You (along with many others who continue to be dishonest & deceitful to their landlords) are why their are so few pet friendly rentals... I don't see how one well behaved dog would be anywhere near as destructive as a toddler or even the way some slob people live. As long as Mas's landlord is happy with the house I don't see how it's any issue to you.

I don't have one but I have been known to tag along with the local wei club. I can't really answer the questions and you know I think the wei club does the most awesome job! What kinds of activities would you like to see more of in your local breed club? I can answer this though... I would love to see a gundog club/gundog breed or part group club run the gundog ability test and gundog obedience/retrieveing/socialization days.

Not Bowen Therapist but you can't go past Deb Nook - she is (I think) $70 initially and $50 after and excellent value for money Yeah I really do need to take Mason to her probably sometime. Where is she based again? Deb's in Shelley She did Toby's titre testing too! She's the best (as I am sure Ptolomy can attest to as well)

Ok so mabe a stupid question but as a few of you know my next dog will be a Utility Gundog, and I am hoping to train towards the Utility Gundog ability test. As I read through the requirements for most items I think ok I know how to train this or this book I have will help me train this but this part puzzles me: FIELD The dog will be required to hunt on its own, off lead for up to ten minutes in a suitable area containing 3 or 4 items of game. The dog must demonstrate: Use of nose Quartering and ground covering Use of wind in all directions Game finding ability – the dog must find at least two items of game Pointing – the dog must scent point and be given the opportunity to point into the wind This to me sounds like something you can't actually train, the dog either has it or not right? (Also any recommendations for good UG resources)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! Which setter was it? ;) I will be at training Monday but dogless and up the top in the building

I know a Lab with suspected EIC the fits have been text book and the 'down time' has lasted for up to 10 mins. I have been there once when it happened and the dog was present (you could see by his eyes he looked scared), after the fit he was back to himself. He has had maybe a handful of fits in his life and he is turning 11 this year.

The breeder should run the test and let you know When ST has a litter I am helping with the temprament testing so I have been reading up on this stuff

I something like this might be helpful paptacular ( from http://www.volhard.com/pages/pat.php ) They have a scoring table on the website. Here are the ground rules for performing the test: • The testing is done in a location unfamiliar to the puppies. This does not mean they have to taken away from home. A 10-foot square area is perfectly adequate, such as a room in the house where the puppies have not been. • The puppies are tested one at a time. • There are no other dogs or people, except the scorer and the tester, in the testing area • The puppies do not know the tester. • The scorer is a disinterested third party and not the person interested in selling you a puppy. • The scorer is unobtrusive and positions him or herself so he or she can observe the puppies’ responses without having to move. • The puppies are tested before they are fed. • The puppies are tested when they are at their liveliest. • Do not try to test a puppy that is not feeling well. • Puppies should not be tested the day of or the day after being vaccinated. • Only the first response counts! Top Dog Tips: During the test, watch the puppy’s tail. It will make a difference in the scoring whether the tail is up or down. The tests are simple to perform and anyone with some common sense can do them. You can, however, elicit the help of someone who has tested puppies before and knows what they are doing. 1. Social attraction - the owner or caretaker of the puppies places it in the test area about four feet from the tester and then leaves the test area. The tester kneels down and coaxes the puppy to come to him or her by encouragingly and gently clapping hands and calling. The tester must coax the puppy in the opposite direction from where it entered the test area. Hint: Lean backward, sitting on your heels instead of leaning forward toward the puppy. Keep your hands close to your body encouraging the puppy to come to you instead of trying to reach for the puppy. 2. Following - the tester stands up and slowly walks away encouraging the puppy to follow. Hint: Make sure the puppy sees you walk away and get the puppy to focus on you by lightly clapping your hands and using verbal encouragement to get the puppy to follow you. Do not lean over the puppy. 3. Restraint - the tester crouches down and gently rolls the puppy on its back and holds it on its back for 30 seconds. Hint: Hold the puppy down without applying too much pressure. The object is not to keep it on its back but to test its response to being placed in that position. 4. Social Dominance - let the puppy stand up or sit and gently stroke it from the head to the back while you crouch beside it. See if it will lick your face, an indication of a forgiving nature. Continue stroking until you see a behavior you can score. Hint: When you crouch next to the puppy avoid leaning or hovering over the puppy. Have the puppy at your side with both of you facing in the same direction. Top Dog Tips: During testing maintain a positive, upbeat and friendly attitude toward the puppies. Try to get each puppy to interact with you to bring out the best in him or her. Make the test a pleasant experience for the puppy. 5. Elevation Dominance - the tester cradles the puppy with both hands, supporting the puppy under its chest and gently lifts it two feet off the ground and holds it there for 30 seconds. 6. Retrieving - the tester crouches beside the puppy and attracts its attention with a crumpled up piece of paper. When the puppy shows some interest, the tester throws the paper no more than four feet in front of the puppy encouraging it to retrieve the paper. 7. Touch Sensitivity - the tester locates the webbing of one the puppy’s front paws and presses it lightly between his index finger and thumb. The tester gradually increases pressure while counting to ten and stops when the puppy pulls away or shows signs of discomfort. 8. Sound Sensitivity - the puppy is placed in the center of the testing area and an assistant stationed at the perimeter makes a sharp noise, such as banging a metal spoon on the bottom of a metal pan. 9. Sight Sensitivity - the puppy is placed in the center of the testing area. The tester ties a string around a bath towel and jerks it across the floor, two feet away from the puppy. 10. Stability - an umbrella is opened about five feet from the puppy and gently placed on the ground.

For a dog to be really active and compete sound/balanced conformation is a good start. There are a few tenprament tests out there, I am sure poodlefan has links. I would say a combination of sound struture and mind will make a good pup.

Work is so not a better offer! Let's hope Strauss goes 3 for 3!

:D Hi everyone! Been catching up on WA news! Well done ososwift and bedazzaled And Bondi is looking good in the magazine boxagirl! I am so unmotivated to train at the moment, it seems every second day Toby is lame again and it's so hot But he has been spending a bit of time with my brothers partner's families two Schnazuers (one is a recent rescue and the other one is very dog unsocial) and been behaving very nicely with them ;) Back to Uni next week but I got my holiday leave approved so I will be going to the USA in November/December! :D It's a non-dog holiday but I am sure to find a way to some dog stuff

There is no such thing as a 'show breeder'. There are people who breed healthy, health tested, physically sound dogs to other similar dogs in an effort to improve the breed, maybe 1 or 2 pups in the litter have that special extra they are looking for, the rest will find lovely carefully screened homes with lifetime support from the breeder. A 'pet breeder' is someone who usually breeds in bulk, puts any two dogs together and sells the results for family pets. Just because you aren't going to show does not mean you deserve any lesser quality. Contact 'show breeders' because most of a 'show litter' goes to family homes and you are getting that extra quality.

Well we are going in winter and NYC will be snowy.... I will think about it Thanks for the feedback! I will have to see how well I can save though it may only be one lens.
-
Exciting!!!! Maybe I should hold off buying lenses a little longer although I expect that these new lenses wil be $$$$$$ Actually we can't use them RV. They're for micro, not standard four thirds. Sorry Having said that, I'd doubt they'd be any better than either the 12-60mm SWD or the 50-200mm SWD. Both are exceptional lenses & I've never seen their equal to date... And I am hoping to buy them both in the states Have you heard anything about the 25mm f/2.8 ED Zuiko Lens? I am considering getting it to go on my e420 so that when we are away (or even here) I can put it on the e420 and lend it to other people to take pics ect.

I love the 'evil' otters and penguins! Those shots came out really well.
