Biochem is much better than normal chem ;) Aren't you meant to be studying rather than lurking on DOL? Positive reinforcment! Whenever I get an answer right in my chem study I click onto DOL and treat myself with some reading.

Molecular Genetics was fun You have to love 14 hours of labwork a week for one subject We only have 3hrs thank god! Although when I do Cytology we have a 6 hour lab in one sitting! What year are you in? We had 9am-6pm one day and then 1-4pm the next or something like that in third year. 2nd year I think we had around 8 hours of labwork over 2 days. That was at UWA which apparently is more "theoretical" than the other Uni's I know when I went and did honours at Murdoch (coz I could deal with animals there rather than plants) I was suprised by how few lab hours their molecular biology/genetics classes did. I'm in second year but only part time I have 3 hrs lab for Genetics, 3hrs lab for Micro and 3hrs lab for chem... these get longer every year. Mim I hate chem too and still have 2 biochem units until I am done ;)

Nah Curtin I actually do enjoy molecular genetics and microbilogy. I am trying to study chemistry now ... we have to do an online quiz first and as you can see I am procrastinating.

RallyValley replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have Structre in Action which I really enjoyed and Dogsteps (DVD and also the book) which were great I find Dogsteps book is aimed more at showing, Structure in Action is more general and Dogsteps DVD is awesome for anyone! -
Champion Class- Should We Have A Seperate Class?
RallyValley replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have a look at agility Ch. you need a certain amount of 1st places in the competitive Masters (and maybe Open ?) classes. This title is almost akin to a Gr. Ch. in conformation in that you must win to get the title. In retrieveing you must win out of even the entry level class, all dogs must go through entry level so you are competing against very seasoned competitors dogs. However if you take on these sports and aim for these titles YOU are choosing to compete, you can't expect to win all the time, no matter what sport. Titles aren't supposed to be easy or what exactly do they prove other then that the owner has money to burn on entry fees? (I have heard of a dog in WA before my time in the show ring that was non awarded a few times and the owner gave up an neutered the dog after getting some advice). -
Well less then a month into 2011 and I am well into one of my goals! This morning me and my mum went for a bike ride with Toby, he was trotting between the two bikes and was more concerened about looking for birds and kangaroos then the bikes ;) He isn't 100% but is much closer, yesterday when we were at the park a bike also rode past and he didn't seem bothered by it although he definately noticed it ;) Need to start on skateboard phobia next.. We also have a tracking harness on the way so are at least taking a step in that direction too. Ok so we are at; -Toby is very good with bikes still but won't be doing ET as the long distance trotting on hard ground makes him a bit sore, so we have been advised only short rides by his vet/physio. -With his obedience we are heeling now And he is much happier to train around other dogs. -Tracking won't happen in 2011, I don't have enough time -Definately still learning and having fun -May be doing agility again Toby's soundness has come forward in leaps and bounds!

Yeah!! Even if you have to hear "great border collie!" a million times I was only telling LP just yesterday how beautifully her young tri-coloured Border Collie was working. Luckily she knows how much I enjoy stirring her up :p some people are just so rude!! hehe - All I have to do is spell Dalmation wrong and that would send you into a flying rage.... (maybe....) ;) Geez, you know how to push my buttons Although, according to a post I just read, a Springer looks just like a liver and white Border Collie ;) My bestie's mum is born in Dalmatia so I even get when I see Dalmation Congratulations again wuffles! I am starting to think my boy may be mentally stable enough for CCD and he is my first trialling dog. So seeing you do so well makes me happy Plus I will have him back in the agility ring within the next few months so I may have my first title in 2011 afterall (but not likely ).

Everybody lets take a vote ...... Do we consider these valid excuses for missing training????? OK you are forgiven - let me know when you are coming so I can bring cake to celebrate Soggy's CH title. PS - Good Luck for your tests :-) Next week I only have a Molecular Genetics test and no work so I will be there then ;)

The first one very much reminds me of one of our Dorper ewes, she used to act like that with Toby when she has lambs because she was protecting them, to me it does seem like the sheep is defending his terriroty rather then playing. If Icelandic sheep are similar to Dorpers they were quite a primative breed and more goat like in thier mannerisms as well as being a hair sheep. (This is the sheep in the background)

I won't be at training tonight! I have a chemistry test tomorrow and a Microbiology test Thursday and it's my week on at work so I am a bit streched for time.

Just reading Don't Shoot the Dog, although I was aware of clicker theory reading this has been a bit of a revalation and eye opener! Starting to see why some things I have trouble with happen and am really understanding the theory now. I would love to read Pat Hastings Structure in Action next - has anyone read it? If so how did they find it?
-
Hmmm that would well and truly stop me entering! Imagine having to go twice! Once to compete for breed then again for group specials!!! And people who have more then one gundog breed might have to go 3 or more days :D Goodbye entries!

Is mum prone to allergic reactions?

Yay Terranik!!! Ch titles are exhausting and I imagine a N.Ch even moreso! And huge congratulations Wuffles and Ava Such a nice score for a first trial and (I think) first trialling dog!

Week 11 This week was my 21st so to celebrate I studied and studied! (lol - damn uni!) Toby shared my excitement at this as you can see from my week 11 pic! (He is wearing a lab coat - I study molecular genetics so I am in one of these most days!) Week 12 Just a casual shot this week, he was hiding behind a tree while playing chase...

Are You Biased Against A Type Of Photography?
RallyValley replied to a topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I don't like nudes And photos thats are photoshopped so "creatively" I can't tell what the imge was of to start with... I really love seeing all the dog photos on here and to be honest it's all I really photograph... but I also realise my work is fairly bland so I would hate to see people think 'oh dog photos are so boring' based on my amatuer attempts! -
Hmmm seems quite unlikely? I don't think there are very many (if any) Hovawarts in Australia. There are 1000's of goldens, yellow labs and lab/goldie hybrids in Australia... that seems much more likely.

I am just trying to find the full text now through online journal access from uni. Seems like a very interesting article... however as only USA tollers were used in the test and they only were an AKC registered breed fairly recently and are in my understanding not too common there it could also be popular sire effect contributing... ETA- I can't get full text until I am on campus it seems, we only have the article available through the journal that you must be on campus to read.

Poor you! Also, I am in fear of the General Forum but I have to disagree with you about Puppy Toby. He was very, VERY cute Sorry to go offtopic naomi but... This is how Toby stopped.... (not recomended method ) (KTB I do think he looks cute here)
-
I have to admit I got so upset because I was studying for a Uni test and the puppy was my responsibility... and I felt like he would never sleep! I can't offer a solution though, the next week he broke his leg and I just had a sore sooky cuddly pup in a cast.
-
Toby was like this! I had holes in my pants/legs/shoes/hands his teeth were so sharp! He is of mixed origin like Elbie and now he is the sweetest dog with people and has very good bite inhibition! I remember at one stage crying the first few days as I was lying on the grass with Toby studying and he would come up - grab my hand- run off and bite a stick/sprinkler/bug/my older dog come flying back and bite me a few more times and then fly off again. He is now overly laid back! He won't get out of bed before 8.30am without glaring at you!

perth_girl.. you seem so keen to slam on this breeder and registered breeders as a whole and have publicily posted word for word thier email in a state so small in the breed this may have got back to the orginial breeder (and possibly others). I have emailed a breeder, not heard back, rung them and had a lovely lovely phone chat! I think you have maybe picked the wrong issue here, you make it sound like people go to BYB's because of lack of communicaton in your first post, you are now saying it was because they wanted a deposit (which is quite normal for some breeders and at the end of the day not that much money compared to the costs of raising a pup)... my issue would have been the papers but hey.. everyone has thier own priorities.

Which Breed Makes The Cutest Puppies?
RallyValley replied to Henrietta's topic in General Dog Discussion
Border Collie(ish) puppies are cute: And an ugly puppy (sorry Toby! ):
