  1. So is there any difference in the results from cultured cells or those harvested from your dogs own fat?
  2. Oohhhh very interesting - I think my boy could be a candidate. Does anyone know if there are any vets in SA that are using this kind of treatment?
  3. THE DEBATE IS OVER IT IS NOW WELL ESTABLISHED THAT AFTER 3 YEAARS DOGS NO LONGER NEED VACCINATIONS. wORMING IS QUIYE A DIFFERENT QUESTION YOU NEED TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN REGILAR WORMING FOR ALL WORMS INCLUDING HEART WORM. sUPERMARKET PRODUCTS ARE QUITE ACCEPTABLE MAKE SURE THAT THE ALL WORMER YOU CHOOSE HAS HEARWORM AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHERS ALSO GIVE THE CORRECT DOSE FOR THE EIGHTN OF YOUR DOH. dENISE bRING SINCE 1965 This is the first time I've ever heard this... I have always been told to steer well clear of the supermarket products. Can anyone shed any further light on this?
  4. Squeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! Look at Gizmo's fat little belly, I just want to blow raspberries on it And those pink little paws Awww I'm truly in love!
  5. So what are the conditions that stem cells are being used for? My boy has inflammatory polyarthropothy and my vet did mention it in passing last week which has made me curious.
  6. Yeah I agree with those re the homeopathic remedies.... I too used it on my horses with great success. To be honest though I don't know much about it for dogs. Anyone care to shed some light or have any links I could read up on? But the jury is still out for me on worming and flea treatments. I've never had a problem with either (well actually one outbreak of fleas which still gives me the heebie jeebies) but I don't want it to ever become a problem either. For those who use the 3 monthly worming schedule what product do you use?
  7. I've just had one dog have his annual vaccinations last week and then this week both were due for their worming and flea tablets. It got me thinking...I know there has been some debate whether we over vaccinate our dogs and therefore people have moved to different vaccination schedules such as every 3 years or are titre testing instead. But is there the same debate over wether we are giving worm & flea treatments too often? To me there seems to be ALOT of chemicals being administered to them which I don't really like very much. Could I change to worming/flea treatments every second month without putting the dogs at too much risk?
  8. Yes I remember Baily9's little Mia (well wouldn't be little now).... I was seriously in love!!!!!!!!
  9. Comes in to fight everyone off for Gizmo.....ssoooooo Cute!!!!!!!!!! He looks exactly like a 'Gizmo' too. Perfect name!
  10. Your Daisy knows that Barbie has had work done LOL!!! One of my Griffons used to go to the laundry, up-end the laundry basket and chew the crutch out of all the underwear she could get her teeth into... she also chewed the crutch out of my hubbies jeans :D My Anatolian came to greet me just the other night when I got home from grocery shopping... I left the doors to my pickup truck open whilst bringing all the groceries into the house... Didn't realise that he had reached into my truck and grabbed the toilet tissue - the big 36 roll bulk pack..... whilst it is winter here at the moment, and we have only had one snowfall so far... next morning I bleary eyed looked out the window and thought it had snowed... blinked a couple of times and realised that it was the toilet paper, all chewed into little pieces scattered all over our front lawn. I hadn't even realised the night before that the toilet paper was not amongst the groceries My two working border collie pups are tool thieves... I find wrenches, spanners, screw drivers and even the big pipe wrench (which is quite heavy) scattered all over the paddock. Wish they would put those tools to good use and go fix something :D Well they are 'working' BC pups so of course they take the tools Sorry lame joke but I just had to
  11. I buy my guys the ready made patties... but they are little dogs so I don't find it that expensive. If I'm honest thought I also like them because I don't have to think about anything... they get 1/2 a pattie each in the morning and some chicken necks in the evening and some other meaty bones on the weekends. I wish I could find a resource where it told me EXACTLY what to feed (rather than feed A or B or C or D), and how much to feed. If I had this then I would probably move away from teh ready made patties. I'm even like this with my own eating - I love programs where they provide you with complete meal plans as there is no thinking involved  I find with food that there is too much choice and then I can't make a decision and it's the same with feeding my dogs.
  12. I should add that when I got my girl playing with toys it was fox tail toy too! Both my two got absolutely nuts over that kind of thing :)
  13. I don't think that all dogs naturally know how to play with toys. I think it is something that they learn from puppyhood. Having said that you can teach dogs to play with toys but it depends if you are that worried about it. When my first dog was a puppy I played alot with him and toys but with my girl I didn't do as much. She was much less interested in toys but I really wanted her to enjoy playing tug for agility training. I started by having a game with her before giving her dinner. Eventually she started getting excited for the game because she knew dinner came afterwards. It was a slow process but now she loves playing tug.
  14. Yeah my two put on a bit of weight too. But I much prefer that over them getting skinny & thinking they have been fretting & not eating.

  16. I went away for 5 weeks in Nov last year and left them with my brother and his girlfriend. One dog couldn't of cared less when I left but the other one knew straight away what was going on howled & whined and tried to grab my legs with her two front paws. I felt horrible and actually cried the whole way home!!! But by the next morning she was fine and having a ball. I was kept up to date with photos on Facebook and I could see that they were having fun. When I got home she was so excited to see me with a huge case of the zoomies then went and sat on the couch with my brother. My other dog didn't really care that much. Now when they see my bro and his gf they get so incredibly excited and absolutely love them and I'm sure they would be happy to stay with them again....it helps they get massively spoilt at their house :D Edited for spelling
  17. Yep I call my parents the dogs 'Mardi' and 'Pa' but it's because my mum started it They have grandkids from my older brother and my 'fur kids' get thrown in the same boat - they're all grandkids to mum and dad :D Goes without saying I call them my kids... every day I get home I say 'hi kids' and ask them if they love their mumma  PS. My mum even buys my dad and I birthday and Christmas cards from the dogs. They're ususally cards with similar looking dogs on the front
  18. Oh my lord he is damn cute. I hope the little tyke is feeling better soon. Wishing him all the healing vibes I can. And bless his cotton socks fainting when the put the catheter in.
  19. I was just thinking about starting a thread on this topic this morning. I'm sick of walking along with my boy happily beside me to be suddenly jerked backwards/sideways to a tree, bush, post, well anything really so my boy can mark it. It is so frustrating!!! This has been an uphill battle for me too. I have tried just walking and only letting him pee when I give a command but he will still jerk me towards this. How do you actually train them not to? He even 'phantom' marks inside.... he knows he isn't allowed to pee but he'll go up to everything and cock his leg and do his little back leg shuffle afterwards he just doesn't pee. I'm not even sure how to stop this as I can't watch him 24 hours a day. He's 6 years old and this has been going on for a while now.
  20. How old is your dog? If you have a youngish dog I would choose option 1. The one thing I wish I did with my two is have them stay at a variety of different places (ie. friends and families houses) for a few nights when they were young to get them used to changes in routine like this. That way I think as they get older they are better able to cope with these kinds of situations.
  21. So glad she's home Fran. I hope you made you Dad pick out all the prickles
  22. I have a list of requirements from here to China that I want in a breed I haven't found one to fit them all yet so thats why I have 2 rescues at the moment. But I'm so desperate to find that one breed that fits perfectly so I continue to look and be hopeful :D
  23. Every time I come into this thread and see these pics they make me laugh out loud
  24. Well the fireworks started here last night at about 8.45 and went on until about 1am. It was really just a bunch of bogans from different shacks with a 'mines bigger than yours mentality'. So annoying!! My girl Kiesha officially hates fireworks! I ended up putting on her thundershirt and sitting with her inside on the couch. At the start she barked, paced, trembled, panted and generally just freaked out. Eventually they went on for so long that she sort of got used to them and put herself to bed. They started again tonight and she barked abit, wasn't very happy but eventually sat with me on the couch & settled. Overall it was a horribly stressful situation and next year I will either have to find alternative arrangements for the dogs or get some Valium. I can't bear for her to go through that again.
