if i have treats with a high reward value i find him zooming into heel position ready to try and do the exercise again. This seems to work for him, I just say it in an even tone, I dont shout or say it loudly or anything. -
What Does Your Dog Do That Makes You Laugh?
Mas1981 replied to fiveplusone's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG Macka, Archie does this too !! Sometimes he stays in that position just watching what's going on around him. Front legs on floor, back legs still up on the couch. Must be a lab trait, Mason does it too, OH finds it hilarious! my GSP does this too HAHA! Can't believe there are others out there! Yes, sometimes he does the reflective pause while his back legs are still up on the couch, surveying the world for a while. It cracks me up! Mason will even carry on watching TV like that for maybe 5 minutes or so at a time? It cannot be very comfy! -

No he actually eats them quite slowly I think he just maybe cant digest them properly, he is a problem child.

Sorry to be asking so many questions. Have you tried giving him chicken necks or frames? Do they make him vomit? I wonder why he vomits because of bones. My neighbour's Golden Retriever apparently vomits after eating bones, but I'm not sure how many kinds of bones he has been given. I gave him frames and necks as a pup and they did also make him vomit. This is the first time he has vomited on roo bones he used to be ok with them. I am thinking of buying him some turkey necks and frames which have been minced, that way he gets the bones but then he wont vomit.

I do give him bones a few times a week but I have to be careful as he often vomits pieces up during the night that he cant digest. I have fed him raw only ( was doing a mix of kibble and meat) for a week now and it sounds silly but I can actually see the difference in him, appearance and energy wise, he looks way better, sleeps better at night and has more energy. I have also given him lamb heart, chicken giblets and lamb liver. It doesn't sound silly! I know that after eating dodgy food myself, one day of eating good food makes a huge difference to how I feel! It sounds like you're giving him a good variety of body parts. Now you can just watch his weight. After a while, if he loses too much weight, increase his food. If he gains too much weight and you can no longer feel a few of his ribs, decrease his food. Are you giving him lots of kinds of bones, or just one kind a few times a week? Are his allergies anything to do with the species of animal he's fed? I am going to a dermatlogist next week with him and I think we may be given an elimination diet to do which is why I am not feeding more variety at present, I feel that he scratches way more on beef than on any other meat. His allergies tend to come and go and its really hard to point out what is making him itch and have very red paws which is why we think allergy tests are the way to go, of course a dog cannot be tested for food allergies ( that I know of) I suspect though that he is allergic to a variety of things number one being grass and plants and then maybe some dusts etc. He has a sensitive stomach and the only kibble he can eat without getting the runs is Holistic Select. I thought it was maybe chicken but I have been feeding him some chicken mince and his stomach has been 100%. His stomach is better on a home prepared diet, I just have to watch that he doesnt get too many bones or else he is guaranteed to vomit.

Hope the dog finds a good home, her current owners sound like morons.
-
On the meat packaging it says if you are feeding a raw diet feed 2,5% of the dogs body weight, so far I am feeding my dog 500g raw mince a day and then a bit of veg on top of this he weighs around 33Kg. Was just wondering if maybe that is too much.
-
I am still in contact with my boys breeder and still ask her questions etc as this is my first lab.
-
I am feeding my dog home prepared diet at the moment just to see if he is better with his allergies off kibble, when they say feed 2,5% of the dogs body weight is that only meat or is that meat and whatever veg etc that you feed combined?

Do You Walk Your Dog No Matter What The Weather ?
Mas1981 replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
If its raining very hard then I wait for it to slow down or stop but if its just a drizzle I take him over the road to the park and stand under the tree while he runs. -
From which areas kendall? I know of cases in Midland and Ellenbrook
-
I wonder why that is??
-
Mas - are most of those cases the owner not vaccinating the dogs when they were pups? Or failure to listen to vets advice on vaccination rulings, like don't take your pups to dog parks when they are not covered? You don't hear about many cases of adult dogs that had been vaccinated contracting it, and the only way they will is if their immune system has been wiped out. I have no idea but I am not going to take a chance and take my dog to where the vet thinks they are contracting it. There was an article up at the vet saying labs are one of the breeds that tend to pick it up more easily??
