  2. no they said the dog snapped, hardly a DA dog. More likely a person they don't like that they are trying to cause problems for. Snapping is hardly appropriate behaviour for a Lab IMO....
  3. It's also a great day out with friends who share your passion for dogs. It simply comes down to who you choose to associate with There are toxic types whenever there is competition. Whether you decide to let them colour your experience of the show ring is up to you. All I can say is don't knock it till you've tried it. I wasn't meaning to "knock it". Of course it can be a great day out. Just saying that it doesn't interest me due to some of the things I've heard from people who are involved. I've witnessed more bitchiness at other sports then I ever have at showing LisaCC these people think they are doing you a favour. I know that if there was a dog I had seen being aggressive at shows and one of my friends wanted a dog in that breed I would discretely warn them. They may have gone about it the wrong way but I actually think they may have done you a kindness - I know I wouldn't have the guts to tell a stranger something like that. Imagine if they had said nothing at all and you ended up with a pup with DA issues and then later found out 'everyone' knew the dam was DA? Wouldn't you feel more put out then a warning beforehand?
  4. I ordered a fair amount of Other Cuz the first day, those have been shipped, my other order says shipped but no email, so I'm assuming not. Most of the stuff I ordered is boredom prevention type toys for when I move out next year, so no rush for those!
  5. Can't they swap them  Oh well, don't think my family would be too impressed to be dragged along to dog things anyway!
  6. I will be going to Tassie for the second time, the first time I was 14. I LOVED Launceston and remember how beautiful Cradle Mountain was. We drove up to Storeys Creek since my dad grew up there and I got SOOOOOO car sick on the road there and back, plus went to the mankiest, grossest public toilet in the world. We visited Bicheno and saw penguins! Plus went to Hobart and Port Arthur. I don't remember much of Hobart except being in the Hotel room and seeing some naughty child in a car take off a handbrake and have the car roll down the hill and into a building  Port Arthur was amazing but there was a few awkward moments since Mum and Dad didn't tell us about the awful recent events and my brother and I said some things like 'Mum why is there a burn out cottage' and 'Mum why would they have a picture up of two little girls' I'm looking forward to taking some pictures there though Would like to hear about the agility stuff going on Tassie :D
  7. Working Irish aren't all that bad  Is that one from France? Here is one that is an absolutely fantastic working dog that stills looks like a proper Irish Setter (well to me - she has won multiple Pointer and Setter Trials)
  8. This bit puts it perfectly! It's a bit easier for dogs whose original function were to work with people though! :)vThere are some breeds that do it all and haven't compromised, when I chose a breed that was one thing I required - a breed that was not split so I would never have this dilemma! I think structure and function do go hand in hand - here are some Brittanys from 78 years ago - http://www.epagneulbretonclub.nl/wilson-fr.htm -they could be dogs from today! There are no exaggerations! I think it's important to remember the concept of showing is just to judge physical structure and that if you want to test the working ability of a gundog you do need to work it!
  9. When in March Amy? I will be there from around the 18th to 23rd for a family holiday. :)
  10. I'm so glad Toby adores other Cuz which aren't as popular
  11. It's the wrong colour for a Small Munsterlander and if it's a Large Munsterlander it has dwarfism
  12. Ok here goes my one, a fascinating breed :) It's a Pachón Navarro, or Spanish Pointer. More info and picture source at link. http://pointingdogblog.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/breed-of-week-pachon-navarro.html
  13. Also remember that having an entire bitch you will have at least 6 weeks a year she is in season and can't trial. These will inevitably fall on the events you want to complete in most of all. Then some bitches will be out of whack before or after or before and after their season and won't perform as well as usual.
  14. Read 'Structure in Action' by Pat Hastings. There is more to good working ability then mental ability - a dog that breaks down at a young age from poor structure will never be a good agility dog.
  15. Massive congrats again to Deb and everyone else at the WA States who did so well. Congrats Tassi - it's so inspiring that Kirra is still going at an 'advanced' age :D Kathq - Well done! After watching a UD round last night I just admire anyone who can get a pass - it's such a long involved class with so many tricky things to fail on. Well done!! And I also have a brag from the states! Last night I had my two in Novice Rally. Toby got over his anxiety (mostly :) ) to do a very nice round with a score of 88. Zora also did a great round in the rain and came out with a score of 84 including a 10 point deduction for me fail to pause properly at the Halt - Fast Forward from Sit ! I am so happy with my two! Massive thanks to Ptolomy, Bedazzled and RS for all their help along the way
  16. Lol read this as two Britts=Brittanys I was like why on earth would Brittanys be sent to a sheep dog trainer!!! Ha ha. Did you watch it RV? It is a bit like our own private little thread here, would make no sense if not watching the show  It's on in two hours here :) Planning to watch it then.

  18. Hmmm if it was IBD would Toby have diarrhea and/or vomiting quite often? His stools are fine and he has only vomited twice in the last few months (both in the last fortnight), despite being fed the same diet for several months.. It's not really that often. We suspect that the bowl might have clanged if he knocked it over with his paw by mistake, or something like that, since Toby is frightened of loud noises. He seems to be mostly over it now though... I've been in touch with my vet to let her know about the second episode, waiting to hear back, as she did say bloods were the next step. Liver issues were my first thought too VAN is soaked overnight (as per instructions). I have tried kangaroo before but he won't touch it.
  19. Pers he does eat very fast so it's possible some goes down the wrong way and he gets cramps that hurts him. I will look into that kibble may hurt him, the strange thing is it's very inconsistent, at times he will refuse a meal (he has done this with meat and with kibble) and others he will eat like he's starving. JulesP I also thought liver but at over 3 is he a bit old to start showing symptoms now?
  20. Thanks Weasels. :) He's still acting his normal self but I would hate to be overlooking something.
  21. I like Pet Plan - they are VERY slow but there coverage is far better then anyone else and that don't have a ridiculous list of exclusions like most. They paid out for a puppy tooth removal where Medibank refused to pay for an emergency surgery after my Kelpie ran into a post and had teeth shards through his gums because it was 'dental' - they even had the gall to say "well if he has broken his jaw we would have paid"... So yes rather get money eventually then have incomplete coverage and get nothing!
