  1. Here is Toby having a go at Rally, as always feel free to comment, I am aware I did a few things wrong but maybe something you see is something I didn't notice ETA - glad to hear you got Ava holding the dumbell wuffles! That's one thing I am looking forward to teaching Toby
  2. I just did a Rally run through with Toby... he is a bit right-centric from agility days and my handling was a bit woeful but I am pretty happy with his attitude I have a clip coming on YouTube.
  3. Well done mate - he has come a long way in such a short period of time. How did you overcome his fear of bikes and does he still have anxious moments around them? I started working on the fear in late November - but he made a large leap forward a few weeks ago! (A bit detailed and possibly boring) I used a clicker and first of all clicked for being calm 2 m from the bike laying on the ground, then gradually moved closer, then clicked for him touching the bike, then cliked for him not trying to run away while I moved the bike while it was lying down (i.e spun the tyre, moved the handlebar or pedal), then I would lift the bike a little and click if he was calm and put it down to start over again, once it was fully up I would click touching again, then I would move the bike back and foward and click for calm near the bike, then he was touching the bike while moving then moving the handlebars side to side was a bit scarier then when he was calm around that I began sitting on the bike, back and forward ect. until I could ride with him next to me! The biggest breakthough was handlebars side to side while sitting on the bike. He is a lot better with other bikes i.e this morning on our walk a whole peleton of cyclists went by on the road and he saw them but didn't react however a bit later on a narrow footpath two cyclists came past and he went on my other side and hesitates a little, but nothing like a few months back where his tail would be between his legs and he would curl in a shaking little ball or he would slip his collar and bolt. Also the other day at Riverside we saw a bike and he noticed it (and was offleash) but still stayed near me as the bike went past about 1m away as he thought I might throw his ball! He is still a bit scared of cars but honestly I don't know if I want to change that... he is also scared of skateboards, trolleys, prams ect, all things we have to work on... hopefully after a few he will start to generalize all 'wheels' We should all take notice of how you had to break everything down into tiny pieces, lumping wasn't a choice, but how you have transformed a dog that was so frightened of a bike laying on the ground to one that will run beside one. A tremendous effort :D Thanks Ptolomy!
  4. well done toby! Isn't Toby the one who was frightened of bikes (or am I mixed up?) that's a very commendbale effor to for Toby if so geees! and lucky you emailed them or maybe it would never have been sent! Yep Toby is the one who was frightened of bikes! He will be going again this evening and went for a 2km walk this morning. :D He is still a little iffy around bikes but has come pretty far!
  5. Awesome idea! My mum comes biking with me so thats something we can practice at home before we hit the trails.

  7. Just received this from a friend, can anyone help or knows anyone? Guys I am helping out at the Dog's Refuge home and there was a 10 year old Rotti boy called King rescued by one of the trainers there from the Wanaroo Pound. He is in generally good health, but the Refuge wouldn't take him on cos of his age etc. Mel, who is fostering him, cannot afford to help with any ongoing health costs he may have and I am trying to help her find a retirement home for him. I've listed him on DOL for her, and she says he is a really big sook. I'm just sending a message to you guys, my doggie mates knowing you have connections in the doggie world. Rottie Rescue know of him, and are also trying to find him a forever home. Just wondering if any of you guys might know of someone willing to take him on till the end of his days? Cheers
  8. RV you're doing wonders with the Toby man - the biking might actually be giving him confidence (the way agility can for some dogs) - or maybe it was just the pikelet Well done, anyway. Probably the pikelet! :D My mum made them and they were pretty good! ;) No in all honesty I think he is starting to get his confidence back.. hopefully we can get the dog I saw at Nationals back... but even better! :D
  9. I did some obedience work with Toby this morning! He was going pretty well! Enthusiatic recalls to front, he was a bit too egar to train if anything! Probably because I was using pikelet :D :D However he was biked last night, walked this morning and then went over to my brothers for a play with his housemate and no fear, all happy! I will try and film a session showing his bike skills and some obedience, it might be a little messy... I am avoiding teaching heelwork because I have no idea how and I think I may be encouraging bad habits by not teaching it, or I am teaching it by accident, just not very well.
  10. I was the opposite! I started with a BC and have changed breed! I had Lilly as a 7 year old, she was a very mixed breed, we have videos of me and my friends at 10 doing 'showjumping', 'dressage' and 'chase me charlie' with the dogs.... had someone known to point me in the direction of an obedience/agility club that would have been awesome! When I got Jack (a border collie impulse pet shop dog)I took him to puppy classes because Lilly was a bit DA, at the puppy classes the teacher gave a handout of local obedience and agility clubs. From puppy classes I waited until Jack was 12 mths and went to the agility club and we did agility up to the pre trialling novice class, I was 15 then. My parents made me stop agility while I did my high school leaving exams and in my first year of uni just as I was enquiring about starting it up again Jack was hit by a car and died I now have a dog that has more problems then I have fingers and we are working on issues and sports he can do (tracking, endurance test, Rally-O). My next dog breed is chosen with what I want to do in mind (showing, agility, utility gundog test ect) however temprament is the most important. One day in about 5-10yrs from now I am getting a breed that is highly un-suitable for sports (an English Setter!) and I will just try and see what I can do but also know going in that it may not be much .
  11. Me and Toby biked 3km's this evening.. I wasn't very tired but Toby is Will keep doing the 3km ride until he is a bit fitter. :D
  12. I have just been informed all reps have voted yes and we are just waiting on the ANKC HI Rally Valley Is this just the reps in WA or is it all States? The impression I got was that it was all states
  13. I have just been informed all reps have voted yes and we are just waiting on the ANKC
  14. Angelsun can I please crosspost the bolded part onto a WA sports list? I may take out this sentence though Remember, MANY reps don't know about Rally and many don't care...they are stuck in the Obedience rut and see no advantage to this sport and therefore will vote against it coming in. (as well, I think many realize it's a lot more work to judge this sport and they simply can't be bothered) I hope you do get back to WA! I'm not willing to try teach myself any signs beyond novice and my repitoire is getting a bit limited
  15. It makes me feel caustrophobic and I noticed when you can see her from the back she is constantly veering slightly left from the dogs weight... would you even be allowed to go in an obedience ring here like that! surely since the dog is touching her leg so much and her arm touches his ears when she swings it that is double handling?
  16. Landsdale looks like it is even further then K9! Will have to come one time, I know who you mean and it would be fun to see the 4 black retrievers all playing :p Ralley we can meet up to train one night closer to you and Tiggy though, dont know if I will be going to Landsdale every week so if you and Tiggy pick a time and a place which is central to all of us I am happy to meet up. ETA Landsdale is only 8 mins from me Ralley so I am sure it would not be that far for you?? You are about a 1/2 hour drive from me ;) I live about 4kms south east of Midland. I will have to see if Boya Oval has lights on on Monday nights.... thats just up the road from me :D

  18. Yay Strauss!!!!! It must have been that massive jackpot on Sat after coming out of the ring :p Are people heading to K9 tonight? I have my on monday night training group now, ( if 2 is a group lol) tonight it the first night, quite excited. Where is it? In Ellenbrook? ;) (If it's close I might come join at some stage)
  19. We need something like PAL Superdogs again... I found one reference to them online: http://equestrian.cyberhorse.com.au/index....s&Itemid=37

  21. I saw you for like 1/4 of a second! I had a very rushy night because I started work at 10pm so I couldn't stop and chat. :D
  22. I will have my little brag. I have just come back from a bike ride with Toby... the brag is that his bike phonia was so intensive last year I had a behaviourist out to help us with the issue and today I had him running next to the bike without stressing or worrying... and it wasn't a one off! We have been on a few rides this week! A big for clicker conditioning! Going back in November I had him slip his collar and run out into the road because there was a bike 100m up the road - this was the height of his fear.. so I am very pleased thats one less anxiety my nervey dog has now. (Yes I know I have been on about this in a few threads but it is really such a big thing to me!) RS Mille and Ruby look very nice! They run at a pace similar to Toby... isn't it nice not having to sprint :D
