  1. Your dog will learn that show lead and show ring means no sitting! I never rewarded my boy for any sits wearing his show collar and lead and on show grounds and in the last few shows he has sat once in the ring when I was an idiot and gave my sit hand signal by accident! He was sitting for food ect when i got him at 8 weeks and at home is expected to sit for food, to be let out of doors ect.
  2. Hi megan, I had a post almost the exact same as this 12 months ago! (Except my boy had been in training for a year, 6 months on the flat and 6 over obstacles) When I get home I can post a youtube link of my first trial, it was pretty awful and was in march this year, so he had been going to agility training for 9 months on obstacles. My best advice is to go and steward at a trial and look at the level expected, if you think thats doable then take your dog to a trial and go over a practice jump or ask for some focus near the ring (but not in peoples way) and see how he copes with trial conditions. I think ADAA is apprently a good way to go for beginners too!
  3. Well to everyone! Today Lincoln did the cutest thing! In the morning I let them into the house from the garage and adjoining outdoor dog run but only once they are calmly sitting and they can't come in till I say so and then I say goodmorning and we have like a group cuddle then we go into the kitchen and they sit down and I open the fly screen door and do the little doovie that makes the door stay open, then turn around and release them so they can go running around the paddocks smelling where the roos were the night before. Well this morning Lincoln bolted off out the kitchen door after he was released, suddenly stopped tore back and sat in front of me, I gave him a pat and a cuddle then when i stood up he turned around and was off running again. It was like he just wanted one more pat. So to all your adorable puppies, mine is still a puppy and he is super cute too (my anti puppy till 2014 propoganda )
  4. thats just asking for trouble! I think if Lincoln eats dirt and rocks soap would be a delicay for him!

  14. Vader's mum, I couldnt recommend getting pet insurance more highly. Luckily, we got it in July and are so glad we did. As most people in this thread would be aware (sorry to those that werent, it is a really sad story). 3 weeks ago our beautiful Leila (GSP aged 21 months) was diagnosed with cytosistic sarcoma (an uncommon cancer of the lymph nodes, liver and spleed). It progressed incredibly quickly, the onlology vet at Murdoch believed she only had the disease (with no symptoms visible) for 2 to 3 weeks before diagnosis. We spent nearly $7000 trying to give her a fighting chance but unfortunately we decided that the disease had progressed quicker than the treatment could help her and the long term prognosis was not good (limited chance of remission and only short published remission times) so we chose to pts so she didnt have to suffer. We were insured with PIA and at this stage I cant comment on their service as the claims have been sent in but have not yet been paid. We had accident and illness with a $100 excess. It made any decision only based on what was best for her and giving her the best fighting chance and making sure she wasnt suffering which eased the burden a lot. The vets at Murdoch also said they deal with insurance companies regularly and are more than happy to argue if it is needed. You might think it will never happen - and we didnt think it would, and have never had insurance before, but we would never be without it now. :D Again I am so sorry about your special girl Leila. And I 110% agre with you about insurance, I got it for Lincoln before I had even brought him home and it saved me $4,500 in vet bills after emergency surgery! I am with medibank private.
  15. How awesomely fast did they get back to you! :D
  16. Probably a bit of a twist on the theme but I think right now Chessies are heading in a good direction we have fresh blood (literally and figuritavely) in the breed and just this weekend we had the first ever All Breeds BIS :D I would like to see the lines in Australia continued to be strengthened by bringing in more US blood and I would definately NOT like to see people move away from the dual purpose breed that we are! My breed isn't flashy, we are true working type dogs and we show our merits through breeding for sound, able structure correct working temprament and correct (oily, wavy, wooly undercoat harsh topcoat and no longer the 4cm) coat. Believe it or not the Chessie is a "coat breed" and I have only seen 2 judges (both internationals) ever checking my dog for correct undercoat and taking thier time on the coat. However being in a breed that is rare it's not up to the judges but us in the breed to educate these judges and be careful with our breeding to make sure we stay true, then thier is no way the judges can be awarding the incorrect type over correct type. Edit: Because I can't spell
  17. Toby was always going to be Toby regardless of breed or gender. Lilly my broer chose the name aged 9 though the man who's bitch had her wanted us to call her Tippy Toes :D Jack was named because on the way home from the pet shop (I know don't kill me!) The towel we had him on had Jack embroidered on it and it sounded like a cool name, we later remembered the reason it had Jack was cause thats my grand dad's name and then it stuck.. we joked around we were going to get a bitch and name her after my grandma (Elsie). Lincoln was close to being called Cooper or Hunter
