Thank you Leithy, I seem to have so many pictures of my family, and never tire of photographing them. Are you a dachshund lover/owner as well? Every time I am out walking my guys I am stopped just so that people can get a pat of my guys and tell me how much they like little dachs, or they have had one in the past, they aren't dogs that you see a great deal of, but mine sure get a lot of attention when I am out and about. Have you got any lovely pics of your guy/gal?????? cheers Cathaven.

Hello all, just thought I would display my little darlings whom give me so much love and pleasure. First is Ricky, 11yr old mini dach, he has CCF but is doing very well thanks to a lot of wonderful advice from people on DOL. He is a rescue, I rescued him from a breeder who was about to bump him on the head as he has a couple of physical abnormalities. Next is Austin Powers, new age sensitive 6yr old man that is very loving and easily hurt in feelings. Then we have Roxy Suede who is 8yrs of age and is a real sweetheart. Finally my little JR who is a rescue also, got her from the pound, no fur on her, just red raw with sores all over her. Her name is Miss Molly and every day I see new aspects of her beautiful gentle personality. So pleased she is in my home and has been for 4yrs now and she completes it. Please enjoy them as I do. I believe that nothing breaks your heart more than the loss of one's best friend. Please remember and I know it is hard during such painful times that BG will always remain with you, in heart and in spirit. You are both so blessed to have had each other and the unconditional love that you both shared. Say see you later.....BG, its not goodbye forever....I believe.

Sorry Bubbette, really don't know much about the disease either. All I am familiar with and as suggested beforehand as well as giving your pet four to six small high protein, fat and complex carbohydrates and low in sugar meals per day. If not able to be controlled by the diet, then sometimes cortisone tablets help. Hopefully your vet would be able to advise you on all this information. Surgery can also help, but this needs to be discussed with your vet. What your poor wee dog has is very uncommon, it is seen mostly in cats. cheers for now Cathaven

Hi RubyRed, I have a little mini dachshund 11yr old boy by the name of Ricky who has Congestive Heart Failure. He crashed last weekend with lungs full of fluid and needless to say I was beside myself. He had two days attached to an IV Lasix drip and I was very pleased to have him home. I can relate to how you are feeling. He is now on Fortekor, Vetmedin and Lasix. However and please don't think that I am encouraging you to do this because I am not. I am using hollistic medicine on Ricky. Apart from his conventional medicine I have him on CoenzymeQ10 Milk Thistle (brand Livatone) great for the liver, advised by another lovely lady who had a little dog with the same problem Heart Tonic x 3 (Robert McDowall or Optimum Pet Health both have great products and both here in Australia) Apple Cider Vinegar, teaspoon in his Natural Spring Water every day (replaces potassium lost through lasix). Pinch of Cayenne pepper as well as Organic Ginger great for circulation, I give this to him with a little bit of meat, 3 times a day 3 senior vitamin tablets per day (From vetalogica) 1 Fish oil tablet per day His diet is very important, organic beef, chicken, salmon with green steamed vegies. No tin food, or any treats that are found at the supermarket. Luckily he loves bananas. Most importantly no SALT. Read all the labels on all products that you buy for your little furfriend, you will be surprised how much sodium they contain. Hope this information helps cheers Cathaven

So sorry for your loss of Fraser. But please remember, he will be with you wherever you go and at all times, he will never leave your side. He will be protecting you, loving you, experiencing your pain, joining you in your joy, laughing with you and covering you in wet sloppy kisses, maybe not in person but most certainly in spirit. Thanks wherezaball for that info. I have just emailed the link that you provided in regard to vaccinations and will definetly be going via titer levels. Personally unless your furfriend is going into kennels I err on the side of caution with all these vaccinations......I also have a little 11yr old and will certainly not be getting him vaccinated. In fact I have a lovely old cat (rescued stray) that at some time had cat flu in his life and wasn't treated so has damaged mucous membranes. My vet actually recommended not to vaccinate him, rather dose him up on raw food and lysine, so I am pleased to say that my vet sees the big picture...... cheers Cathaven

Thanks Jed, yes I have Ricky on EnzymeQ10. I have also incorporated a pinch of cayenne pepper, which is a most important herb for the heart it increases circulation and feeds the heart cells. I have also added ginger, and I am just out now to get some organic parsley leaf (good diuretic). All under instructions from a health professional. She has even suggested watermelon as a diuretic, so will give that a go somehow or other, don't know about that one yet. Thanks dwynwen, how long has your girl been on coq10? Thank you for the info on the group, I really am into the I wouldn't say alternate but most certainly natural therapies. They have been around for a very long time and I do believe that they should be incorporated into our daily living, even with pets. Appreciate the warning. Talk to you soon I hope cheers Cathaven

Thanks, I am feeling much better tonight and yes you are quite right they do pick up the vibes. Because I am a lot more relaxed he appears to have gotten a new lease on life. The good thing is, is that he has not coughed at all today and he is drinking heaps as well as coming out the other end and I have started giving him 3 small meals a day (vet approved) and these meals are loaded with vegies/lean raw meat etc and he is really devouring into them. Yes giving him lots of cuddles. Back to the vet on Thursday........and of course all I am going to hear is a glowing report.... Thanks again, hope you are well. Will keep all informed

I know that the Animal Welfare League in Cairns offers reduced desexing fees to pensioners etc......you can also pay the fees off, which is brilliant. Well they did last year, lets hope that they still do. I know I know, Cairns is a long way to go, what I am getting at is that perhaps it might be worth ringing around various places...... cheers Cathaven

Thanks everyone for all your advice, I have been a very stressed out neurotic, worried, needy Mum of a beautiful little boy that I really don't want to let go of just yet. I guess you can understand how I feel. I will be sticking with all the vets meds, and as he has only just started on Vetmedin on Sunday am looking forward to the results. This has been a terrible time for us both. I am getting that way where I am getting very obsessive about it all and doing heaps of research whilst at the same time getting super stressed out. Your advice and encouragement has meant a lot. We go back to the vets on Thursday to see how he is doing. In the meantime I am going to try and enjoy each and everyday with him for as long as I have him. I am not getting him anything from America, way too expensive. Thank you all so much once again........ and if anyone can think of anything else I am open to suggestion....

Hi all, just seeking some information. My little 11yr mini dach has Congestive Cardiac Failure and has just had 24hrs at the vets on a lasix infusion as he got Pulmonary Oedema. I thought they were going to have to put me in hospital as well as I was a right mess. I know he is 11 but he is a young 11 and would like him around for a few more years yet, selfish I may seem I know, but just love him so much. Don't worry I wouldn't let him suffer, I'm realistic enough to realise that when he has to go he has to go.....anyway won't start or I'll be a basket case again. Anyway he is home on Vetmedin, Fortekor and Lasix and I have just been on line, and looking at a sight from America called Canine Heart Health, and it appears pretty impressive. I keep Ricky on a good raw meat diet with lots of vegies as well as Carnitine and Taurine and have a multivitamin/mineral compound coming which will also help. I also have him on a Heart Tonic from Robert McDowell in Dubbo. But what I was wondering is if anyone has ordered/used the tonics/rememdies from this organisation????? Does anyone know if I can get all these remedies here in Australia. Just to save a bit of money. Any advice is appreciated...... cheers Cathaven
