You've just described Jenna exactly, which is why I ticked "other undesireable behaviour" too. I also ticked "No recall", which isn't strictly true. She has great recall, unless another dog is nearby. My "Really reliable recall" dvd arrived yesterday so I'm hoping to be able to achieve a better recall soon.
-
When we first got Jenna we tried covering her crate at night but she just played with the blanket and even, somehow, managed to pull it through the bars of her crate!!
-
Arrgghh Why didn't I read ALL the posts before I went off and ordered it. I don't think it is free anymore but it was cheaper than Dogwise. Oh well If it helps with Jenna's recall it would be worth 3 times the amount anyway. How is everyone getting on with the recall training. Can't wait for my DVD to arrive.

Another great link. Thank you so much. Aussie Shepherds are still looking pretty good :D As you say, hopefully the combination of lower average HD percentages AND a good breeder is the way to go

Wow!. They are stunning stunning dogs. What an absolutely gorgeous litter. Thank you for sharing. My daughters squeals of delight just got higher pitched with each picture

The way you have been treated is really really tragic. Why people are in this business if they are not a sympathetic kind of person is beyond me. When we lost our Labrador Holly earlier this year we used Pet Rest Cremations on the Sunshine Coast and they were wonderful. They let us know when they had received Holly, from the vets, and when the cremation would take place. Asked us if we would like a bit of Holly's fur kept and we got a lovely card with Holly's footprint in it and a lovely poem. All made me cry heaps at the time, and still does, but they were lovely, really made a very difficult time that bit easier for us.

Sorry but that beautiful dog will do it everytime oh and your user name is the same.. just spelled different ;) Yeh, there was alreay a Tkay here so I had to pick a different one. Not very different though eh? I can't be bothered with different names for different forums. Makes life too complicated

What gave me away? :)

I've actually just bathed Jenna this morning. The first time in mmmmmmm too long probably. She is such a Teflon dog, she never really looks dirty so I don't bother very often. She does smell lovely now though

Huskies and GSDs still have very different structure. Sibes are generally smaller too, bitches can be under 20kg and males shouldn't exceed 27kg. There would be more GSDs too, and not so many Sibes, with most Sibe breeders screening their dogs for HD even though it isn't very common in the breed. Sibes are generally known for being a breed with pretty good health. When bred properly they are a solid, compact and healthy dog. Sorry I didn't mean to directly compare the Sibe and the GSD as they are very different dogs as you have pointed out. It's just that the Siberian Husky jumped out at me as they did have a relatively large sample compared to the dogs around them on the list, and still came out very well.
-
I was surprised that the Siberian Husky was so low on the list. For the size of dog it is, I found this interesting and can't help but wonder why, when, say, the GSD is quite high. Is there a genetic reason why the husky is so low, does anyone know?

Thanks Poodlefan, that is an excellent link, very interesting. I was surprised the Labrador only had just over 12%, I always imagined it would be higher. More than 1 dog in 10 dysplastic ain't wonderful though. If ever there was a breed that needs to be kept lean and not over exercised as a pup, the Lab is one. Some of the pups I've seen lately look more like beef cattle than a dog bred to work all day retrieving. Yeh, when you put in that way it doesn't sound too good. Thought I would share a couple of pictures of my lovely Lab who sadly died in April, aged 5. We miss her very single day. As you can see she was not one of the porkers

Thanks Yep, spot on. Golden x Samoyed.

Thanks for that. I will definitely put them on my consider list. We won't be getting another dog till about the middle of next year so i will do my research

Thanks for the replies Guys. I can honestly say i had never considered a greyhound, not surewhy really, they are impressive dogs, I've just always had 'cuddlier' dogs. Do they still have to wear muzzles in public? Love the idea of an Aussie Shepherd very similar in size to my GRx and beautiful looking dogs. Will look into Koolies as I know very little about them. I like Pointers too, mmm lots to think about and research. Thanks again, there's always so much information on here. It's great

I wonder if someone could help me. I will shortly be looking for a companion for my golden retriever x and given her possible history of HD we want to try and avoid this problem this time round. I will be looking at a rescue or a pure breed from a reputable breeder but I know all the tests still do not mean a puppy will be safe from HD. We had a labrador who came from a registered breeder, parents had great hip scores but she still developed hip problems. Are there any medium - large breeds that do not tend to get HD. Thanks for any help

Great photos. The second one looks like he's saying "Does my bum look big in this"

What a sad sad story. Thank you so much for sharing and trying to help others at, what must be, a very difficult time for you. :D I also succumbed to purchasing a crossbreed before I was educated otherwise on a couple of dog forums. We are concerned about her hips as we have been contacted by other people who bought the same kind of dog from the same place and they are having severe trouble with their dogs hips/ knees. We are restricting her diet and exercise and she has had a preventative surgey done on her pelvis which we really hope will have done some good. Only time will tell. Take care and I hope you enjoy your new dog when you're ready.

Okay, might be a stoopid question but can someone please clarify. Is it all types of grass seed or is it only certain type of grass seed that are a problem. It's not something I've ever had a problem with. Thanks

Thanks everyone, I will try and find some obedience classes for her, anyone know of any good ones on the Sunshine Coast?
-
I wondered about the fear period as i had read about them but it seemed a funny age to get it. It's hard to know what to do for the best because if it is a fear period I should be protecting her from things which scare her but if it isn't, should I be exposing her to the stimuli more to get her used to it? She went to puppy school and I have been considering obedience classes but TBH I'm terrified she will be uncontollable there, with all those other dogs. Having said that I certainly want to do something so if obedience school would help I think I might give it a try. Cheers

Where's my gorgeous doggie gone? All of a sudden she is a nightmare with other dogs and children. She's not aggressive at all but, while we are on our walks, if any children approach her or if any dog comes near her she goes psycho. She looks like she is over excited, she leaps form side to side and backwards and forwards and is generally uncontrollable. If we just walk straight past a dog she isn't too bad but if we stop to talk she's all over the place. Having said that, once she has got it out of her system she will calm down. This started happening about a week ago. She is a Golden Retriever x Samoyed and is just over 5 months old, is this an age thing? Has anyone any advice about what steps I can take to stop her doing this? She's not so bad when she is off lead but at the moment have stopped letting her off as she is too unpredictable. This was probably why she didn't come when we were at the beach the other day . Any other people's dogs go through this stage? Some one has suggested it may be the Samoyed part of her. Is this usual behaviour in a Samoyed pup? Thanks

Fraser looks like an absolute darling. So sorry for your loss. We lost our Lab in April and I still miss her every day. Good luck with your new puppy when you feel ready to get one RIP Fraser Run free with My Holly
