I wish people would remember thier code of ethics before openeing thier mouths and spreading rumors. (Not something I have expirenced much or that I am aware has happened to me. The problem with these listed Ethics is they directly relate to a dog, not the member, the member's family etc. I did notice that and I agree that it's a bit inclusive as far as that goes. But quite a few people here have mentioned people starting rumors about thier dogs, so they could I guess if they were really peeved and had proof take things further?

Try this it could work for you (for example what I say about my boy Toby) Stranger:Hmm ugly/handsome/brown/ect dog what is it? Me: He's Kelpieish Stranger: Kelpieish? Me: Well I have no idea but he kinda looks like a kelpie. or if you have a cross breed for which you believe you know the parents Stranger: Hmm whats that dog? Respondant: It's a [insert the breed the dog looks more like phenotypically] cross. Stranger: Ok. OR Stranger: Cross what?

Hmm living in a kennel with Lexi sounds pretty awesome. We would get so good at Rally. I have my eye on a 2000sqm block.... in my backyard. Just have to build that granny flat.

I agree. If people wanted to have shits and giggles about dog world gossip they could have atleast put this in offtopic so guests coming in with the view of reading up on getting a purebred dog werent confronted with this bullshit carryon. I agree, although very little of this is showing crowd gossip and most of it seems DOL/neighbourhood based.

What've You Done With Your Photography This Year?
RallyValley replied to iltby's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I have made more of an affort this year but still not enough of one. I have a copy of understanding exposure and hopefully a new body on the way for Christmas And I am also going to follow through with 52weeks and really try to improve. However this is a shot I took in January: And a month or so ago -
No I don't think it's too soon for the classes you are considering. Carolyn is very good at monitoring puppies and will be quick to tell you to have your quiet time with pup if he/she is getting overwhelmed or the training part is too advanced for the pup's age.

Thanks for the diagram. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Hmm a question for you obedience gurus. So a few things are starting to click for Toby. He will "line up" (left finish) at every angle and distance in current sessions (only up to about 5 meters away from him, although on Sunday I walked away 10 meters). His right finishes are coming along nicely. His fronts are lacklustre (but we only started working on these2 days ago) and from line up position I am taking one or two steps of heeling (so far have not tested this too much) maintaining eye contact. Where to from here without breaking him? Also is there a link to footwork for stopping and turns that is consitent for your dog? He will never be a high drive super heeling dog and to be perfectly honest I don't care if he is or not. He is a pet and I love him and I am having some fun with this so when/if I upload a video I know people will critisize that. He is probably never going to trial so it's just for me to learn training theory/shaping ect that I am pursuing this.

Yeah Toby is oretty adorable! He actually looks like a elf so much! My brother calls him "Dobby" like in Harry Potter.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RallyValley replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have a question. My next puppy I am going to start retrieveing training from day dot. What are some big DO NOT DO's and is there a really good resource for games to play with pups to encourage retrieveing drive? -

I am looking at an LM and the litter that would be ideal is planned to be mated this time next year. Attached is a pic of the grandsire. :D I am doing a trip east next year to meet some breeders and dogs and to make my mind up for sure. EFS -
Karen Pryor Academy In Australia

Seriously sick of these threads being overrun. No I do not want to read through 5 pages of one poster disagreeing that positive training is wrong because 'the dog might come up the leash'. MOST people don't have dogs like that! I am not saying e-collars and prong collars don't have a place, they do, but it is not inside an agility or obedience ring and definitely not for the average pet owner.... and who would KP method's be aimed at? Please make a thread for ring sports, or ecollars or prong collars or whatever turns you on and quit invading other threads, it's gotten to the point where I swear you search the forum every day for the word 'positive' and jump on that thread to berate everyone with the same antidote and the same 2 or 3 unproven facts over and over. You are not winning anyone over and only making an ass of yourself and a mockery of these methods. Fanatics like you are why some people are so close minded about positive punishment methods. -

RS I seriously came on to start exactly this thread I don't currently have a gundog but I am looking at getting a utility gundog breed in a couple of years and I really want to train up to Utility gundog ability test level. So I have a few questions too. 1. If you compete in another state besides WA do you have to have a gun licence? 2. Would you seriously never play tug with a dog you wanted to do retrieving with? 3. Is there a good resource out there for someone who wants to teach a dog retrieving without any force? 4. Is there a cheap store somewhere online to buy dummies and those mock birds? 5 (Probably mainly for FHRP) Do you find having a Utility Gundog makes it harder to compete in retrieveing trials against the retrievers? Also are there any good UG reference books out there for learning more out Utility Gundogs work and how to train them? The Spotted Devil; Please please please can you journal your pup's progress in the thread. -
I would like to come. Only what time does it start? I finish work at 3.30

Retrieving Ability Tests For Gundogs
RallyValley replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would contact the Gundog club of WA, the Retrieveing Club of WA and maybe even the lab club if I was you RS. Surely at least one club will hold this trial as it is a great gateway to proper trials. -
Thats crazy! You wouldn't expect a fire so close to the ocean.
