If You Had Your Obedience Dog Again
RallyValley replied to RallyValley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lincoln has a lot of drive and focus naturally and it's pretty much all he has had done up to this point (9 months). He will work happily for praise or toys and get super hyped working for food. So it's getting the obidience stuff down pat that I am thinking of now. Just an example of his focus- walking from the far end of the dog pavillion to outside the ring at the Adelaide royal I was able to have him close by my side looking at me from verbal encouragement alone there were 100's of people in the pavillion and dogs walking everywhere. So I am pretty pleased with where he is at and looking to move on to the next step. -
Are you implying you want/expect to make money out of this proposed venture...it sure reads that way! So what if I make a bit of money as long as I breed quality dogs and do my best to improve the breed as a whole. I have bred working German Sheppard dogs in the past and yes I may have made money off the pups (maybe not in the long run)but it was done for the joy of breeding not for money I am aware of the costs of breeding and if i make some coin good luck to me if I don't well I'm still enjoying myself by improving the breed as a whole I own a rare breed, unless you are prepared to spend $100,000's on importing over the years you will be playing with a very narrow gene pool being the first importer. I don't know how that would improve the breed.

If You Had Your Obedience Dog Again

Thats awesome! My dad wants me to teach one of the dogs to find golf balls so that after his practice in the back paddock the dog can help him find them instead of his numbers of balls shirnking each week . Might use my tester dog (i.e Toby) and have a go at teaching some of this stuff to see if I can do it. And in the meantime do dumbells with Lincoln. ;) -
I may be But I think it will be just me unless it's REALLY sunny cause I don't really feel like having two wet dogs in the car on a cold day

Ok. So I have Lincoln and he knows focus and showing stuff. He is pretty much a blank canvas and I am going to treat him like one. My initial thought was to teach him stationary heeling positions (fronts and finishes), then heeling exercises (sit, down and stand) then teach him the actual heeling with very short patterns focusing on teaching the turns. After that is when you would start teaching the rest of the exercises (SFE, dumbell ect). Is that a totally stupid plan? You know you want to educate me from your mistakes and or really good ideas

I will try get a picture up tonight Maybe next to Toby for size comparison!

I am very happy to be back home with Lincoln. Just FYI for evryone a dog and crate combo weighing in at 53 kilos costs $190 to freight! It's so nice having my happy dog back around the house and he is sooooooo huge! That crate I brought that was waaaaaaaaaay to big is probably going to be the right size He is such a dork and I can't believe I survived so long without him!

Congratulations again! He looks even more stunning in the flesh and he moved beatifully Well done, it was great to have such a strong representative for the gundogs.

I wish I could have been there but I was in SA. Can you hold one again soon?

I agree with Lyndsay's statements - agility trial on today and being day after Royal did not help. Also families that have been out to the Royal are unlikely to go out again. There were still quite a few people there but did not seem as much as last time. With the herding we were in our arena which is the opposite side of the grounds to the canteen area, across the driveway in a paddock. We set our flag up and made sure it was visible but of course once everyone arrived and there were cars parked in front of us it made us tricky to find. A reasonable number wondered over to have a look but it would have been nice to see some others. Piper and Jazz did a Dancing with Dogs demo at 10am before most people arrived which was good as they were both feral at that point in time, lol. Piper did a second 1 just before 3pm while the cameraman was there. Not sure what time he arrived but judging by the footage they used it was all done in about 5 minutes and after most of the crowd had dispersed. It was pretty crowded by the main ring when the pet show was on. I think I saw you and Jazz doing dancing with dogs I was there briefly with my Chessie to walk off some steam before his flight. The birds there were very very distracting for a Chessie pup :p

Anyone get a pic of my Chessie who made a brief apperance this morning before his flight to Perth
