  1. I look at it as saving water. If they lick the plates clean I don't have to rinse them before they go in the dishwasher. Just being environmentally conscious :D
  2. Next time, say this. Yep I agree. This is the kind of thing that happens to me and I wish I had said something. I guess I'm so stunned at the time it just doesn't occur to me. I did growl at a kid once in a playground. I had my dogs with me so I was a safe distance away (you're supposed to be 10m away) but I was watching very closely and when this kid (about 10 I would say) hit my 7 year old (not hard but never the less!) I put on my fiercest voice and growled "Don't you DARE hit him". Kid soon scarpered, no sign of parents anywhere
  3. Oh that sounds way too familiar :D
  4. Belated congratulations from me Ams. So excited for you. You so deserve this.
  5. Yes I think you're talking about invisible fencing which is different to an e-collar, usually less adjustable and more of a shock. Try a remote controlled e-collar - many of them are adjustable by less than 1% per increment and the level that my dog can feel, I can't feel and most people I have tried it on can't feel. I have felt it up to the highest level, the higher levels are like an electric fence type zap but I still wouldn't call it pain although definitely not pleasant. The levels most people use on dogs are more of an annoyance, almost a tickle. I know when I have tried it on Lola, she looks more like its a mild annoyance than a pain. With the invisible fences, I have had limited experience but it hasn't been positive so far and I personally would choose a plain electric fence that the dog can see, over the invisible fence. I met some people who had to put their dogs in the ute to take them through the front gate because the dogs were so fearful to go through due to the invisible fence system they had, which was a cheap one on ebay. I think quality does make a difference too and you would want something that is adjustable in level of stim to suit the dog its being used on. Oh right, I've never tried an e collar then (thankfully never needed one) I didn't realise they had different settings. That makes sense. :) Just to clarify the 'invisible fence' we have is in addition to a normal fence so she does have a visual barrier as well. It has been a godsend. :)
  6. Mya has an E collar to stop her from escaping. My hubby has accidentally been shocked by it when we were testing the fence and yes it does hurt. BUT if the alternative is being shot by the local farmer I would rather Mya be hurt for a split second (and it really did not take her long to learn with the training we followed too, I would say she has probably been shocked 4 or 5 times in 3 years) than lose her life. In all honesty though, to say the dog feels a 'vibration' is a bit of an understatement.
  7. You must feel like all your Christmases have come at once. So pleased for you all.
  8. I keep popping in here to see how your doggies are doing. Glad they are still ok. Fingers crossed the test results are all good.
  9. Unfortunately not, even when it is pointed out to them. In the case of my daughter's boyfriend's family "But the pet shop said they use reputable breeders and not puppy farms. I would never buy a puppy from one of those dreadful places" Some people refuse to be educated. They bury their head in the sand to justify their decision to buy that cute puppy in the window, even though a puppy they bought from that very same shop, a year ago, died of parvo, but that was ok because they refunded their money. Makes my blood boil.

    Atlas

Don't beat yourself up Teebs. You did all you could. You were not to know he would go downhill as fast as he did. Even the vet said he was ok to stay with you. If you'd have taken him in the vets the night before, you may not have been there when he passed. At least he was with the people he loved at the end. RIP Atlas. Hugs to you Teebs, it's a horrible pain when we lose our loved ones but in time the pain will ease.
  11. So sorry to hear this Esky. I truly hope you can take some comfort in the fact Penny was home and with the people she loved when she passed. RIP Penny. Run free
  12. Jenna and Luka gobble theirs up no problem but Mya is a very eater. I have to chop up the chews into quarters and put them into pieces of cheese. Mya does love cheese so we can usually manage to get the chews down that way. Good luck :)
  13. So sorry you and Penny are going through this, Esky.
  14. I know how much it hurts to lose one so young to a horrible disease. to you. Charlotte is pain free and running with the other angels over the bridge.
  15. Jenna 8 weeks, the day we brought her home Jenna at 3 months Jenna at 6 months Jenna 3 years
  16. Hi B. Please don't take the comments of some people on here personally it really is just that we are passionate and the health and well being of all dogs. Unfortunately some BYBs (as it appears the breeder where you got Sweep from) do not seem to care about the health and well being of the dogs they breed. I bought Jenna from what was probably a Puppy Farm. It was the wrong thing to do and I think a part of me realised it wasn't the best place to buy a puppy from (the internet) but i did not know about puppy farms. Had someone pointed the fact out to me when I was buying Jenna, in all honesty I probably would have gone ahead and bought her . I know that sounds dreadful but I'm being totally honest with myself. At that point I had already fallen in love with her. I suspect this is what has happened with you. Be honest, people will respect that. I have learnt all about the right way and the wrong way to buy a puppy now and I have Mya, a rescue, and Luka a purebred (with papers) Australian Shepherd. :D It is so nice to know that Luka has the best chance of a happy life thanks to the wonderful breeder who did the right thing. Although you do not want to hear what is being said on here, please try and see why people are posting what they are. Some people in hear devote their lives to doing the right thing by their breed and they are frustrated when so many people are not. You asked for advice and was told very clearly what to look for. You went ahead anyway. I think peoples frustartion is justified. Believe it or not though, they are a forgiving bunch and do have your dogs best interests at heart. If you can afford the DNA testing that should have been done to the parents, please get those done. At least you will have peace of mind. I know you love your dog and even of the results were bad, I'm sure you would do the right thing by him but if it were me I would want to know. Hope you undertand my rambling post becasue I really do understand your point of view as well and the other posters on this thread.
  17. Well I've been using a mild salt solution at the first sign of yellow gunk for 20 years with no ill effects. This is more serious than just yellow gunk though. Hope your boy gets some relief soon Latoya, poor boy must be very uncomfortable.
  18. I've always thought they get the yellow gunk with conjuntivitis. Same with my kids. As soon as i see the first sign I get out the salt and just bath the eye with boiled water with some salt in it, a couple of times a day. Usually clears it up but if you dogs eyes are that red that quick, I'm not sure it sounds like conjuntivitis. IME it takes longer to develop. Could be wrong though, it has been known
  19. She does have some good points but they get lost in all the other drivel. How on Earth is it unhygenic for a table next to someone with a dog on their lap. Why does it bother people if there are some who want to eat one handed whilst holding onto a dog in their lap. It's not the kind of thing i would do (i'd be flattened for a start) but surely if the dogs are on a person's lap then they cannot be bothering anyone else, unless they are yapping. Seriously people need to stop forcing their own bloody prejudices down other peoples throats. And HugL, I really can't see what your problem with people holding their dogs is. How, exactly does it affect you?
  20. I'm sure K9 Angel won't mind me posting these pics of Mya when she first rescued her. And now :)
  21. RIP Bailey, you didn't deserve this and neither did your family. Owey. My thoughts are with you and your family tonight. So so sad.
  22. Oh wow what stunning pictures of the cuties. Love the group puppy shot, and the ones with Bruno I sure, with photos like these, there will be no problem finding them suitable homes.
  23. Thanks for that. If it doesn't settle down over the next few days I will keep that in mind and of to the vets we go. It's definitely getting less severe so I'm hoping it was just the room spray.
  24. You've got me thinking now Ellz. I did spray some room smelly stuff on some artificial plants I have in the hallway. I'd forgotten about that. That could be it. I do hope that was all it was. Cheers :)
