Please Tell Me The Truth How Does Shelley Look
RallyValley replied to mumtoshelley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The way you are pulling her head up distorts the look of her front end and neck and makes it hard to see her natural earset and check for parallel planes ect. The tail should be held parallel to the body or not at all for a Goldie. Pulling the tail right up can also alter the shape of the stifle. -
Im sure thats fine I only did recalls ;) I am thinking of entering that one but am a bit worried about the distracting grounds now.

Which trial? ;)

Its half price. I just put CCD NFC in the class box.

What Do You Like About Obedience
RallyValley replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I now love both and at the moment have a dog that cannot do agility. We are having lots of fun with obedience, its the small things that keep it fun for me and its the way my dog thinks that its a game that keeps it fun for him. I love his stupid egar face when he races in for a recall and the sliding stop to front. I love the feeling of connection I feel with him when we have just pulled off a bit of focused heelwork. I think its the best feedback in the world when I ask Toby for heel position and he springs in and looks up at me waiting to see of he will get paid out now or what he has to do next. Anyone who has seen me train Toby knows I look like an idiot, we run around, jump around, do hand touches, get excited ect. To the OP watch some footage of Ptolomys Cider doing obedience,if you dont get a smile on your face and an urge to go out and do some training maybe obedience just isnt for you. -
Mirawee- Sorry to hear about Boots, hope he is feeling better soon! Boxagirl- How exciting! Hoping that it all works out this time. Finally, here are some pictures of Elli (my brothers Stafford) Playing zoomies Exhausted now!

Retrieving & Field Training Talk
RallyValley replied to RubyStar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes I am very excited that I will have someone to train for UG stuff as well as someone to train for retrieving stuff . It makes it sooooooooo much easier to motivate yourself! How exciting about Polo's sister! I am sure you will get there too :D It seems like a good system to get titled. Is field Ch. the only field title? The field people in WA have been happy to exchange emails and have mentioned they run training days when the weather is right so I will definately be relying on them! The book and DVD's are more for me to understand the general idea of it and the terminology ect. Yes I think on a long line may be the best course of action in the rabbit paddock until she has some of the field manners, that way if she does chase I can make sure I can call her back and if she does point I can have a dance and give her soooooooo much praise! -
Thanks Ness I can sort of imagine now how you felt when Kenz got her first pass! Especially because you had so much more to overcome then Toby :D Thanks Bedazzled
-
Well done Even though the score might not reflect it I am sure for you it's nice that he worked so well. Good luck with your other trials this weekend!
-
Toby gets Turkey legs and he isnt much bigger than Rosie (well maybe a little) but my point is I cant see why chicken legs wouldnt have been fine.
-
Well done again Ptolomy and Bedazzled!!! Also thanks to you guys (and RS) for your help today. I actually have a bit of a brag! Toby and I did the CCD NFC class today just to do the recall exercise although not perfect Toby had good focus, came in swift and sat at (a slightly crooked) front. However the brag part is that Toby is pretty close to what he was confidence and attitude wise before I had the issues in the pack at home. Its not been easy but boy am I relieved that his not scarred permanently . Have been on a high most the day.
-
Thanks Ptolomy! I am very proud, I also think I am hooked now. If someone had told me 6 months ago where Toby would be now I would have cried with relief.
-
Its confirmed im crazy on my lunch break (on night shift so aware its crazy o'clock) just spent 15 mins rehearsing the footwork for tomorrow. Omg I am already feeling nervous which probably means I will be over it before the trial
-
Just the recall. Its more a practice of being in a trial situation and handling nerves then any real CCD work. Popcorn chicken is Tobys highest value - he goes mad for it! So he will get a nice jackpot.
-
Toby is ready for tomorrow! Popcorn chicken purchased. Last minute practice was a really upbeat happy session - CCD NFC here I come!!! P.S WA DOLers I may be running late do if someone can get my numbers for me

Retrieving & Field Training Talk

FHRP - Didn't get to that field trial - had too much on at uni. But in mid July (when Zora is about 10 weeks) I will be going to an Open Utility Field Trial. Another DOLer is getting a UG pup around the same time and wants to field trial too so we will be training together. Congratulations Polo on his two Ch. Points! (How does it actually work with the Ch points? ) WA is a non shooting state too thank god! I am considering getting my gun license eventually however as I think I remember hearing that in some of the eastern states you require a gun license to compete? How did you go about field training to start with? Using books, DVD's, advice ect? I am getting a book later this week called Bird Dog - The Instinctive Training Method by Bill Williams and then later in the month going halves with a friend ordering the Huntsmith puppy DVD's. Next door to us is a huge paddock with many rabbits living there - I am scared I will do the wrong thing with my pup in the paddock, do I let her run around in there or always keep her on a tight lead when we go through incase she learns the wrong thing ect So many ways to mess up puppies! -
Mas she comes at the start of July. Tiggy my brothers stafford is very loved and a bit spoiled! She has settled in very well. As for behaving herself... She benchsurfs and has been known to catch the odd pigeon...
-
The Toller bits are near her brain too ;) I think she is too adorable as well. The weeks wont go fast enough!
-
I love to see people stop and give thier dog a pat/reward before they leave the ring regardless of thier placing. It would also be good sportsmanship if we can get through this thread without people starting to list what makes a bad exhibitor ;)
-
Congratulations Beans, Scoota and Ptolomy and RS, Ruby and Millie. Here is the little fatty Zora (possibly ). This is the front runner so far. ;)
-
Waiting for the rest of RS's news so Zora does not steal her thunder. ;)
