  1. If I just had the boys I would take her as boys can always do with being whipped into shape but I think Lilly would kill her
  2. I probably am. Is that Midland or the B&A one? Cause on of those days I think I am toller handling too
  3. Exactly, as well, the dog should not stop before dropping. The ideal moving down has the dog IN MOTION slide to the drop position. Deductions occur for anything less than that. Well yes, just like formal obedience I have no idea about this other exercise you guys are talking about, perhaps I should read the rules and be training I assume this is a station we didn't cover in the seminar? We did RS. Maybe you need to brush up on your novice stations Which station is this? You guys are talking about walking backwards, and I don't recall us doing that in any of the courses we ran! I thoought you meant the moving down. The backwards with dog at frint is novice, backward with dog at side is advanced.
  4. it's easier to keep dogs dual purpose in a (realitively) small breed though. This is probably where Tollers and Chessies have an advantage. I am fairly certain that curly coats and flat coats are supposed to be dual purpose too. Advantage over what? Being able to nip it in the bud when people go off making thier own little divisons and breeding away from the orginal standard. It's easier to police someone who is doig the wrong thing when you have about 5,000 dogs compared to the probably 5,000,000 labs out there.
  5. Hmm will have to browse ebay or classifieds, they are a little out of my price range.

  8. I agree 100% I would find it very hard to own a dog that was not dual purpose, it saves a lot of debate. Labs can be dual purpose, but you can always still tell the differences between show and true working dogs.... such a shame, though. I like a Lab that is a mix between the two if that makes any sense Kadnook used to breed dual purpose dogs, look on Blackboys website at Kadnook He's a Huntzman, he is the spitting image of Bronson and did well in the show ring but was from very field lines.

  10. sorry which number ? sorry you are on 26 not 49 oops sorry. the rules don't say which return just that after the return the dog moves forward and doesn't sit...so I would do left but both are correct according to the rules Thanks Rusky, to me left made sense but I wasn't sure if there was a written rule somewhere. is there any chance at all you could make Wednesday mornings ? We had a great time this Wednesday Jill Houston set up a very interesting and challenging course which I bombed out on but it was great fun. Also why don't you hang around for a bit on Mondays ? we set up around 8.15 as soon as a trainer is free ( and the ground is quieter) on the main arena. The newbies are enjoying the experience and it is fantastic to see them really kick in with lure, reward, encouragement or whatever to get around the course. I train till just before 9 so I shouldn't be watching but can't help myself I work Monday to Friday and usually start work at 8 or 9 (depending which shift I am on) so as much as I would love to come Wednesdays I really can't. When I have Lincoln back I will try to stay for the main class but Toby can be reactive and large crowds can make him anxious so we wouldn't work very well I'm afraid.
  11. Lol I wouldn't get a dog I couldn't show :laugh:Plus they aren't as cute as show ones. James and Spartan
  12. I am such a loser for picking out names way in advance, for me it helps build the excitement. Lincoln was pretty close to ending up a Knox or a Theodore which I don't think would suit him at all! I already have a name on the back of my head I would like for my next dog and a fair idea of what I would call kids should I ever have one . When I was a little kid I always wanted a white girl retriever called Jo. Maybe one day... (except now I know it would have to be an Ash Chessie, really light gold Goldie or really lightyellow lab)
  13. Aww Ptolomy how scary! Fingers crossed for you Lexi can't get out anymore. On another note does anyone want a new dog? Free to good home a 14 year old girl called Lilly, she has the awesome habit of using her bucket cone to poke peoples legs and make doors slam on you or your fingers and superpowers to avoid swallowing tablets, since she is missing a few teeth, has a crafy mind and nimble tounge she is an expert at quickly removing the food around a tablet, spitting the tablet out the side between her teeth and swallowing the food leading you to think that she swalloed the tablet only to spot it rattaling around in her cone. And don't even try the old fashioned way of opening the mouth wide and sticking down the back of the throat or you will lose fingers in the scuffle. What an exciting dog, she only needs 2 tablets twice a day so the excitement is limited, but for futher excitement you can break the tablet into small pieces which is just as ineffective.
  14. Not if I went another Lab... If you went another lab would you go for show of field lines? To be honest, not sure... but regardless, it won't ever enter the show ring, it will be trained for retrieving. Edit: I would probably approach Ruby's breeder for another Lab if I ended up getting another one Ok. I can see you with a little black lab to round out the trio
  15. Ok I can't help myself I am so glad I get ES cuddles every week, I am becoming quite a fan.

  17. Woohoo! I've found myself a handler should I ever get an Aussie that I can show Or an ES You would have more luck with a group 3 dog (A big hint cause I want some ES puppy cuddles :D ).
  18. It was cancelled anyway :D . I wonder when the Rally classes are going to start? Probably never. That's not the right attitude Thats why I do my own Rally stuff on Mondays :D

  20. How exciting GR! Retriever puppy cuddles!
  21. Awwww puppies are so cute! Any plans as an obidiene/agility dog for him? or a show dog?
  22. I'm thinking I will probably wuss out of training tonight and curl up under my doona near the fire with Toby on my feet.
  23. Since my bestie is in Europe and I am going to start taking his Lab Bronson to training on Mondays so he gets an outing every week. He is 10 coming 11 in November but you would never be able to tell .
