  1. Things just seem to keep getting worse Ness. It just does not seem fair. Fingers crossed for a resolution for Kenz.
  2. Pretty much - a bit bastardised though as the little bugger was too quick for a clicker She had an excellent front first and then it was front, sniff dumbbell, verbal marker, treat etc I train a very formal present which keeps the criteria clear and is great for obedience. Also quickly moved to lots of articles to generalize the retrieve....wood, metal, leather but you can use anything and everything in the house. ETA: I was training that separately to doing walking singles. So one building drive and the other building self control. Around what age was this?(Can you tell I have a pup ) We are doing play retrieves at the moment in the hall which I think is where you start with a baby (10 weeks atm).
  3. We will all beback at training at the start of August when she is 12 weeks and it's been two two weeks since her latest vaccination.
  4. Mainly a question for Spotted Devil - Did I remeber reading you trained Em to retrieve using the Shirley Chong dumbbell method?
  5. Finally started to get back into things with the dogs, it took me a little bit to adjust to having two again! Had a nice session from Toby just then practicing heelwork and I am having fun training the little one too.
  6. Just realised I put Zora's pic last week on Flickr but not here,
  7. Yup, but Kelpie people find it impossible to convince non-Kelpie people of this despite plenty of video and photographic evidence I was home yesterday, my dogs spent the whole day snoozing. They could and would easily run 80km but their favourite thing is to be with their humans. In my house it's the feral Brittany pup you have to watch for ;) She goes non stop Toby just wants to sleep in.
  8. Just want to say I have a kelpie x here but his off switch is great ;) If I am in bed sick for a week he is happy to sleep all day, if I decide to go for all day long hikes 3 days in a row he is up for that to. I think other Kelpie people often find the same with thier well bred Kelpies.
  9. Well done rubyroo and Mollipop! Sounds like Molly is on track to make a full recovery too
  10. Also google Color dilution alopecia and do some reading before considering breeding two dilutes. It's not bettering the breed if the progeny is hairless with skin infections.
  11. That makes sense FHRP Yes both dogs had to both stay and retrieve. Plus of course the judge was watching in the field when the dogs were shot over on point the reaction of the other dog too.
  12. They were done on small birds - I think quail? Definately not pigeon because one of the people who failed but needed to do a retrieve so a passing dog would have a retrieve to show thier stay skills asked to use a pigeon and one was taken out specifically. I take it the point of the land retrieve is so prove the bracemate is steady to shot and retrieve when his handler is not close up. And that the dog can retrieve in the field that it worked on and not go off hunting, mouth the bird, find the bird ect.
  13. It was an Open trial and there were two retrieves, a land retrieve and a water retrieve. I don't know the technical terms for retrieving. The land retrieve was one dog getting the bird and the other dog had to sit there about 5 meters from the retrieving and stay still with his handler 3 or so meters away. The water retrieve just seemed like a normal retrieve but was a bit harder, the bird landed in cover over the other side of the river.
  14. OMG FHRP field trialling is awesome! I had a blast today seeing the dogs do thier thing and the atmosphere was great. I took my camera and have about 100 pics of a Brittany I was smitten with who came 2nd, 1st and 3rd went to nice GSPs!! There was only 7 dogs in, 3 Britts and 4 GSP's - two of the GSPs were older dogs and I wanted to steal them :D There was not too many birds around but enough that almost all the dogs had a chance to fill the card. In WA we fire over the dogs but the trials are 'non shooting' events and we are unable to fire live shot. (Which I don't mind since I am a bit pathetic - I am ok once they are already dead!) The pups had a chance to hear gunfire from a distance too! I kept leaving my camera in the car so the shots are a bit pathetic. http://www.flickr.com/photos/46087317@N04/sets/72157627206707160/
  15. Congratulations CC!! Well today ST and I took the bitches to a field trial. We all (ST, the puppies and I) had a blast Here are some double dose puppy pictures :D
  16. I might know the song if I heard it. But I usually listen to music in Slav or Greek so...
  17. Well I know who Dolly Parton is but no idea who Foo Fighters are But congratulations anyway :D
  18. Yes but surely you don't think one visit with the pups a few hours long will reveal more to you about the pups temprament then the breeder learns in 8 weeks? I am sure if you let the breeder know the sort of things you are looking for in a pup and that will make the pup suitable you will have a greater chance of getting a good fit as they will be able to observe over weeks instead of hours.
  19. I had a go at this today! (At least I think this is the right thing)
  20. The breeder should still be able to assist you with your choice. The demon of the litter isn't necessarily the pup I'd want in every breed but I'd be happy with that in a Lab. I have a sneaking suspicion my pup was the demon of the litter But she has lots of confidence and a massive play drive to go with being so naughty...
  21. OMG! You poor thing. Sending you my best wishes to get through this hard time. RIP Cindy
  22. Sorry to hear that CareyJ But I am sure your little pup will be worth the wait when you eventually get her! :D OoOoOo... news?
  23. Does she do the sound effects too? Zora is such a noisy thing when she plays and thats what mum has been calling her.
