  1. (Goes to check ) When you are in general dog discussion you click on the number of replies and it brings up a pop up box that ranks contributors. However now I have said that I can't seem to get it to work.
  2. What are you trying to say?! We give this place life (in all seriousness look at the post tally! )
  3. Jealous! I really enjoyed it last year. I will be back there when I have something to show again (If it doesn't clash with Uni )
  4. I wish I was. I am sick of studying Studied all night at work and now study all day, then tonight back to work and more study But after next week things ease off a bit so WA thread should return to it's former chatiness - generally as a rule - if me or RS are around chat goes on :D I seriously think I have the laziest dog in the world, he was in my parents bed all night, when I got home from work came into my bed until I woke up at 11am and is now on the floor sprawled out asleep and non responsive to all sound (except maybe if I got his Cuz out ).
  5. Yay LL Video is a must! I have entered Toby in his first CCD trial in June BUT... I am entered NFC and I am just going to do one exercise (either heelwork or recall) if he is not in a shut down mood and leave the ring and give him a massive reward (thinking Macca's soft serve with raw steak ). Maybe by next year wel will be ready to do all the exercises at once
  6. Do they really? Do you mean more types, or a higher incidence of disease? & could you post a source for it? I've never seen anything concrete. They mean the list of tests recommended by this website for labradoodles is higher then the list of tests for labs alone or poodles alone.
  7. My dog has been known to empty his anal glads at the terryfing sights of a kid on a scooter or skateboard, bikeriders (although that is better now) and my grandad! Heart of a lion Plus I know he wouldn't enjoy it, he would much rather be at home on a couch or bed.... this is the kind of dog that refuses to get out of bed to train or go for a walk without a bribe before 7am!
  8. I think poor Toby would be so frightened and overwhelmed going on a plane and through a big scary airport without me he would come out the other side totally insane! We will see how my next dog goes, let's hope shes not such a sook Although if I wasn't going to America this year I was going to travel interstate to watch some showing or Utility Gundog Tests
  9. 14th April Rubystar Maybe you need to think of it as a holiday with your kids. We have a lot of fun , usually end up clothes shopping and as I said the boys get on so well that it makes life very easy. We have a bit of a routine, share the cooking duties, although Bedazzled is a much better cook than I am - so I usually organise the dog treats. I drive, Debazzled navigates and it works really well. The difference this time will be ..........a third dog , so instead of hiring a 4WD we have had to go for a Van, we are on different flights, so hopefully everything will work out OK. Its something you should put on your todo list, its kind of addictive in a way, meeting new people, watching how others do things and if your dog does well - its the icing on the cake. If all else fails - there is always the nice cheese, the chocolate and the coldies in the fridge waiting for us when we get home As someone who has tagged along part of one of these weekends I have to say they are very fun I think going alone would be a little depressing though unless you knew people at the other end.
  10. Under what rules? - only the ANKC has published rules To achieve what qualification? - only the ANKC awards titles in obedience. If you are interested in achieving titles to national standard under a published set of rules, and under trained and accredited judges then right now only the ANKC offers that. Its all well and good to say there can be other options but it would be a huge effort to introduce a system that matched what the ANKC has to offer. Individual affiliates may run the trials but they are run and judged to an agreed and nationally consistent standard. The qualification I get in WA can count towards a dog's title in Qld. Most obedience trials here struggle to break even on a costs basis - there isn't even a financial incentive to create another scheme. Thanks PF thats what I was getting at Steve I did not mention agility, if I want to compete in Agility I can go to ADAA, however what if I though my Mini Foxie was the best at Obedience in the whole country, how else could I possibly test that theory in Australia? Also ANKC has the trained judges and they can be threatened with loss of thier licence of they come and judge my mini foxie obedience trial, so none come. What now? I am sort of backed in a corner and like you said now have to make up my mind if breeding or obedience is more important. What a dilemma! Not one I would have with an ANKC recognised breed.
  11. Yes but then if I live in one of the smaller states that does not have alternate dog sports groups and I decide I would love to do obedience trials with my mini Foxie brood bitch, well they are only offered by ANKC, so that means to be eligable to compete in those trials I must desex my mini Foxie in order to register it as an associate. (Hence why we now have a sporting register for some breeds - entire working BC's and Kelpies can compete). There is no registery in Australia that is close to what the ANKC offers in terms of variety of sports, not just everyone does conformation shows and agility(which is also offered by multiple external registres).
  12. Hmm might have to try sew some for Toby It's still hot in here and he is already lying all over me to keep warm!
  13. Don't forget the green and purple to go with that red and white.... A Freo supporter I have plenty of stuff those colours to dress Toby in :D
  14. Week 13: Toby was waiting up on the wall for my dad to get home. He is standing on the wall looking out on the road, he is such a smarty pants and always notices the car well before us! He is so excited because he gets to play fetch with dad as his nightly ritual.
  15. Shamefully, no. But thank-you. Clover could do everything if I wasn't such a lazy mum! She is titled in conformation and earthdog, and is on her way to being titled in tracking... Lazy sports like her lazy mum. Clover is same as ever, but now screams at me when she thinks I'm doing it wrong. Would love to see an updated video Yes only three sports, how lazy I love her work ethic, reminds me of a certain Toller I know.
  16. If you just got her this week (and since she is 8 weeks I would assume so) wouldn't that mean she got the parvo before she came to you since it has a two week incubation period? (Or did I make that up?) I really hope she pulls through, she sounds like she is lucky to have you.
  17. You can come over and practice squeezing anal glands CC, Toby needs his done Also Oso I just realised I forgot to type in earlier, sorry about your cat
  18. How adorable is Clover! And how smart!!! What is she like now? Surely titled in sports?
  19. You don't need AKC recognition to get ANKC recignition - we recognise Large Munsterlander's as a registered breed here, they are a FCI and KC(UK) registered breed but not an AKC registered breed. However the point people are making is that the country of orgin is the USA and until AKC or FCI accept a breed standard unless this woman wants to put in the hard yards and develop the breed here (just ask the Tenterfield Terrier people how easy it is to develop a recognised breed - not) the dogs will not likely get AKC papers in thier lifetime. I must do some more reasearch on the UKC - to me they seem to have some pretty out there idea's - such as splitting up breeds with two types into different breeds, ect.
  20. it is exciting isn't it, even if you get beat I LOVE shows where there are other Fauves. I LOVE having all the people on the side of the ring watching because there are so many of us for once. I LOVE being able to see the other Fauves in Australia, get my hands on them etc. I have to agree with this! My next breed has more dogs in the field then in the show ring in my state so when I get my dog I am hoping to be able to show one of the field dogs that at the same time (It has all the right paperwork, approval from the breeder, sold as a show prospect ect.). I am trying to recruit the competition Also like showdog has mentioned people from WA who can afford it do travel interstate to speacilties or Royals to get thier dog out against competition (which I hope to do and have done before).
  21. The first time I entred agility I used a showing form and I just sent of a NFC obedience entry on an Agility form. The secretary's probably see my name and start tearing hair! :D FHRP do you know if there will be an UG test again this year? I won't make it this year (unless I win lotto) but I would love to be there in 2012 or 2013 :p So exciting for you and Polo I am going to go watch some field trials this season and go along to some training days dogless to learn the ropes
  22. I would consider hiring you CC! Especially when I have a show pup again I have dreamweaver and gave website creation a go but sat there like
  23. You either think your dog is unworthy of CC's OR you think judges are unable to decide if your dog has merit to be worthy of the title champion enough to sign a certificate saying as much. Either way it's your loss. I personally think if 18 judges, who had to study the standard which dogs are judged against to become a judge, decide to sign a piece of paper saying my dog is worthy of becoming a Ch, it does mean something, it means 18 people went over my dog and found no disqualifying faults, temprament issues and my dog moves without major unsoundness. Showing is also a test of temprament in some ways, it means 18 people looked in my dog's mouth, touched it's testicles, 18 times it was in a crowded run waiting to go in for class in group or BIG and didn't show any aversive temprement issues. It means I was able to train my dog to be able to gait around the ring and stack up. My dog went out to shows that many times and had socialization expirences of being in crates in crowds ect... means a lot to me, much more then no title. However YOU are using your own thoughts about 6pt CC's to imply 100's of rare breeds out there or people who live away from the bigger shows and show at smaller local shows are unworthy of thier points or people in states that don't have many people showing.
  24. In my (limited) expirence I have to say that I have handled a rare breed, the only one of the breed on that day, to win a Puppy in Group over competition. And he has also won another Puppy in Group. I think this puppy is a stunning example of the breed and if he is campaigned enough he will one day win a BIG under a judge who truly knows the standard of the breed. However, being the only one in the ring week in and week out and then having a beautiful (not my dog so not being biased!) specimen get overlooked time and time again is disheartning and only stops rare breeds showing, especially when people crap on about 'cheap titles' these dogs have.Making the cycle of 6pts Ch's happen again. Having a champions class would only make this worse as 'rare breeds' tend to title quite young and would be stuck in Champions class and not have the options of Intermediate/OzBred/State Bred and Open.
