  1. Sounds to me like she needs to be taken to the vet with a urine sample just to be sure when the owners get home and that she needs to be socialised.
  2. HI Legacee Tony is back. His phone no. is (03) 9702 9027. He's very good
  3. That was a close call! Glad Major is OK!
  4. I thought we were being a bit smart with our Dane boy's name. He is Underane Playboy - a brindle. His mother was Portia so it was a 'P' litter. He is Tiga after Tiger Woods and was named about the time all the news came out of his indiscretions.
  5. Poor little boy! how painful for him. Sending healing vibes his way!
  6. Are they little water-filled blisters?
  7. I was just going to say that I bought some of the ID collars from Whelping supplies and they are very good. Much easier than what I did last time withribbons and braids. These have adjustable velcro so you can make them bigger as they grow and I'll be able to use them when I have my next litter in about 2 years time
  8. thanks guys! she's looking a lot better now and the swelling has gone down. I went to pick her up this morning but the vet told me to go home and bring the pups back in for a feed to clear everything out. they descended on her like a pack of locusts. Back home again now but have to ring at one to see if I can pick her up then. It's looking pretty good now. Hopefully there won't be any after effects. I just can't believe how quickly she went downhill when it happened!
  9. Just back from the vet but they've kept her there and are putting her on a drip. Hope to be able to pick her up later. She's very poorly!
  10. Thanks guys. We have a vet's appointment at 9.30, so will then bring her home and go down to the green grocers. Trouble is she won't lie on the side so that teat is available to the pups a couple of whom have extremely strong suction now. I can't believe it has happened so quickly!
  11. Help! My Dane bitch has a very swollen mammary gland and a temperature of 40.8. she is shivering a bit although it is quite warm here. I have been applying hot compresses and trying to express the milk manually but obviously it is quite painful. I'll go to the vet whenthey open but does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can do in the meantime? Pups are 8 days old.
  12. Sorry to hear about poor old Kuges Horts. You will know when the time is right but it is good to get all the logistical details settled first. Our old Saint Beatrice got to 13 and I had many times during her last 2 years when I thought that she would need to be PTS. she used to fall over and couldn't get up sometimes but we'd get her up and she'd toddle off. Other days I'd look at her and she'd give me a look that said she was still coping. Finally one weekend she became distressed as she developed a stomach upset and i knew it was time. the local vet wanted me to bring her in so I ended up getting her into the car and said my goodbyes to her with her head on my lap on the waiting room floor patting her and telling her how much she was loved and trying to reassure her. The man from the crematorium had to come and pick up her body as I don't know how the vet would have coped due to her size. I still have her ashes as i can't decide where to put them in case we move.
  13. I think Mother Moocher is right Rexiam! Our ShepherdX Dane Remy also tries to escape at every opportunity. Remy also suffers from separation anxiety but turns into a different dog when he gets out. Even though we have all these other dogs here he carries on if you go out for an hour or two as if you'd been away for weeks. Remy can jump over a six foot fence but we cured that by putting electric fencing around the back yard here and he only did it about 3 times after that. We never turn it on any more. The only thing I can suggest is making an addition to the top of the farm gate and angling it inwards so that he can't get over. It's a real worry when it happens. We have heard shotguns while Remy was away.
  14. My dogs haven't bloated- touch wood- but I believe that stress could be a factor in Great Danes anyway. I know a lot of Dane people that wouldn't put their dogs in a boarding kennel because they are afraid the dog would bloat if they left it there. I am also wondering about eating style. I have 1 that picks at his food and 2 gulpers. I also thought that it was more common in older dogs but have heard of puppies bloating as well.
