  1. Looks good...now we just wait for Sunday to see how she goes in Group Thanks HH...news just to hand via mobile is that Shaylee Thomas (Shelly's handler in the photo/Steve's daughter) won 1st placing in the Sydney Royal Junior Handler's today, in her age group...even more exciting on Sunday for them now as she goes up against all the other Junior handler winners in their age groups ....go Shaylee woohoo...Shaylee. Did she handle Shelly or the Aussie for the junior handler...or maybe something else, as I think I recall the Aussie was blowing her coat?? Fingers crossed for the Thomas family on Sunday...is Steve any good as texting as I'de love to know??

  3. Any updates with transport?? I have my fingers crossed that it can be sorted out for this boy.
  4. slightly OT but may be relevant, but I was told the ANKC had rejected Penn Hip scores, and I believe the FCI has just recently had meetings and the recognition of these scores is considered no longer viable. Sorry I cant help with the topic, but thought this may be of use. Wow...well that is very interesting. It certainly is recognised by the OFA in the US and therefore the AKC. Can you advise where you heard this...is it on a website or through a Canine association? I would love to get further information?
  5. I have been feeding Eagle Pack Holistic to my Bloodhounds for years now. I had one girl who was extremely itchy but since being on EP Holistic Salmon & Anchovy her skin has been brilliant. I recently imported a pup from Sweden & actually sent over the EP Holistic Transition Probiotic to the breeder, as we were unable to have her on the same food in Sweden...So when she arrived in quarantine in Australia, I supplied EP Holistic puppy canned & EP Holistic Salmon & Anchovy dry plus I also supplied the powdered EP Holistic Transition Probiotic to sprinkle over the food. This girl never fussed over her food in quarantine & hasn't looked back since arriving. I would 100% recommend Eagle Pack
  6. That's great if you can pull him....is it the dog you thought it was?? Have you had any luck with getting him out to you?
  7. This is definitely something that they are doing in the US and it is a DNA test, so I would assume they are looking for specific identified markers ...I do not think there has been any recorded cases here in OZ (Baylord may be able to add to this but I have never heard it discussed). Seeing my girl is imported, I want to ensure that she is as healthy as possible and not going to introduce anything sinister. I haven't heard of any problems from her lines but it will give me peace of mind if I have the test done. I did see a banner on DOL (I think) that advertised DM testing - a kit can be sent to you & then you can send it away. Personally I think I will talk to a vet/specialist and see what they say. Good luck with the semen importation. You do need to be a little careful from Europe as many breeders DO NOT health test OR they are breeding with health scored hounds that are well in excess of the breed mean score....I think they feel that just as long as you have a score that you can still proceed to breed, regardless of the figure. I do know of one breeder who is breeding with a bitch who has a hip score of 25 and feels that this is quite acceptable!!! I contacted Dr Wyburn a little while back & asked him about what would be considered acceptable for our breed (I actually had to pay him for this info...!!). He mentioned that the BH mean score here in Australia is approx 16 - 18. He therefore said that no one hip should score more than half of the mean average score, i.e. 8 - 9, and then you would be hesitant as you should be selecting bitches that are well below the mean score...otherwise you are perpetuating poor hips. Elbows are the same....0/0 - 1/1 are acceptable above that you should only breed to a hound with a 0/0 score!! Elbows i wouldnt breed with at all if higher than 1,whether it was to a o:o stud or not!! ED is a worry over there,as is epilepsy, but only one kennel over there has mentioned it-it is on there website, trying to wade through the pedigrees is the hard part . Thats why i am trying to get multiple pups from a litter scored, have already arranged to have a couple of pet pups done from these litters last year when they are old enough, so i can get a better indication of hip/elbow health-both parents were 0:0 though for elbows, and below the average for hips. I also cant believe you had to pay for the info on hips/elbows I got told that when i had my first one done through Veterinary Imaging(AVA) for free!!!!! He also mentioned that no one of the 9 hip features should be above a 3.....I have seen hipe scores well above that from breeders in the UK!

  9. I need some information on vets in Sydney or Newcastle/Hunter area who do Penn Hip testing. I have received one quote from the Vet Specialist centre at North Ryde for $750...seems rather steep to me! If anyone has had this done, can you advise what the charges were just so I have a bit of a guide, as well as who took the xrays. Any assistance would be appreciated. Cheers
  10. Thanks for the tip re the breeders thread.... Penn Hip tests can be done from 16 weeks of age & the films must go to Pennsylvania, hence the additional expense...but apparently is more accurate from what I have been told. I also need to find out who is suitably qualified to take the xrays in the manner required. Elbows unfortunately still need to be done the same old way and around the 2 year mark. If I am going to a specialist centre then I will get an ECG done at the same time whilst she is under. I would also like to get DNA testing done for DM.
  11. He is looking so much better Tina...fingers crossed he will continue to improve! Still curious about the girl who was coming from the US...has she arrived yet?? Hi Michelle-he looks better, but trying to get the weight on is hard-he has been so long at that low weight,i seriously doubt if i can get it on him again. He was going to be hip /elbow scored and his teeth looked at,bu tthe vets want more weight on him first before he goes under anaesthetic. Yes,the girl arrived and has been out of quarantine for a while, they are just having problems transferring everything in to the australian registry at the moment-but i think that is nearly sorted too.Havent really got any info on her, they are going to take some pics shortly and send them. How is your girl going with the trailing? The SES unit here is chomping at the bit for me to re-start Dyson, but i doubt if i will have the time at present with the kids work schedules, and i am working nights and doing tafe as well. Will try to get going once the danger of snakes has passed-there are heaps of them up here due to the orchards. I'm not going to mantrail Maja...I am going to try tracking instead! I have only had her in harness twice & being a bloodhound bitch she seems rather keen. It is the usual thing for me though....no one to lay tracks. I can have her track me (which is not uncommon for tracking) but i can't do it all the time as she might think that is the only scent she is to look for. Hopefully I will get some training done with the local tracking club but most of their training days are on saturdays & I work!! I will take Maja to a Hound show in Sydney this weekend (weather permitting) & then a few more in May. She is quite a tall girl & a bit gangly at the moment, so I'm not sure what the judges will think of her. She is a wild child! Glad the US girl finally arrived..would love to know more details & see some pics once you have them. I will probably have Maja Penn hip tested soon...just got to find out who is accredited to do the xrays. I got one quote from a Sydney specialist & they quoted $750 Apparently the films need to be sent to Pennsylvania for evaluation. I'm going to shop around & see if I can get a better deal from someone a little closer...but I must be guaranteed that they know what they are doing and have done it before otherwise you may get a bad reading/result. cheers

  13. They look great....a big day for the pups, I bet they slept like logs that night!! Well done & I hope it does turn into a monthly event. Cheers
  14. I recently imported a pup from Sweden...a category 2, so I fortunate enough not to have to worry about rabies vaccs..but there were still titres required. There is NO WAY I would have wanted my girl to have been in quarantine any longer than the 30 days. The visitation is VERY restrictive. At Eastern creek in Sydney you are only permitted 2 x 30 minute exercise visits PER WEEK...that's right only 1 hour in an entire week, then you are permitted to visit in the kennels 'only' on Tuesday & thursdays between 1.30 & 3.30...the rest of the time the only real interaction the dogs get is when they swap them from the night pen to the day pen (if they have enough runs), then when they hose the kennels out & of course meal time - only once a day unless you request two. it just isn't the ideal scenario for most dogs, so a 30 maximum is my recommendation!!
  15. she wasn't looked at for sweeps....... she was the only BH, so she won her breed & was looked at long & hard for group but a very gorgeous Saluki won that. I'm just happy at this point that she is taking it all in her stride. I'm sure once she fills out & doesn't look quite so gangly that she will be looked at! I thought I saw you wheeling a trolley around but I am not brilliant at being 100% positive of peoples faces. I think last time I saw you that you were wearing a hat...so my apologies that I didn't say hello! How are your gorgeous ones going??
  16. Is anyone going to Hillsborough tomorrow evening.....is it still on & will there be an instructor there? Any info would be great as I would hate to drive an hour to Hillsborough just to find out it was cancelled. Thanks
  17. PM centitout - pretty sure I've read here that she's organised rescue in the past. Wonder if the breeder knows ETA: At least he is desexed Hope he finds a great home. Has anyone contacted the person who has advertised this boy? I might send an email just to check it out & put my feelers out for placement. Unfortunately I don't have many contacts in QLD, but I know of a few people who may. Centitout is always pretty good at assisting, as you have also mentioned, so if we all get working on it, this lovely boy might end up in a lovely forever home! It's going to be stressful for this poor boy seeing he is 5 1/2...what a shame! Cheers I have emailed the lady who owns him.....and it looks like it has been sorted for this boy. Most likely going to a man trailing home in QLD if he shows apptitude & willingness for the work - alternatively she has also been contacted by someone in VIC that also has hounds. Hopefully this will be a great ending as it does appear that the current owners have his welfare at heart!!

  19. Centitout......any news on the import?? Has she hit quarantine yet??
  20. Howdy I was really pleased with her...she was great in the 3 - 6mth sweepstakes....lots of energy and was reasonably well behaved for her first time at a show. She was called in (6 called in out of 30 - that was the number entered in the catalogue) but didn't go further than that. Obviously got breed puppy as she was the only one in the class. The Group puppy class was early afternoon & it was so hot & humid so she was rather dull and tired by that point. I almost had to drag her around but she stacked quite nicely - a cute little greyhound won!! So for our first attempt at a Dog Show (hers & mine) I was rally pleased. Unfortunately no pics....I forgot to ask someone to take one for me.
  21. as much as they are stubborn at times, I have found them relatively easy to put basic obedience on, seeing they are so keen to please. I'm sure you will have him wrapped around your finger in no time. Glad the transfer will be uncomplicated. I take Maja to her first show this weekend...a bit daunting as it is also my first show.... :D Good luck, i went back to a show for the first time a few weeks ago,and i was so nervous i did the two hands on the lead thing ;) Too many years of leading TB'S around on the studs i think! Luckily though the dogs were a dream in the ring,so Maja may behave better than you are thinking she is going to! Our next one is a kennel club show on the 14th,only with Edward though,Leila may go to a few others when i get used to it again. I know what you mean about the two hands on the lead thing as I got pulled up on that in a handling class I went to a few weeks ago. It is definitely from leading horses for too many years. For me to be truly comfortable I really need the dogs on the other side as well....don't like this left hand thing!

  23. Good idea....no point putting him under twice! Will he be transferred to your name...and is he on the main register?
  24. I think I have seen this pic before.... I can't comprehend why people would want a dog if they are going to just keep it on a chain....I can't understand the mind set . I truly hope you can give this boy have a happy life. I'm sure he will enjoy being part of a pack...looks like he really deserves it!!
