  1. Hi My young girl is in season and is normally allowed to swim daily in our salt water chlorinated pool. I have phoned my vet but he is currently on holidays, so I thought I would throw the question out to all on DOL. This girl is my Swedish import so I am needing to be very careful and obviously don't want to risk pyometra! I have received mixed opinions from other breeders I have spoken to. Thanks for any input
  2. Just wondering if NSW are going to try to implement Rally O??.....I think the only club interested was in Sutherland...would anyone know if a club on the Central Coast or Hunter Valey may be considering starting??? I would love receive any info you can offer. Cheers
  3. Well finally Petstock in Newcastle area has large supplies of EP Holistic Select -- YAH Petshop Boyz are cheaper than petstock. If you buy online it is even cheaper even if you add on the delivery!!!
  4. When can this start happening in NSW....is there anyone else in NSW that is interested??? It's so frustrating as I would love to find somewhere that trains for Rally O & will eventually do trials!!!
  5. I agree with your comment here......I have used Cryogenes in the past & was not impressed with the communication & the continual change of expected ETA's. The semen did eventually arrive...although months after the promised date!! I'm between a rock & a hard place here....this is why I was contemplating using Sires on Ice for this importation BUT I am very apprehensive with the US side of things with SOI. SilverHaze, can you tell me when you imported using ICSB?? Apparently the contact person at Grass Valley is now a different person to when I imported...and apparently is very good, her name is Bridgett. Do you know if it was Bridgett or Barb who was the ICSB contact??
  6. I'd suggest contacting Baylord, as I recall one of her bitches requiring some attention to a mammary lump when she was only relatively young and prior to ever having a litter!!
  7. Not good ....I will admit that tardy correspondence really shows me a lack of professionalism. I have made contact with Carl Pew, whom I suspecting is your contact also, but I will admit I am extremely sceptical at the thought of having semen collected & blood drawn in one state of the US & then having to ship to him to freeze & get the bloodwork processed in another state......my thought process would be that it is best to freeze as soon as possible, to increase your chance of good numbers post thaw?? If I choose to have it frozen by another repro vet then the charges increase dramatically. It's disappointing as i would like to have the semen come directly to Sydney (as Jessica seems quite switched on) but it's looking as if I will deal with Cryogenes & ICSB in the US. Downfall to this is increased cost & the semen flys in to Melbourne & stored briefly at Monash vet clinic...so it means another flight & expense!! I think they are the only two choices when it comes to group shipments from the US...I love to know if there may be another agent?? I need to use an agent as I would hate to stuff things up this end & AQIS discard the consignment...which they can do if you get the paperwork incorrect.
  8. I'm also interested in finding a club or a group of like minded people who train with clicker. I have only just started doing it with my hounds (they aren't the easiest to train in obedience) but they have taken well to clicker....but I MUST have food rewards otherwise they are not motivated. I would be interested in finding out what you dig up....I am in the Maitland area Cheers
  9. Hi I know it's starting to get a bit warm, but I would love to catch up with some interested/like minded people to get together & do some tracking training in the Newcastle area or surrounds. I have bloodhounds & would love to continue working with them in the off season. I'm happy to travel as well. If you might be interested please post or PM me... Cheers
  10. That of course is supposed to say Sires ON Ice....sorry for the typo!!
  11. Hi Back to the topic of importing semen....Has anyone used Sires on Ice to import semen from the US?? If so, have you used the semen & have you achieved a live litter? You can PM me if you would prefer any information remains confidential. Cheers
  12. I have bloodhounds, so I have trained for man trailing as well as tracking. My BH bitch got her TD title this season & will step out doing a TDX5 next year. Personally I don't like leaving food on the track as this can encourage a dog to LOOK for food rather than following the scent. You need a scent article of the person who is laying the track (wooly socks are great) at the start and it is also good to place other socks along the way...just to keep your dog on track. If you choose to do tracking trials later on, the dog MUST find & indicate the articles. The higher the track the more articles and the longer it goes for. We always leave the treats enclosed in a container at the final article...which is usually substantially larger, like a shirt or jumper. When they indicate the 'find' or final article give high praise & then the treats as a reward for a good job. Initially you don't want your tracks to be too hard...just short and sweet with a few articles along the way...you need high praise when they indicate the article. One 90degree turn initially...then you can add another leg/turn later as the penny starts to drop. You will need a harness & normally I don't like to harness up until you are just about at the start scent article...this then indicates to the dog that they are about to go to work. Where are you from...I'm always happy to do some fun training in tracking. I'm in the Hunter Valley
  13. I've since been told it was someone who was working for Barbara Killworth. I will contact her and if she can't help then I will try your lead. Thanks
  14. Hi all Just wondering if anyone who was there on Sunday for the PM show has any idea who the photographer was...inparticular the Hound Group. I saw him taking photos of each dog & I would love to get a photo if possible. Any leads at all would be welcome. I have left a message on the Cessnock Dog club answering machine & sent them an email...but I thought DOL may be quicker. Cheers...and well done to the organisers & everyone who competed on the weekend, there were some wonderful dogs on show!
  15. My kiwi girl had a lot of skin issues that we put down to food intolerance. We changed her food to Holistic Select Salmon & Anchovy, then we cut out all chicken & beef from her diet and substituted with turkey or lamb. Her coat now shines like a new penny, she no longer scratches or has dandruffy skin and has firm stools.
  16. Thanks for all the info....I have looked on Ebay on the odd occasion and even picked up quite a nice jacket. I will have to look at the Facebook options as well....and maybe even an op shop or two!! Thanks to everyone who has posted
  17. Hi all I have been searching department stores & just can't find anything appealing. I certainly don't want to go for after 5 wear & I'm too old for the new 'Millitary look', so can someone point me in the right direction. I normally wear a size 12 but going for a small 14 will give me a bit more room... I hate seeing gaping jackets when people are stacking their dogs. I keep checking for items that are fo sale but it appears that most things for sale at the moment are for size 8 - 10 or 16+. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. As I show a bloodhound with a dark saddle, I can't go for pants or skirts that are too dark cheers
  18. Yes...I also used Jetpets, who in turn used Scandipets for my import from Sweden. It was a relatively painless although using Jetpets does add to the overall cost. But for me it was worth every penny!
  19. Hi Rain Hillsborough is not far from Charlestown and also Warners bay...are you new to the area as well?? I will be going to 2 shows at Hillsborough and I think there is one at Morisset in September as well. No, i don't train obedience with my girl...Bloodhounds & obedience don't mix :p I compete in tracking trials with one of my other BH's..and will compete with the young girl next year, as the season is due to end next weekend. I LOVE tracking & so do the hounds...I like to show my young girl as she was imported from Sweden but my love is working them in harness. Cheers
  20. Hi Rain I am a relative newbie as well....have only started showing this year!! I know that there are show training evenings at Hillsborough but due to my work committments I find it hard to get there. I have never found something suitable in our area, so if you do find some around the Maitland area I would appreciate if you would PM me!! My girl is 10 months & it would still be beneficial for her as well. There are a few nice ladies on another thread...I think it is called 'Showing for the first time' ?? and I recall a few of them go to Hillsborough...maybe you should post on there & see how you go? it would be awesome to see a Neo puppy!! I was up at Taree last weekend & there were a few up there... You can PM me if you think I can be of any assistance. I show by myself mostly, as there aren't many Bloodhounds showing, so if you are entering anything in September at Hillsborough & need to share a gazebo just let me know. i usually only enter Sundays as I work Saturdays. cheers
  21. Hi Rain I am from the Maitland area as well...what breed do you have or what breed group? I do not show alot but will be going to a few next month at Hillsborough with my bloodhound girl!! Some of those shows may be good ones to start at. You can do a puppy sweepstakes (3 - 6 mths) & then possibly a baby puppy class in your breed!!
  22. Hi Just wanting some feedback into Pet Insurers....do many people cover their show & breeding dogs? If so, what company do you use & what level of cover. I'm considering covering my hounds but am unsure if it is really worth it or am I better off putting the cash in the bank each month? Thanks for any input!
  23. I have bloodhounds and my three get on brilliantly...just the odd issue every now & then like any family unit.... I have taken them to dog parks after training, together with 3 others owned by friends & they have always gotten on and played well with the other dogs in the park. Bit of an awesome sight having five or so bloodhounds together playing...due to there size it is usually the other dog owners who have a problem, not their dogs!! Scent hounds, as a general rule, get along well with other dogs...not particularly quarrelsome.
  24. Sounds like a good idea...how is that done??
