awwwww indeed and I can confirm he is just a gorgeous in the flesh :D You did very well to get a clip without my noisy little sod's squealing barks in the background ;) One week tomorrow and my babies are released from prison They have had enough now and so have we, Louis in particular is going stir crazy - not surprising on 1 and 1/2 hours exercise a week! Can't wait to get them home for snuggles We have an expensive shopping trip this weekend as we need to get dog beds, cat bed, cat climbing frame, litter tray, toys etc They are going to be so spoilt on release OH you lucky thing - 1 week will hopefully go quickly and I didn't even have to edit Louie barking out of the video. I wish I could rally up enough support to get something done about the conditions in Quarantine. Just a cover over the roof would mean that the kennels/sleeping areas/bedding are not totally soaked when it rains. I know when we had kennels after hosing them down we would get the excess water out with a rubber broom, meaning the kennels would dry quickly - somehow I don't think this is done. At $39 a day I expect a lot more than what we are getting and unfortunately we don't have a choice. Oh and another gripe - I asked if anybody had booked the exercises area we were in for the 12-12.30 slot and was immediately told that all dogs were only allowed 30 minutes outside and we had had our 30 minutes. And while I am at it - visiting days are Monday, Wednesday and friday 11.30-12.30 it sucks! I feel better now I know how you feel, my cats suffered in there, it was so so cold that my small cat sat in the plastic igloo on the top and would not come out except to eat, when they were in JHB their 'cage' had a lovely carpeted area and it was not hosed out and wet everyday all day!! I got so upset visiting them that I eventually stopped and did not go at all the last week as it would stress me out so much, they also hardly ever had enough cat litter... Here are some pics, the first one was in Joburg where they spent 6 months, look at the lovely places they had to sleep and the floor was carpeted as it can get very cold there in winter. The second and third pics are from here in Perth.... You can see how cold she is here... Edited to say that the pink bed in the second pic I took in for her, in the first pic everything was supplied by the quarantine kennels, and you must see the set up for the dogs, they each have a wooden house with a lovely garden with a fence around.

Thats lovely that she comes to the house, does she do all areas?

So glad that he is there safe, I think he is going to have a lot of fun, will he be kept separate from other dogs or will he and his sister be together the whole time Valley?

Yes Mason is bad atm but I thought its because he is off all his shampoo's, medicines and creams etc as he cant have anything before his tests later in the week. His ears have been really pink and so has his tummy, he used to just get like Rosie and scratch a lot and then have what they call ' a low itch threshold" but now he is going pink too, his tummy had like bright red lines on it on sunday....

Oh no! Your poor animals seem to be having a hard time of it. If you dont come right with Toby's allergies maybe you should take him to see the derm, she is a lovely lady and i am sure she will be able to help, Mason has his tests on friday, will let you know how it goes. From the elimination diet we now also know that he is allergic to chicken. I am almost 100% sure Toby has a contact allergy to grass as his elimination diet did nothing to easehis symptoms but in the summertime when all the grass dies he is fine. We are taking him to the vet in a couple of weeks somaybe I can get a derm (as well as physio) referall and have a chat with them. (Hopefully I will win the lotto too to pay for these treatments) GR can't wait to hear more about this new pup. A lot of dogs are allergic to the grass seeds I believe The derm does also see patients without a referral, I just got one so that Petplan would pay for all of it

I am still tossing up whether to go to the Working dog show in Sept. Am going to an agility trial the day before and hopefully Team Penning the night before so don't know... plus I have my first foals due that week too The horses are good... although depending on Diva tonight there may be a palomino available to the first person who gets to our place with a float! I so hate having a show horse who hates having her legs trimmed Very stressful for Mum, myself and Diva! Ooh, baby Llamas are cute... although personally I prefer alpacas. I have an alpaca who sits on my desk at work :p OzJen can tell you how cute he is ETA: Emery I keep meaning to tell you what a cutey your girl is but then I get distracted Do you look at her and then the adults and wonder how she can be that small? Yep, your Alpaca is defienaitly cute and cuddly, Mirrawee, although I get funny visions of an Alpaca sitting on your desk. :D Now were could I get a horse float so I'm ready to take Diva home when you make her available, could she sit on my desk at work as my yard is too small. ;) Hope she is a good girl tonight, even if I would love to take her home. Lol I would take her if she was a male, I have never bonded with mares I miss my horse so much, havent been around horses in ages...

You are braver than me, I am having a hard time letting Mason stay at the dermatologist for a day I had a cry on the way to the train station and will probably have one tonight when it hits me he is gone. Yes, it will probably feel worst when you get home and no Lincs. You do seem remarkably upbeat about though, I'll take my hat off to you! Well, 2 weeks tomorrow and hopefully my new puppy will be born :p Cant wait to see the pup!! when you go with I will have to come along, Mason has grown up so fast I miss the cute puppy moments ( granted I dont miss him walking in his poop and then walking it into my house!!) as he had a permanently upset stomach most probably because I was feeding him chicken kibble...

When Do You Retire A Dog From Agility
Mas1981 replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Valley a lot of WA people take their dogs to Deb Nook for injuries, I think she is a acupuncturist and chiropractor? I could be wrong though. Loads of people have had lots of success taking their dogs to her, maybe ask her opinion of whether you should retire him or not. -

You are 100% right Stormie, I feel terrible about the way animals are slaughtered and transported etc but at the end of the day my dog has to eat and I cannot afford to feed him human grade meat ( he is just too big and eats way too much). We are back on roo and sweet potato because of a reaction to chicken, we will be trying out other proteins soon and if it turns out that beef, chicken and lamb all make his allergies react then I will feed roo, goat and maybe some horse. I'm the same as you - I can't afford to feed human grade either. But even human grade stuff isn't necessarily killed in a nice way. My boss still gets a bit upset when he talks about his field pracs to the abattoir and another vet I worked with turned Vego purely from her experience there. And this is for the human food. I can just imagine how horrible the abbatoirs are, I myself dont eat much red meat but I am not veggo, I try not to think about how the animals are transported and killed....

I dont know if they do grooming from there but my vet in Ellenbrook is really good, I would go to him no matter where he moved to etc the practice is Vital Vet 6296771 Dr Barry is there every day except Mondays when there is another lady vet. I am really fussy with my dog and we have seen 3 vets and I honestly think that he is very good, he has helped us a lot even though my dog is not an easy case because of his allergies...

RS do you have a video of Millie's trial??
-
Yeah he's doing much better. His fur is growing back and his quality of life has improved out of sight. Unfortunately his immunotherapy isn't working as well as it should and he keeps getting a recurrent staph infected folliculitis. So now he's on antibiotics, potentially for life. But whatever helps him! Poor boy! My dog is having his allergy tests this friday, we have been waiting to do it for ages as he kept getting really bad ear infections - we then worked out that he was allergic to the ear drops and they were making him worse!
-
My vet and dermatologist think the opposite and I have to agree, I could give my lab a whole bottle of Polaramine and he would have no relief, plus it makes a lot of dogs drowsy....
-
We are on Zyrtec, when he is bad its 2 tabs twice a day ( my dog is 34Kg) and when he is doing ok he gets 1 tab 2 x a day. I also buy the generics where possible.
-
I can probably make it, will know for sure closer to the time...
-
And I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest! Ruby is better, but lacks the attitude and concentration Millie has. Millie needs more proofing in distractions, though I think concentration is Mason's problem as well, he is so smart but he lacks focus and he also does not feel down if he disappoints me when we are around/ near other dogs - if he can even smell another dog he could not care if he is not doing an exercise perfectly...

Well done Millie and Brookie

Quantity Of Raw Food To Feed 7 Month Old Amstaff?
Mas1981 replied to Amerigo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We just completed a elimination diet of roo and sweet potato, my dog was getting around 400g of meat and a sweet potato a day and a roo bone every second day on top of that. I am now starting to add foods back in, my dog also scratched less on the roo meat etc. My boy weighs 34Kg but does not drop weight very easily! -
We have camel here in WA but I have been warned that there is something that dogs can catch from camel meat that makes them ill which is why I stayed away from it too, I used roo and sweet potato for my elimination diet, my boy is back on regular meats though from tomorrow.
-
I have also thought about feeding my dog horse meat but then decided against it as horses have usually had some medicines and vaccinations in their lives and I wasnt comfortable with that. My old horse was put down ( back in the country that I come from) in the beginning of the month - he was old but not sickly, his carcass was fed to the lions and I had no issues with that as in his death he is feeding another animal. Edited to add that the horse was put down on the retirement farm and his body was then transported to the lion park, its the easiest way to get rid of a carcass in a rural area and some other animals gained from it too

As far as I know there are no tests for food allergy its all done through elimination diets.

My goal for the year is to just compete in the club obedience comp in september, hopefully we will be ready by then - its only the stays I worry about.
