Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
KOE replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I hope she is fine Erny I should not read posts minus glasses. I would ensure that the vet checks her kidneys as vomiting and renal failure can go hand in hand. let us know what happens if she continues to do it or when you take her to the vet. -
Uncontrollable Urge To Pee. Stops On Vomit
KOE replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Erny Dont know about your dog but I have been fixed up and if I have a stomach upset and dry reach or vomit let me tell you the urge to pee is overpowering, so maybe with her the vomiting is using all the stomach muscles and relaxing the lower muscles. -
I go to physio once a week so I am going to ask the physio if she will look at Elka for me.
-
could you explain this a little more, will she be alright in terms of movement for playing and being a brat? The only thing that stopped her playing and being a brat is when I had her locked up but it made no difference by locking her up. I am taking her back for more bowen now I know for sure what it is well when all bloods come back anyway. she can run and jump like an idiot on 3 legs as well as 4, but I doubt she will have that beautiful show movement she had like when she went res in group at 6 months and 3 days. but doesnt matter as long as she is in no pain, and is my happy girl once again. cheers all

Hi how was the holiday She didnt go under anesthetic as such he gave her a heavy sedative, because of the previous problems. Well now she has to go again Feb sometime for hips and elbows but at least we know the elbows are great. My horse severed his tendon it was hanging by a needle fine bit took about 18 months but is ridable again.
-
Well after quite a few hundreds of dollars, both shoulders, elbows, ligaments and feet all xrayed, 1 shaved leg collapsed veins and a heavy sedative because she is a deep breather all is okay and it looks as though she has done the tendons, a complete blood work has been done as well, now it is a wait and see and if it gets worse she is to go back and will start a course of injections. It looks as though the muscle wastage is from no weight bearing on the right leg. I dare say my baby wont see a show ring again and that is sad, but she will still make a great pet, and she was so happy to be home. It is a relief because I was beginning to think she had the doggy version of muscular dystrophy, now waiting on blood results.
-
Wish Elka all the luck tomorrow as she will need it, she is going under anesthetic to see if she has torn ligaments and muscle wastage in the sholder, then to find out if it can be fixed. She puts no weight at all on her right front leg, and is very miserable and hates being caged. My baby is not 1 for another 3 weeks so please pray she will be fine.

Dont use the bedatine because it will stain especially if you show, I actually bought Woolworths homebrand woolwash and put 2 caps in the hydrobath for 3 GSD's and honestly no scratching. I usually wash these 3 in fido free itch but because they are itchy within a day I read somewhere about wool wash and thought might as well try it, but someone posted in the other thread that it is no good for the coats. I think it is trial and error and depends on the dog.
-
I used to wash Riley in malaseb twice weekly as he had a bad problem some sort of allegy, I also tried the bedatine but he was dark coated and it did relieve it for up to a week. It is really hot here and I have been washing mine the last 2 weeks in wool wash and all scratrching has stopped.
-
Going to sound strange but try washing them down with diluted betadine
-
Woolworths Homebrand Wool Wash about $1.90 for 2 litres.
-
Oliver Kim and Oliver say BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA  Their coats are also shiny
-
Oliver Kim and Elka have been real scratchers since it got really hot always itchy and scratching so today instead of Fidos I put 1 1/2 caps of homebrand wool wash in the hydrobath and washed them in that. They have not scratched all day.

Gsd With Exocrine Pancreatic Deficiency
KOE replied to gsds4me's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
With an EPI dog its most important to keep low protein & low fat, as these are the two things that the pancreas finds the hardest to digest. You always make the mix in a soup-like consistency, adding powdered animal pancreas enzymes (I use prescription 'Pancrezyme' brand) to each & every meal. Allow the enzymes to set for 15-30 min before serving. Do not substitute plant enzymes with animal pancreas enzymes as plant enzymes are not strong enough for an EPI dog. It's also important to feed many (3 or more) small meals a day rather then two or one big meal. Smaller meals are easier to digest. The following are foods & supplements recommended by a veterinarian. Basics are meat, potato & cottage cheese. Others can be added one at a time to test for reactions & for a change in taste for the dog. Foods (All foods need to be blended in the blender for easier digestion) White Rice, Potato's (White or Yam), Macaroni, Oatmeal, Corn Meal, Cream of Wheat, White cream of Rice (there is brown cream of rice but a holistic vet recommends the white) Yogurt (To keep down bacterial infection) Cottage Cheese Veggies *Pureed* (these should be introduced slowly, they need these for fiber. Fiber holds the food in the stomach longer allowing more time for digestion) Peas, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrots. Meat (Boiled & blended) Ground Turkey, Ground Beef, Ground Chicken, Fish Supplements B12 (up to 50 mg per day) B100 (1/4 capsule per day) (Use Wellness brand Phyto greens powder as this has the B's in it & other good things. This should be added slowly. The wellness is a much better brand then 'Missing Link'!) Calcium (500 mg capsule 2X a day) Milk Thistle (100-200mg capsule per day. This eases digestion) Blood tests should be taken every 6-12 months (for the rest of dogs life) to make sure enzyme & other levels are all normal. If feeding home cooked, keep a close watch on the dogs stools for any changes, report any changes to your vet a.s.a.p. Also keep a lookout for excessive drinking, as this could be a sign the disease has caused diabetes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Following meals suggested a these amounts are for eating for a whole day Cottage Cheese and Rice Diet 1 cup cottage cheese, 1% fat 5 3/4 cups cooked white rice 2 Hard boiled egg yolks, no whites 2 teaspoons bone meal Multivitamin as directed on label Now you can also omit the egg yolks and add 2 teaspoons Canola Oil instead. Everything else is the same. Chicken and Rice Diet 1 1/3 cup Chicken Breast Cooked (no skin) 5 3/4 cups cooked white rice 2 tsp Canola Oil 3/10 tsp Salt Multi Vitamin Again here you can also interchange the egg yolk as in above diet with the canola oil. Chicken and Potato Diet (this is still low fat, but we are increasing the protein) 2 cups Chicken Breast cooked no skin/fat 7 cups cooked potatoes with skin 2 tsp Canola Oil 2 tsp. Bone Meal Multi Vitamin You can omit the oil to make it even lower in fat if need be. Cottage Cheese and Potato Diet 2 Cups Cottage Cheese, 1 % 7 Cups Potatoes with Skin 2 tsp. Canola Oil 2 tsp Bome Meal Multi Vitamin Still waiting to hear from friend with dobe but found this for you -

Can Humans/dogs Pass Eachother Bugs/viruses
KOE replied to sugar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Be careful as if it is bactarial it can be transferred and who would have ever thought that birds and humans could get the same thing. The cause of diarrhoea may be a disease that can be transmitted to humans,Such disease's include campylobacter and salmonellaboth caused by bactaria. Commonsense hygiene precautions can reduce the cause of any zoonotic diseases being passed to yourself. -
Oh Rozzie that is so sad and today of all days please accept my sympathy and run free little darlin.

Correct management theory is the same but the practice is much different. It can be a lot harder to contain an entire dog, it can be a lot harder to have a well adjusted entire dog, etc etc Edit: Changed "is" to "can be" Totally agree, I had a vizsla who lived with 3 girls and prostrate cancer appeared at 3 years so chop was done and end of his show career. One sign of the same in Oliver and he gets the chop as well. A lot of pet owners can not manage their dogs properly and I would rather see a population of desexed dogs than maurading males anyday.
