You don't actually need a clicker, you can use a word, the point of 'clicker training' is to bridge between the moment the dog does correct behaviour and when it gets the treat, so that if you are too slow to get the treat to the pup it knows it was being rewarded for what it did 5 secs ago, not what it is doing when it gets the treat. It also teaches the dog to think when you shape behaviours. Tug is not a training method btw, its a reward like food. You would be luring and using tug as a reward in obedience as well it sounds like.

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RallyValley replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yay Polo!!! Huge congratulations. Did his brace come across many birds? Apparently in WA they sometimes don't get one bird the whole trial :D Going to watch my first field trial in a couple of weeks. -
If you want to do any training with her or take her out in public places I would definately make eye contact a positive. It is much easier to have a dog that is paying attention to you and focused on you with eye contact. Have you asked her breeder for some advice? Being very mouthy sounds like a typical retriever pup behaviour. Have you tried as soon as the pup makes contact with teeth on skin stand up sliently, walk out the room and ignore the pup for a min, when you come back in the room play with your pup and lots of praise for not putting her mouth on your hands?

No insurance on the phone, hoping it's covered in car insurance. Do you have a video of Mason's round?
-
Thanks guys. At the end of the day it's just stuff and it can be replaced but knew if there was any leads on the dog books you guys would know. The sneaky thieves also text my friend a blank message, they do that to check if the phone is working, that happened at 1505 so I am sure when I get the bill I will have some calls made because I didn't get a chance to cancel the phone till after 1600. Mas it was in Dianella at Light St Reserve.

Car was broken into at Reactive Rover Class today... If anyone hears of a copy of Agility Right from the Start or The Focused Puppy going cheap let me know so I can give my colleges the intel. Also my mobile was stolen so the number that some of you have is no longer working. ;) (Before anyone says it they were in my glovebox and out of sight but they were obviously wanting to access my book bag in the foot well so they broke my window) My glasses were also stolen too so I am blind... Awesome to hear your news Ptolomy and Mas, so glad Scooter is looking better.

I think in working breeds sacrificing soundness for 'type' which can often be determined by show ring fashion is just as detrimental to the breeds as is breeding soley for soundness/ability but sacrificing type - this is why some breeds that have split show and working lines have show dogs that may look closer to the original design but never perform the job they were developed for through exaggeration of features (showier coats, shortening muzzles, altering the plains of the head, building dogs longer and lower) if you don't know the true purpose of a feature how would you know the way it effects the breed?!? The opposite is also true for working type where they have sound or dogs with ability but over time they tend to loose the classic look of the breed. I think if your only options were to choose between the totally unsound dog and a dog that lacked so much type you were questioning it's breed I would non award. I have seen a judge after a breed specialty of a split type gundog breed specialty take everyone aside after judging and tell them she could count on one hand the amount of dogs that she could take hunting with her, that the breed she was seeing that day had lost the ability to function which is the whole reason these breeds were created in the first place.

Argh no Eagle Point! Very unpretencious, a nice little shore, a few houses, a cafe and a swamp. -
I did some research for you Ptolomy (anything to avoid study atm ) This looks promising:

That poor lady and that poor traumatised man in the car, he will probably never forgive himself. Waits for anti-BSL people to come in and take thread off track and trivialise the fact a lady died.

South West Wa Trip (albany And Surrounds)
RallyValley replied to RallyValley's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I enjoyed my trip despite it being packed everywhere from all the tourists and getting soaked to my skin at the dawn service. Albany is such a nice town, but I think if I went again I would stay in Eagle Bay, it's so charming and not far from Albany at all. We had a great meal at Dog Rock Motel's resurant Lime to celebrate my dad's birthday... highly recommended -

I am undecied between two pics this week . Me and Toby went Easter Bunny hunting in the paddock nextdoor, we saw two bunnies that were much too quick for me to capture (and definately much too quick for slowpoke Toby ) but I got some very cute pics (even one of Toby on point) anyway I like these two but can't decide... opinions?
