This gets me really angry too. Once saw an advert ;little staffy was mated to bull mastiff x ridgeback. The pups she was feeding in the photo looked almost the same size as their mum.It is animal cruelty alright;but why is it not illegal. It seems if a dog has food and water and no obvious injuries that's ok .When will laws be made to protect animals from such mental and physical torment.

My parents are deceased. There was a report made to police by the pups owners as there had been information from guests at the party about who took the dog and the intentions behind it. Thankfully the laws on animal welfare have progressed somewhat but we still have far to go.

Sorry about the loss of your dogs, but I can assure you vet students don't go prowling the streets like young Frankenstiens looking for dogs to experiment upon. I'd be checking with your parents about where the dogs went, or maybe they were stolen, but someone's fed you porky pies about where they went. fifi Thankyou ,Maybe not these days ;but back in the 1950's they were doing nasty stuff to animals in the name of science.

When i was 10 years old my dog had puppies,<My parents would not get her fixed.>One pup went to a neighbour,i saw him every day on my way to school. After a party at there house MY little pup was missing.Later i heard that he was taken by some vet students to be used for experiments,At the time i did not want to believe it.Well there was a warning this would be upsetting.A few weeks later his mother, My dog was stolen from our back yard. Vet students can learn the same way as medical students do.The only people to blame are the ones that make the policies that allow anyone to buy sell and breed dogs We need animals not to be sold in pet shops, a license to own or sell an animal; mandatory education test before you can own a pet.

The first step is to find a breed that suits ones lifestyle, energy level, etc I like many breeds ,eg Weimaraners, and schnauzers but the breeds dont suit me.Have a look at showdog.com They have a breed selector that i find more useful than most. These breed selectors are just a guide but are useful especially if getting a dog for the first time.If she likes the look of the schnauzer perhaps she may also like Airedales. They are very smart and good with the young and old.

Hello,I;m sorry about Kaspa. Our dog died 3 years ago and i still miss her every day.She was on death row at the pound only because they said she was passed over because she was ugly ,but we thaught she was great Looked like a jackel with big ears.Later she looked more wolfhound as she aged. From what i've read of the culys temperament its very similar to our late Pippa dog.Haven't had a dog that liked swimming before so i guess i would need to check the ears quite often.Have been reading and research many dog breeds over the last 2 years.I have learned a lot from just reading this forum. Now i have a short list so i can start to look at some dogs and see how that goes. Our Pippa was the best dog for our family, every dog is unique and you can never replace them.Thankyou.

Our block is just under half an acre .there is a dog park 10 minutes away so dog would get minimum 1or 2 hours a day running around.Would be getting a female, they are a bit smaller than the males.Need to look at fence heights and access to water play.I dont go out to work so would like the dog to be inside with me as well.We are 15 minute walk to dog training school Alpha .i thinks the name. Thankyou.

Moderate shedding is ok .Just don;t like hair in my tea.I think they might be seasonal shedders. some People think low shed means low allergy ,With me it's its the strong doggy smell that makes me allergic, Our last dog was from a pound she was a wolfhound x bull terrier . At 10 months she was smooth coated at 3 years she was rather shaggy and seasonal light shedder. However she was a clean smelling dog and i only reacted to her if she was overdue for a bath. Will need to spend time with some curlys to see if i react,After easter i will call some breeders to see if i can find one local to see. Thanks again.

Are dogs allowed to swim in local lakes or are there special places to take dogs to swim.

Yes energy level is a consideration as i'm 54 this year.Short periods of active would be ok .Looked after a Kelpie for a day and he wore me out.Wonder if some are less active than others.Have heard they are an adaptable breed.Once saw one on rescue site interstate,it had been left there cos the owner said it would not go in the water.Lame excuse. Thanks to all .

Hello,I'm fairly new to posting so if this is the wrong place for this topic let me know. Have short listed curly coated retriever as a breed for my next dog. They must be rare because i have only seen one .I live outer east of Melbourne . Have emailed a breeder with questions about them but did not get a reply.I would like to see one and test if i would be allergic as i am to some breeds as i have read they can be suitable for allergic people like a poodle. As much as i like poodles ,the red standards are great,,i want a dog with less coat clipping. Are they suitable as a family pet? Any information about them would be appreciated .thanks.

Some Breeds Less 'smelly' Than Others?
budgiew replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
I grew up with many breeds of dogs and was not allergic to any However after a long illness in my late 30;s i became allergic to most dogs and chemicals . etc I found i was better with smooth coated breeds and got a bull terrier x wolfhound from a pound. We had her for 10 years, The only time she smelt was when she needed a bath and i would know if she was due for one cos my allergy would kick in. It has been 3 years since she died and i miss her very much, she was my constant companion. Now i would like another dog but i must be sure i'm not going to have a bad reaction. So have spent the last 2 years researching dog breeds sniff testing different dogs .So far for me i find smooth coated breeds and those with seasonal moderate shedding are better and male dogs seem to have a much stronger odour than females . I have found bull terriers mini schnauzers and weimaraners even a male one i tested with was good. Am looking for someone with a curly coated retriever to sniff as i heard they are low allergy but need to check for myself.Don;t think its fair that people say just don't get a dog i really like a dog for company .and i am tired of people when they roll there eyes when you say you are allergic like they do not believe you.Imagine feeling like your head is in a vice and your brain feels like it will explode your eyes water your chest feels heavy like you cant breath headache from hell .Thats what it feels like.So do i just go and get any dog and put up with these symptoms for 10 years or more. Or i can continue my search for one that may suit me? Here is a list of dogs that have least doggy smell. All dogs have some odour . Hear is a list of low odour dogs to cosider.Alaskan malamute-silky terrier- basenji- bichon frise -belgian shepherds-bolognese-boston terrier-bull terrier-chinese crested-coton de tulear-dalmation-italian greyhound-havanese-japanese spits-keeshound-lhasa apso-low chen-maltese-norwegian elkhound-papillon-phalene-pomeranian-poodles-samoyed-schnauzers-shetland sheepdog-husky-tibetan spaniel-yorkshire terrier. -
I am allergic to many dog breeds .But i don;t react to schnauzers and bull terriers.Google who's ya doggy?dog breed chooser for list of low allergy dogs. You will need to try a dog in your home for about a week to see if your allergies start .A breeder i know will let her pup on trial and take it back of coarse .She breeds dandy dinmont terriers,i think they may suit you .Worth a look. www.whosyadoggy.com/dog-breeds-without-doggy-odour.html

What's A Suitable Breed For My Lifestyle?
budgiew replied to Sabby's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi. I think a German shorthair pointer . I owned one that loved cats and small dogs. But the cat didnt like her.Do consider a rescue dog as so many larger breeds are P.T.S because they are harder to rehome than the little ones. You should be able to see how the dog is with cats and small dogs at the pound. pointers are active outdoors and can chill out inside when given adequate exercise..Also i agree with labradors or golden retriever. There is a lab x pointer ?? at Campbelltown pound also look at showdog.com. breed selector.Have found this one to be very good. Excuse my typing as i am new to computers and posting. very sorry that you lost your dog.
