  1. No problem FHRP, I only know about Utility Gundog Field Trials ;) I guess I am lucky as Zora will stop and point at the wild bunnies that live here, but she has also been known to give chase if they run past her or even once has caught one and just gently held it until my mum lifted her off it.
  2. CCD and Novice - Michelle with her Aussie Bugs Open - Cider UD and UDX - Scoota Way to go Sandi! What an awesome comeback for Moo.
  3. I'm still waiting to hear who won all the classes at the Challenge too? ;)
  4. Zora is training for Utility Gundog Field Trials, only dogs that are bred to hunt, point and retrieve can compete. So that's like Vizlas, GSPs, Brittanys or Weimeraners. The dogs must find the birds in a big paddock, stop still and point at them, wait still until the hunter tells then to flush the bird then flush the bird and sit still when the blank shot is fired over them. They work in pairs and when the other dog points your dog has to honor that point and stop still. If it runs up and steals the other dogs bird you are disqualified. You then have to do two retrieves, one on land and one in water at the end. Your dog is scored in its performance and any dog that does not point, back and complete the retrieves does not pass. You must win or place second in a trial against at least 5 other dogs to gain points to become eligible for field titles. To me Retrieving is not testing the versatility of my dog, just one task it can do. Field training is very time consuming, to train for retrieving trials as well would mean giving up agility or obedience...
  5. My dog has been doing agility classes since she was 12 weeks and has never been over 1 jump, a huge portion of agility is not jumping or obstacles but obedience and handling skills that can be learned on the flat.
  6. Thanks SSM and Lowenheart. Yes that is what I meant. :)
  7. I have shown Zora on Day 3 pulled her around Day 8 and 14 and shown her 2 or 3 days post season. :) I would show a dog coming in, just in or going out but not standing.
  8. TSD - no retrieving trials for us, just field trialling one day. :)
  9. Thanks guys :) Im not talking about different standards just minor type differences that are within standard. Bug I think you have it the wrong way around - Australia uses country of origin now and UK Kennel Club writes their own standards.
  10. Had anyone here been to a breed lecture where different kinds of breed type (i.e American style dogs v English dogs in several breeds) is discussed? I mean the judges education ones. Just curious as to what can/can't be discussed.
  11. Agility was so terrier less last night... Though there is an adorable greyhound in Zoras class who is so cute!! Especially when he gets excited and does a zoom! But so reliable off leash too. I love agility and realized how much I missed it last night. Zora has been following me around since as if to say 'more please' she had fun doing her sequences, playing with her toys and with all the other puppies.
  12. Wasn't having a go at anyone, just not agreeing all the time either ;) I am very excited about the Classic! Looking forward to seeing how Lulu and Strauss go under breed specialists!!
  13. Yes I would too live too see a Winner of Winners at the Classic and for them to get a massive prize haul :) Is there any way they could do that for agility? Like Highest Masters Dog Overall?
  14. Like :) What I was trying to say, only your much more eloquent.
  15. Why wouldn't they get the better Arena when they have far more entries and raise way more money?!? It is a dog showing association that added sports later. As for prizes that's because a show person organized awesome sponsors as a volunteer - it's nothing given to them, just the work of one lady. Last year there were no prizes! I'm sure if the sports people wanted to they could organize awesome prizes too, I seen to remember last years obedience challenge had a pretty good haul.
  16. Just as a figure there are over 1000 dogs entered in the show, each paid an entry fee around $15. A show lady organized all these sponsors to donate prizes - she also organized prizes for the sports. Dogs West did not pay for these and Dogs West did not organize this. You know show people never complain about dog sport people and I really wish that worked both ways... Yes sports people work hard to train their dog but being the best dog out of 1000+ dogs is VERY hard to achieve... Just saying ;)
  17. Yes the Committee has done an awesome job (except the letter thing). No training for me tonight, figure I am driving down to the k9 grounds enough times this week but I will be back to agility tomorrow
  18. Well done TSD!!! Em sounds like she is doing brilliantly! We went out in the field Saturday morning, I am seeing improvement for sure, she managed to do a true point on a button quail - I walked up to her and she was steady till I told her to flush it which I am pretty happy with. She is getting more aware of the concept of backing, is constantly looking for quail while in the field and when she does flush one will stop when I tell her to. :) It's a nice beginning, looking forward to doing more training with her and watching her progress. Her retrieves have also come forward a lot! She is much more reliable with her returns to hand and is getting comfortable with increased distances and cover.
  19. No show for me - finish work at 7, show starts at 7.30
  20. Clean Run have some on free shipping, I just ordered 2 as my dogs are fine for me to walk but sometimes my mum takes them both and they don't behave as well for her...
  21. Loraine just sent you a PM with contact details for the Wei Club rescue, she has read the thread but isn't a member here and is hoping to hear from you and/or your son.
