  1. AP- I have a feeling I am going to have a similar evolution. Although I have not competed as extensively with Toby (and now he is retired) he was a stay by my side type dog. I have a feeling the up and comer is going to be much speedier and more independent!
  2. If RS does not want it second dibs for Zora! Toby has a red one the exact same and I like the width and length. Hmmm my dogs have a dog cabinet (ST's OH had a laugh when I was telling them how I invented that) as well as the back of my car (where my gazebo, 2 crates and tarps are kept)
  3. I really want to get Zora a nice collar and lead set But I am going to wait till she has finished growing or buy something special in America.
  4. Good point I'm going to vote to swap ovals!! On second thought, no, I don't like the magpies that loiter up there In all honesty the states last year that was on the top oval was awful! It seemed so cramped and it wasn't very roomy. Nationals on the bottom oval was awesome though!
  5. The American Kennel Club changed its rules last year (or the year before) to finally allow mixed breeds to compete... so I am not sure why ANKC would revert back to that when so much of what we do is influenced by the UK KC and the AKC.
  6. Troublemaker I think the trouble maker is me Sorry guys! I am sure Mirawee, ST and anyone else who enjoys showing and does sports feels the same sometimes.
  7. I know, I've got my pitchfork and torch ready to fight those show people!! (PS quite obviously a joke ) ( I know your joking! Me too.) It's lucky your non show dogs pass for purebreds so you can raise your pitchfork to cast your vote ;)
  8. I wouldn't ask about the CAWA AGM... it looks like that is going to be very interesting ;)
  9. Yes so how sad does that make it Our show oval is like a golf green. Do you have to go all around for agility and obedience then Ness? That sucks... It's comforting trialling in the same place almost every time.
  10. Back from walking the dogs. ;) I agree the bottom oval is a disgrace and there needs to be a toilet block there. I don't think blaming dog show people is the solution as it is actually the Dogs West committee which any full member can join whose fault it is. The bottom oval at K9 however is good compared to many other grounds... having visited Dogs SA I would say our bottom oval (bar the flooding) is just as nice as their main area. I would love to see the sports people try to get the showing people onside, joining sports ect instead of always blaming them, jokes are fine but it sometimes gets a bit bitchy towards the showing community. I have NEVER heard a showing person bitch about the dog sports people ever but I have lost count of the number of times I have heard the problems of the Dogs West Committee blamed on people who show their dogs, not on the committee itself. Also Mas there is no way they would stop associates competing it would be awful publicity and loss of revenue. Plus imagine the fuss it would cause!
  11. Mirawee apparently show people don't deserve the top oval because agility people pay more levies.... as in one lot of levies for every class entered. Whereas evil show people only enter one class usually so only pay one levy per dog... it is irrelevant that shows usually have 500+ entries and people usually enter multiple dogs. ;) Plus apparently it's unfair that Associate members don't get to vote and they have to desex their dogs...."When they pay the same!" I couldn't help myself, I piped up 'no they don't!' (which I looked last night Associate membership $56 Full membership $80) However lots of people told me I'm wrong and that can't be true.... They are also desperate for committee members.... last night confirmed sports club committees are no place for me.
  12. Just the usual bashing of show people that happens in sports clubs...
  13. I really enjoy agility but also wanted a dog that I could show, do gundog work with and had a sound mind and body. I also wanted a medium sized dog. I ended up with a Brittany after listening to advice from people here and in life. My girl is 15 or 16 weeks (bad owner not knowing!) and I couldn't be happier, she is social, confidant, loves to tug and very food focused. Will she ever be a top tier agility or obedience dog? Maybe not... will I have lots of fun and enjoy her... definitely, I already am! ETA - I am sure she will be limited by my skill, not her potential... just wanted to make that clear Here is a beatiful MACH2 Brittany video, it's in spoilers so not to clog up the thread!
  14. My phone took a swim in the bottom oval at K9 last night Fingers crossed it pulls through! Toby picked up a dumbbell at training too! I was pretty happy because he won't put things in his mouth (even food sometimes!) if he is stressed.
  15. He is just adorable! Can't wait to meet him at some shows coming up! Him and Zora can have a play date
  16. I am 99% it's true but people break the rule all the time. It's very hard to prove a pups age so as long as she is '12 weeks' ;) you will be fine!
  17. Just had an amazing find!!! Was looking for Zora's feet scissors and I came across an old small check chain... anyway I got it at the local produce when they were closing down for 50c... I just had a closer look and it has a Herm Sprenger stamp on the end of it and it fits Zora! Just got myself a show collar Love when stuff like that happens!
  18. It's against K9 rules to take dogs younger then 12 weeks on the grounds to make sure if anyone asks you let them know she is 12 weeks ;)
  19. This is what I did: -enrol in a puppy school on private property for dog socialization -have puppy playdates with other puppies -walk Zora on on rarely used bush reserve/private property & a new housing development nearby -once she was 13 weeks (after a vacc at 10 weeks) we were down at K9 meeting dogs/experiencing crowds ect. -now it's been almost 2 weeks since her last vacc we have started going to cafe's, schools, busier places ect. I have taken a bit of risk but I have been smart about it. My suburb has a low incidence of parvo and nearby areas have a higher incidence so she has only just started to venture out of the suburb. However I started ahead, Zora came to me well socialised, friendly and confidant, as I am sure your Lab puppy will. ;)
  20. Poor Indy Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.
  21. Wow I love these! They look like they belong in a book. You have captured the feeling
  22. Yeah if I try to train tonight my rally signs will end up at your parents I think RS! Awful weather
