  1. Hello everyone! I'll be starting my certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via New England Institute (long distance TAFE) and there are a few books they have recommended but I would like to get anyone with experience and knowledge in the field to recommend some of their favourite books. Until I start I don't want to purchase all the books in case I don't need them all, I would love to but unless I can get them all second hand, some are quite pricey and I don't have the funds for that at the moment as I only work casual. Any suggestions welcome! :D Pictures of my darlings boys added because they're essential.
  2. *sigh* Does anyone have any experience with Nord countries? Specifically Finland for dog friendliness? I'll be attending the 2014 World Dog Show next year, and I've read pets are usually accepted in most hotels for a fee - the weather would be extreme during winters and most pets would have to live inside. I wish Australia cared as much as everywhere* else seems too. * not necessarily everywhere
  3. Dogs aren't very welcome in my little city, but I find it not uncommon to see them lying with owners at cafes, and I often take my boy to the outside seating area of McDonalds and treat him to a soft serve, everyone usually wants to say hello, including staff. Edited to add - I have actually googled the friendliest dog countries and cities, and in the USA there's a city (who's name has escaped me) that actually has a annual festival for dogs!
  4. Silver bullets are werewolves Jed! You'll need an axe!
  5. Hoorah for Dodge, I'd love to come back as your dog in another life, haha.
  6. Is Dodge your dog, or another foster!? :D I havent seen your thread "formerly guess the breed" be updated!
  7. Sorry to steer this a little off topic, but does anyone feel that dogs understand faking pain will result in cuddles and kisses?
  8. I too, could look at Lappies all day, maybe I'll see some Lapphund lovers from DOL in Helsinki for the 2014 World Dog Show? :)
  9. Oooooh! I love reptiles, I do want a snake, but as silly as it might sound I think they'd be too much work for me... I'd have to remember to feed them every few weeks/months, with the dogs it's an everyday thing, like clock work, and they let me know it if I forget, haha. I reallllllly love the dragons though. They're on my bucket list :)
  10. So I went away for a week while my FIL looked after the dogs, I've returned to find his mood has improved but he is still very underweight. At the last vet check he had gained 1kg but that's still no great improvement. He is alternating sore legs now and yesterday it was the front left, today the front right from what I can gather with palpating the area it seems to be in his wrist, there's no squealing or whining when I touch but he does stop panting and looks uncomfortable. He's nearly consumed his hills i/d - he's been having 3 smaller meals a day. Bruno is just fluctuating in mood and health so much I still worry... I think I want to get a second opinion, but I am a student and don't earn a lot of money, so I'd hate to go somewhere else for them to run the same tests and end up with the same conclusion at my expense, and at the expense of his health, I know it would be hard for him to recover in this heat well His dry retching is still prevalent, and quite often, I'm sure it's not bloat, I've studied the signs for bloat as best as I can and dry retching is the only symptom he is displaying for that illness.
  11. Which one is your clinic Steve? If you don't mind me asking, I hopefully will be getting into vet nursing in a few weeks and my passion is dogs also, all animals are amazing but hey... I am on DOL for a reason :p
  12. The smokey grey in the lapphunds is just blue :D
  13. I love my Bernese boys tri-colours. But I really love sables and agoutis, I'd love a wolf sable Anatolian for my next dog :)
  14. I love it, I wish i were closer to Canberra so I could go to this park with my baby. He'd love it!
  15. Pictures please, of everyone? Does Harper have a lighter left eye or is that just me? :)
  16. Thank you so much. I can't believe you remember him so well. Hopefully next year he can help me cross the line again, I'll get him dropped off on Tarcutta street so he doesn't have to walk as far. Haha
  17. He had a second test yesterday and it showed his pancreatitis is still prevalent, but slightly improved. He's seeming so depressed and sore lately. I have read that paracetamol is acceptable pain relief, definitely not ibuprofen. Would anyone be able to correct me, or help with a dosage amount? It just makes me so sad that he's so upset, and I've found out this week that I'm on a standby list for veterinary nursing in January, so if someone decides to not accept their offer to attend I may be selected instead, it's still a maybe, I do enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of my town, but there's so little here career wise I just want my Bruno to get better, does anyone know any dogs that took a really long time to recover from pancreatitis? Bruno has two antibiotics left, so that's tomorrow only. He's received Anaplex for the next seven days to assist recovery. If he hasn't improved greatly by his last cartrophen injection in 2 weeks then he's going to have an ultrasound to see how his pancreas looks.
