Purebred Is Best But What About Other Pets?
Kirty replied to Wilderblu's topic in General Dog Discussion
I believe all pet dogs and cats should be pedigree or rescues. I own three pedigree cats and one moggy, plus all the fosters. Other animals don't tend to have the same problems as cats and dogs (in terms of health but also in terms of over supply) but I believe rabbits. guinea pigs, rats and mice should also be bought from reg'd breeders. -
Mine don't park at anyone passing, but they can't see the street. They also don't fence fight, but we are surrounded by dogs that do. There is a dog down the street that has made a game of jumping up at the front fence, looking over, then spinning around. It could get over if it wanted to, but its obviously just a game. Still gives me a fright though!

Dog Limit Laws Coming In Australia Wide. Update Info
Kirty replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
FD26: Its actually perfectly safe and actually better for cats to be desexed before 3 months. Dogs are a different story though. :D We have the "2 dog" rule all over Victoria. -

Some people just won't learn until their dog is attacked or hit by a car. :D -

Poor boy. :D Thats why I won't use rat bait. Thats what it does to rats as well - dissolves their insides. :D Not to mention the risks for dogs and cats. I hope the gorgeous big boy is on the improve now. -

bindii, I am pretty sure Indigirl lives in woop-woop, so the vet surgery is probably unattended outside normal business hours. If that is the case, it is better off at home being watched anyway. -
My in-laws own a gorgeous 1yo desexed French Bulldog who is deaf. He was a gift to us from a breeder when I lived with my in-laws, and when my husband and I moved out, Louis stayed with them (he is too spoilt to hang outside during the day so he was better off with them!). They dote on him but he is feeling a bit lonely with no other dogs to play with anymore. They would love to offer another special-needs Frenchie a home, so if you hear of any, please let me know. They now have a soft spot for deaf dogs and have done really well with his training, so a deaf dog would be perfect. They are looking for something from a puppy up to about 2 years old. I think a desexed girl would be best but Louis is fine with male dogs, so a placid male would also be fine. Thanks!

He is so cute! I hope they find him soon.

I have no problem with that Steve, but if you read lilli's and jed's posts, they are saying they will not be involved.

We aren't going to get into a "Its not a pitbull" debate again, are we? The owner probably told the guy it was a pitbull before he beat him up.

The RSPCA is asking for submissions. Instead of sitting on here bitching, why doesn't everyone write up a 'better idea' and send it off. If all the reg'd breeders did this and demonstrated how passionate they were about animal welfare BUT also why some of the proposed plans are not suitable, then PERHAPS the RSPCA might be willing to listen and help. This is everyone's chance to help stop puppy farming but also protect reg'd breeders.

But would you want to train at a club with such rigid beliefs? I wouldn't.

Actually, assaults in the city make headlines a lot in Melbourne, because police are working very hard to curb violence in the city. Anyway, I also think its good that it points out how dangerous the OWNERS are.

Cool! Love the bougainvillea!

LOL!

Gawd. And this is why the breed is in trouble - because idiots like that get hold of them.
-
Not at all! When I have had purebreds in foster care I have sometimes googled names from the country of origin, but I certainly wouldn't limit my options to only 'native' names.

I think obedience schools should be open minded in regard to training tools. My dogs are very very different in their training needs. I trained both on a CC but one dog will work beautifully with a combo of food and praise and needs very little correction, whereas the other dog works better with corrections. If you praise him or offer him treats, he gets ridiculously excited and will not concentrate. If you offer 'gentle' praise (quiet "good boy") and fair corrections, he will work very nicely.

Oh no! This is such a sad shock. Rocco was an amazing dog and I loved looking at all the photos of he and Ralph. RIP big boy.

I thought it was totally RIDICULOUS that she was being encouraged to play with the snake (in the news footage I saw). They were holding it up for her and razzing her up to catch it. Absolute IDIOTS! Yep, teach your dog to play with snakes. SMART!!

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/100568...acking-woman-84 Pit bulls attack elderly woman, ambos Two pit bull dogs have attacked an 84-year-old woman as she watered her garden then turned on ambulance officers when they arrived to help. The woman suffered face, hand and leg injuries before she could reach the safety of her Glass House Mountains home and call an ambulance. When paramedics arrived, the dogs also attacked them. The paramedics called police who shot dead the older female dog and took the younger male to the council pound. "They're believed to be pit bulls or a pit bull cross but we are conducting tests to determine their breed," a Sunshine Coast Regional Council spokeswoman told AAP on Friday. The council is considering prosecuting the dogs' owner, who lives in the same street. The elderly woman was taken to Caloundra Hospital in a stable condition.

Sometimes people also like to make up breeds of dog or decide that their crossbreed dog is actually a really rare purebred (forgetting the minor detail that its not in Australia, etc).

Akc Compatability With Australian Register

Looking at those photos though, some of them don't seem quite right... I am certainly no poodle expert, but some of them had coats that seemed too wavy and soft compared to show poodles. And some of them just didn't look right! LOL! I guess these photos could have come from anywhere, but is there the quality/type in these colours that solid colours have?
