  1. has anyone been to Glendenning (Blacktown City Canine Centre)....just need an idea of shade, parking and all that stuff!! I still don't have a gazebo so will probably need to take my umbrella for a bit of shade if the place is quite open. Any info at all would be helpful...
  2. If the weather is better next fortnight I think we'll come along - if only to say hi to everyone and for some socialisation for Archie before your class begins Fiona Is obedience on this Sunday & seeing it is the first weekend of the month can I sign up? I'm not sure if my entries were too late for a show in Sydney, so it will depend on whether I was accepted or not. Are there more than one class/age group & time slot as I may like to bring along more than one hound? Cheers... :p Normally it would be on out the back but it is an agility trial this weekend on the obedience field - I think they will run Obedience in the front section though (where we were for show training) ..... All the classes run simultaneously - so they all start from 10am .... - unless you get them assessed individually then they will all be placed in beginners class (yellow) for the first month ... this is for everyone who's just enrolled but sometimes they separate into a couple of beginners classes if there are enough new people and they may do a puppy yellow class (small dogs) and a larger dog one ... Oooo I just read you're showing this weekend afterall - so if you hold off till April enrollments then Archie and Maja will be in the same class! lol We will be there this weekend although the OH is stewarding at the agility trial and I will have both boys under a gazebo being a spectator but i will probably wander over and bring them for a walk over the course of the morning.... I think Maja & obedience will certainly be a challenge. My older girl Eve, that I mantrail, is really smart & switched on so I thought she would be rather good at it.....although Maja needs the discipline more than Eve. I think Tracking may start up in April so I will have to see if I can fit it all in with only Sundays off on a weekend. I think Maja & Archie in a class together would be rather cute...I'm sure Maja would be the class clown...
  3. Well, I've found out that my entries were accepted for this coming weekend...so it will be my first ever show.... What does everyone like to wear...is it necessary to wear a jacket? I'm totally freaked out.....I competed with horses for years so hopefully it won't be as nerve wracking as that!! Anyone else going to Sydney on Sunday? It's at Glendenning....

  5. post pics when you get a chance....I'de love to see him even if he is in light condition. I hope his teeth will be OK...will you extract those broken canines so they don't decay & cause problems?
  6. Glad I didn't drive all that way then...probably wouldn't have been too impressed to drive 45 minutes just to find no trainers turn up!!
  7. Somehow I think I recall something about this boy...is he a brother to Oscar? Good luck with him & I hope he has a far better 'next' 4 years than his last 4!! Any news yet on the import?? Yes,he is a full brother, not quite in the same condition though. From a side shot he doesnt look too bad,but from the back he is only skin and bone and his eyes have been very neglected. He isnt taught to lead, petrified of the car and claustrophobic in the dog yard-tried to rip his way out.He was more settled tonight though, week or so he will be a different dog. Moves beautifully, has the longest stride on him. Fingers crossed you can bring him around & that he can end up living a normal life. Will you end up getting him hip & elbow scored...I suppose you have to get the fear of the car out of him first?
  8. What a shame we won't see you at shows but at least you will be doing some wonderful things with Archie. If we had trailing trials (not tracking) in Australia, that is what I would be doing. Unfortunately they only have them in the US & Europe!! Sorry I didn't make it to Hillsborough tonight...the weather looked bad & I got home later than I hoped from work, so it just didn't happen...maybe next fortnight!!

  10. one boisterous Bloodhound may be there weather & work permitting...I hope the rain stops as we need the outing!!
  11. Lmfao. I need to learn to think before I speak ;) Lets pretend I never said either of those comments lmao. I knew she had a Blood Hound it just never clicked :D too funny.... I didn't stick around for all that long (about 2 hours) but it was great to catch up with a few of you. I had a lovely shady spot under a tree, so I decided just to set the crate up there. Maja still got a chance to see everything as well as do a few laps around the field....it's such great socialisation without the pressure of actually showing. Hopefully I will get to Hillsborough on Tuesday evening. It will be my first day back at work after 3 weeks of annual leave so I will have to see what type of mess the office is in...may have to stay back if I'm swamped!! Hopefully I will be there and see a few of you!!
  12. Oh...didn't realise there would have been a difference between bringing one in & sending one over....glad she has settled in well!
  13. Ahh, I come from Kurri Kurri so would go a different way to you. I turn off the Pacific Hwy at Tomago (just over the Hexam bridge) and go down Tomago Rd/Cabbage Tree Rd to Williamtown Airport. Do you know Richardson road that goes under the freeway and follows the edge of Grahamstown Dam? I think it's the first exit off the freeway Raymond Terrace/Nelsons Bay. There are two ways you can go: 1. Follow Richardson Rd right through to the big roundabout at Campvale, and turn left onto Medowie road. Follow Medowie Rd to the next roundabout and turn left onto Ferodale Rd, then left again at the next roundabout to the showground. 2. Follow Richardson Rd past the picnic grounds/pontoon at Grahamstown Dam and turn left onto a pokey little road that continues along the shoreline, this road is Grahamstown Rd. Take the first left onto Fairlands Rd and follow it to the end. It Tee intersects onto Ferodale Rd - turn right. Follow Ferodale Rd untill you hit the first roundabout and turn right into the showgrounds As for shade, there is plenty of trees along the edge of the showground, but nothing on the field (the show is held on a footy oval). ETA: Bring mozzie repellent! They are really bad in the afternoon and into the night. Thanks heaps for the info...I've actually plugged it into my TomTom so hopefully I should find it OK. I am only bringing my baby Maja along for a look so will probably come in the morning. I'm going to bring the crate, rug etc...just so I can see how to manage it all by myself for when I go out to actually show her next month. Do you suggest bringing an umbrella? I will look for a gazebo for next month...it looks like to OzTrail ones are the most popular? Hope I catch up with a few of you...if you are seeing a woman with a rather unruly Bloodhound puppy pulling on the end of a lead...that will be me!!
  14. so has the new girl arrived as yet...would love to know that she has landed safely & she has been visited in quarantine & all is OK. Importing is such a big worry...so I hope all is fine so far? As far as i know all is well, she comes out next week i think. Havent heard anything this week, been organising a bloodhound pup to NZ-what a bloody pain when its not through a dog courier. She should be arriving there now. I don't think I would ever do it without an agent...it's worth the little extra. When we imported from NZ, we used an agent. He collected Eve & Ethel from the breeder, overnighted them in their own home and then delivered them to Hamilton airport very early the next morning. The girls landed about 10.30am our time & I collected Eve from Sydney by about midday. Ethel then flew on to her destination in WA. The agent organised absolutely everything, from importation permits, final vet inspection, crate etc.....it just took the worry out of the whole process. I hope everything goes OK with both export & import. Who is the girl coming over with? I used Jetpets from Sweden & Melanie was great!
  15. We'll be there. Where are you coming from? If it's from Newy, turn left at the RAAF base roundabout and follow that road straight through into Medowie. The first roundabout into Medowie turn left again (Ferodale Rd) and follow Ferodale rd to the next roundabout and turn left. Viola! the rings will be right in front of you Thanks for your help.......I'll be coming from Raymond Terrace way (I live out past Maitland)...is the RAAF roundabout you mention off the freeway? Can you also let me know how much shade is there. As I don't have a gazebo as yet I would like to set up my crate & rug etc under some trees...otherwise I may need to bring a large umbrella. Cheers
  16. anyone going to Medowie on Saturday? I will be taking Maja for a look only...but would love to know who else may be there. Plus, I have no idea where it is...can anyone give me an directions? cheers

  18. Poor Chester! Taking a leaf out of Leos book! He is still not looking his best, but we need to get out so there is no backing out on the shows. He is starting to get callouses on his elbows too, no matter how much bedding he has around he chooses the concrete...i've found a list of some things people put on them so as soon as I have time i'm going to try something. He is just too much of a big boofhead to be pretty How did I not know you had a Greyhound ??! (or maybe I just forgot ) Will I ever get to meet them??! ...Probably not lol...But I want some photos!?? I hope Leo copes ok, he will probably embarass me putting on the tough dog act and barking at everyone, not that he'd ever try anything, they'd clap their hands and he'd be off! ...Oh, apparently pencils are REALLY scary. I was re writing some tafe notes the other night, and he sat next to me and growled at it...I tried to let him sniff it, to let him know it's ok and he cowered away.... What on earth am I going to do with this poor boy?!!! Also wondering if we are allowed to walk around the show grounds with dogs? I was hoping to take Leo on the dodgem cars. LOL. We'll be at Medowie all day sat. Peopl need to come and be our friends! I can make my way to the toy ring, but I wouldn't be able to pick anyone else out in a crowd Lol. HH Maja sounds like she is about the same growth rate as my fatty..But sounds a lot more adventurous! yes...my little Miss Maja is quite the confident type...tail up and jumping on tables & sticky beaking at everything. I will need to put some solid handling in to her before our first show in March...she is still very strong on the lead. Unfortunately it is all due to the age she came across from Sweden plus the time spent in quarantine. She is rather smart ,so I'm sure I will have her remotely under control by show time...albeit she will be wriggly and probably want to 'slime' the judge
  19. Nice to meet you the other evening...sorry that you weren't feeling too great!! Regarding Maitland, I didn't realise it was an Ag show..I was going to take Maja along but if the parking is appauling (have to park 2 klms away & pay an entry fee) & the rides are going to be making a hell of a racket, then I might reconsider & go and have a look at Erskine Park the next day! Yep I think your on the money with that idea especially if shes only starting to get used to things, I think it might be too much for her! Come along to medowie next weekend thou Kite would love to meet a bloodhound...she will be baffled at first then will be up for a good play and she is a great play mate not too pushy and a total softy! Yeah count me in for another person who didn't realise Maitland show was The Maitland Show ... I'm not going to bring Archie into the showgrounds at 13 weeks - but he should be coming to Medowie the following weekend Kite will love Maja I'm sure .... Morty thought she was divine! Archie is quite the cutie..I'm glad others will come along to Medowie. What day is everyone going..... Saturday or Sunday?

Yes, I will certainly come along to Medowie...where is it actually held (sorry, never been there!) Just so you know, my cute baby bloodhound weighs about 24.5kgs & is 19 weeks old...I wouldn't be worried about the other dogs needing to be soft with her as she loves to launch herself at my other two hounds at home...rather confident, boisterous young lassie!!

  22. Yeah it is all such a gamble....almost a bit like Russian roulette. Lets hope we get some healthy strong new lines that gel very nicely with some of the great lines we already have! I won't know until Maja is 2...although I may get her penn hipped earlier just to give me a glimpse.
  23. What a cutie... This will also be my first class....unfortunately due to all the quarantine mumbo jumbo I couldn't get Maja any earlier so we have missed out on some of the real cute puppy stuff. Hopefully she won't be too unruly....but cuteness will make up for it See you this evening!
  24. I do hope you can make it!! Just to warn you, Maja is a wriggly, dribbly, very excitable BIG puppy...she weighs 24.4kgs at 18 weeks. Just another newbie question...do I need to bring anything specific with me? Looking forward to meeting everyone. Cheers Michelle
  25. Tomorrow evening at Hillsborough...really looking forward to it!. The people from DOL that are going, can you tell me what dogs you will have so I know you when I get there? I will stand out like a sore thumb as I will be the only one with a bloodhound! Cheer ;)
