Bummer.....I don't knock off work until 5.30pm at Maitland, so that doesn't look like it will be suitable! Thanks for the info....I saw this message after your PM message :)

Hi All After a 6 week break from showing my young girl has decided that Dog Shows are a VERY scary place and can't possibly gait with the tail up or without fear. I was hoping that there might be some dog show training starting up again at Hillsborough for 2012? If anyone has details of dates or times, or knows who I can contact either by phone or email, it would be appreciated! Thanks

Act Hound Club 3 December Twilight Show

I'll be coming.....first time camping, so do you have any pointers about the grounds or facilities?? -
When I bought my Swedish girl to Oz (January 2010) her flights were from Arlanda Stockholm via Heathrow...if they go via Heathrow they MUST stay one night at Heathrow quarantine(some stupid UK regulation??)Thankfully AQIS will permit the seal to be broken by the station at Heathrow...so the dog can come out of the crate, have a meal & sleep in a kennel...they are then resealed the next day ready for their flight to Oz. From Heathrow to Australia there was a stopover in Singapore for refueling..so from memory the flight was about 21 hours?? I do not know of a direct route from Stockholm, so make sure you check this out properly. Are you using an agent?? I have used Jetpets twice...the first time from Sweden went without a hitch...the one from Belgium was a disaster, so make sure you ask LOTS of questions & demand a flight schedule which details ALL stopovers (even for refueling)!

I'm assuming you have all the necessary vaccs & titre tests completed. What country are you importing from...if it's a category 4 country & you haven't got the ball rolling already, then I think you chances are slim to none, sorry!! I had my Belgian import released from quarantine yesterday & from the date of the Import permit (dated one month after the rabies vaccination - and when results from the titre tests came back within range) to the date she flew in to Sydney, it was 5 months. Category 2 countries are different (UK, Sweden)..you must still have a rabies vacc & blood work done but the animals are allowed in much earlier.
-
I have used GTE transport..they shipped semen for me from Cryogenes in Vic to the Rocky Ridge facility in NSW. They were prompt & amazingly VERY good value!
-
Do you know if the semen was collected in accordance with the AQIS guidelines for a category 4 country??? You will find that you will not be able to import semen that has been collected before a dog has had all the required tests/vet examinations, rabies titre tests & identified by microchip etc. It's quite a process...so make sure you do your homework first, because if you don't your consignment can be refused entry to Australia!!

Accommodation In Gulgong For The Mudgee Shows In August
Hunterhound replied to Hunterhound's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the info.....I will check a few of those out! I only want somewhere to sleep for the night that will also allow my hound in a crate. I do not like the idea of her sleeping in the car by herself and I think it will be far too cold for me to sleep in the van...it's not set up at all for camping! I have tried a few in Mudgee & I keep coming receiving the same reply....NO DOGS due to health regualtions...blah blah blah... -
Hi I would like to find accommodation in Gulgong or surrounding areas for 4th & 5th August. I would like just a self contained room for one or two nights that will allow a crated dog inside. I have tried 3 different caravan parks & 2 won't allow dogs & Henry Lawson Caravan Park is apparently already booked for the Dog Show weekend. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If I can't get accommodation then unfortunately I won't be able to go, which would be a great shame. Thanks for any assistance!! Cheers

Isn't John Newell now at Belmont vet clinic...they do alot of AI with Greyhounds!! They are apparently very good...

I was at the Hound Show at Castle Hill the week prior & there were only 179 entries....not sure where 500 came from????

brilliant...thankyou for posting.

I have imported from Sweden & am currently in the process from Belgium. Two different categories in terms of AQIS requirements. The US is a category 4, as is Europe, and the timing of Rabies vaccinations and titre tests are vital....you also must ensure that you use a Government approved vet to sign off on the Cert A & Cert B. The category 4 countries take the longest due to the bloodwork & then the obligatory 5 month period post testing, so be prepared for a looooong wait...not to mention the 30day quarantine once in Australia. I used Jetpets for my Swedish import and was so impressed with the communication and organisation of Melanie, that I am using them again. YES, it is expensive to use an agent, but you will have peace of mind that everything has been done in accordance with AQIS requirements.....and not have your dog refused entry upon arriving into Australia!! They organise everything in conjunction with their affiliate agents in the country of origin.....the breeder is given a timeline for vaccinations, bloods, vet checks etc and the affiliate agent also keeps in constant contact with the breeder. All flights, import permits & even the booking of quarantine is done for you....I personally wouldn't risk doing it myself incase I missed something..

Hillsborough Obedience Club

IWH doing obedience......???? Awesome if it is !!!! -
Yep, I switched to Canidae as I was totally fed up with stock not being available. I use the salmon meal Canidae variety and my 3 hounds are doing well on it. Very high in protein, so I would be cautious though if I were feeding large breed youngster!!

As it turns out I didn't take her out anyway, as it was the extremely hot weekend & it just wasn't worth it...for both our sakes!!! She would have been day 21...probably still offering some lovely girlie smells to the boys, but definitely not putting on a show ;) I always toilet her away from everyone anyway, regardless of whether she is in season or not....I don't like using public toilets mayself, unless I have to, so I'm a bit the same with her..... It was interesting to read everyones comments......pet hates & suggestions. Having a bloodhound I must admit my pet hate is people dropping bait on the ground...even if they pick it up, my girl still knows it has been there. I never complain, as that is part of showing, but it isn't always easy to get a bloodhounds head up if they are on a scent. Just my two scents worth for the frankfurt throwing handlers... :D Thanks for everyones input.....it's been interesting!!

T & G All Breeds Show ~ Saturday 5/2/2011
Hunterhound replied to Havasneeze's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was entered for both shows at EP this weekend but chose not to exhibit for both my hound and my own health! This type of stupidity of not canceling these shows, due to the extreme heat, is just another opportunity for the groups of people that are anti pedigree dogs and the show scene. What great ammunition for them to establish that showing can be cruel!! Committees need to be more responsible in this area and not be concerned about loosing a few dollars.....our dogs health is paramount here! -
Thanks everyone! If the weather is stifling then I won't show anyway, but it looks as though the general response is to show her.......but do it respectfully for the dog exhibitors.
-
Just curious how many people show their bitches in season? My girl will be day 21 on Sunday and I'm not sure whether to scratch or exhibit. She only has 2 points to get her title, so it is possible she may achieve it this weekend! I'm in two minds???
-
Thanks for your replies......I was more of the opinion that it would do no harm but was interested on other peoples point of view or experiences! She loves her daily swim so I didn't want to take that from her especially seeing she is restricted to one of the smaller yards for a few weeks.

Hi, Have not heard of any changes, but I am speaking to my shipper in the UK tomorrow so will ask him. Doesn't NZ have quarrantine for arriving dogs? I have some docs from the USA shipper i use re the changes expected mid year. May be good may be just the same ! I ask myself WHY do all the countries I want my lines from be 6 months quarantine lol Hahaha.....I'm hearing you, although thankfully my last import was from Sweden, but the next is from a category 4, so 9 months before departure and then 30 days in quarantine. I hate loosing all those early months with them!
