Allergy Treatment - The Next Step

There is a huge wattle tree next door (and Toby often goes next door to play) and there are pine trees nearby (like within walking distance but not on our property) I will visit the vet during the week and get the referral to the specialist. I have also found this place: http://www.petcustomdiets.com.au/index.html that make prepackaged elimination diets and will work with vets and you to slowly add into the diet. AND it is stocked at my local better pets and gardens I am testing a new meat to see if Toby will eat it tomorrow. If he will I will be starting elimination diet again. -
Yay Rottsup!!

Shouldn't he be in puppy? My friend has his sister and shes over 9 months... Probably then -
Lincoln was shown in Vic this weekend and on Saturday he got RUBOB but was apparently a bit cheeky and on Sunday he got Reserve Dog and was an angel . So now if/when Lincoln gets his Ch. title I know that he at least beat another dog in the ring. ;)

Only is these are proteins he's never eaten before. You mentioned he gets fish oil so that pretty much rules out fish. What about roo? Alpha Kerri Oil is great - lots of dermatologists recommend it as it helps to create a bit of a skin barrier, reducing the amounts of antigens absorbed. We did roo last time does that rule it out this time? -
From another perspective, when people see the prefix of your dog if the breeder is very infamous they may automatically think you condone this person crossbreeding or worse! You may face snobbery from the prefix alone. I show a Chessie, I have had three people make snide remarks to me about my "labs" coat which is apparently incorrect. Some people feel a need to give an opinion about your dog at dogs shows, so as long as your daughter is prepared for the possible negative comments go ahead, I don't think people should show dogs if they don't have a thick skin.

Yay go Marlo!! I have a soft spot for wei's because I hang out with SparkyTansy and co at shows Huge congrats on your title :D Thanks valleycbr - we are stoked and can't wait to do the urban tracks at night. Your keeping good company with ST and Co. Goodluck! I will most likely be pursuing tracking next year with my Chessie.

Thanks for the replies Stormie and Ashka. Would turkey or fish be ok for elimination diet? Ashka the tip about oil after Malaseb sounds helpful. His coat is actually quite shiny and not falling out at all, I bathe him once a fortnight but I should probably up that. -

Thanks for getting back so quickly Stormie. I feel so badly for the poor mite and he will be going to the vets sometime this week or next to rule out any other possible cause. Then the immunologist is the next step I guess. -
I have been kind of neglecting Toby this week because I have been preoccupied with Lilly ( :D )but I noticed today that his feet are basically stripped of hair and bright red and his whole body is kind of dandruffy. Toby gets antihistamines every day as well as fish oil. He hasn't had any recent diet changes (Nutro with raw meat and or bones) except that yesterday mum gave him milk! Anyway I have a few questions regarding allergies; 1. Do allergies get worse with age? 2. Can you wash a dog in Malaseb too often? 3. What is the next step in pursuing treatment? Also until I noticed this dandruff his allergies have really been only on his feet and tummy. An elimination diet and adding in foods that we did last year had no effect for the better or worse. So I just assumed it was a contact allergy, but obviously this all over flaking and itching is the result of a food allergy right?

Thanks for being so great everyone. Lilly went very peacefully and was brought home buried next to Jack.

Any gundog results? Anyone who is there keep an eye out for the minor puppy dog Chessie, it's my Lincoln -
Hi all. I have a mixed message sombre/happy post tonight. We are having Lilly pts tomorrow she is just not comfortable or mobile and has very little/no quality of life. It's been a long time coming and I just wanted to thank everyone for thier support the last couple of months. :D It seemed to us that every year beyond 10 was a gift as she died on the operating table then and they were able to bring her back. I feel guilty but at the same time I am excited about seeing Lincoln next week and going to Adelaide.

I must pack for Adelaide! I am arriving in SA Thursday

Wow, that's one old dog ... Yes a 100 year old still fertile dog, its a world record :D . Seriously though thats what gets to me about these dogs. Chessies have been in development since the 1800's and have had a unified starndard since the early 1900's and some idiots who want a "non shedding labrador" think they can make a breed. Get a poodle if you want a non shedding dog, get a lab if you want a lab. Not that I am for the Labradoodle, but they are probably trying to achieve what the Chesapeake people back in the 1800's and everyone else did to standardise their new breed. In 100 or so years time this "breed" (or any others, my argument isn't soley based on Labradoodles) could well be ANKC recognised as they have managed to standardise it, and will be in the same position as Chessie people and could well be using the same argument as you are. I just hate close mindedness to new breeds as all breeds evolved somewhere along the line. As long as it is done right, why not. But I do hate that the DD is cashing in on what could be a standardised new breed. Agree with whoever said to ditch the name though and come up with a new one if they ever want a chance to be taken seriously as a new standalone breed! Hmm I don't see any similarity at all. Chessie people were breeding dogs that were sound and with good retrieving ability and stamina to dogs with similar apperance and ability to create the ultimate retrieveing dog for the conditions of the Chesapeake bay. This is why the breed was developed, for a purpose, not for $$ or fashion. If they found a labrador poodle cross had magic cancer detection abilities and they selected for that as well as appearacnce/breeding to standard ect I would be all for it. But at the moment it seems like all they are doing is robbing the labrador and poodle gene pools for a quick buck. As I said, my argument isn't necessarily about the Labradoodle and I am in no way condoning breeding crossbreeds for profit and pet market. But any "breed" that is bred for a purpose and is breeding against a standard they are working towards, keeping registries, etc. should not automatically be condemned just because they aren't ANKC recognised as yet. All breeds started somewhere. Just saying Maybe this just hits a sore sport for me because people would sooner believe a labradoodle is a real breed and a Chesapeake Bay retriever is something I made up. And love to tell me I have the former and I am delusional about the latter. :D Iguess I see your point and if someone was developing a new breed for a function and following the same code of ethics I expect good pure breed dog breeders to follow it probably wouldn't be an issue. ETA I very much admire coolies and working register BC's and would have one in a heart beat if I thought I could handle it and they aren't ANKC
