And all the claims made add up to the premiums charged. With some added for administration , profits, and paying telemarketers like the guy who called me yesterday from that company! It's all in the figures. Whether or not it is worth it to an individual depends on circumstances and choice. Personally, I don't see any value in pet insurance. I'm intrigued by this statement. Do you insure your car? Insurance is there for an emergency, it's value is in the peace of mind it gives you that no matter how expensive a treatment option may be, you can make a decision purely on the interests of the dog, not your finances. That's why I have it anyway. Yes if you never make a claim you could consider it wasted money but that is the nature of insurance, no one has a crystal ball.

Yep I agree. Without is less distracting

Titre Testing Instead Of Annual Vaccinations.
teekay replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've just done this with Jenna and very pleased to hear she doesn't need her vaccinations this year. Vetpath in WA charge about $70 for the parvo and distemper test. Your vet can set up an account there and send off the blood samples interstate. Obviously they will charge for this but all up, it only cost me $100. If you have pet insurance it is worth checking with them that your dog will still be covered. Petplan said they would still cover if the vet agreed she didn't need the vaccs. -
I think it may be time for some more Melody pics. :D I need my beagle puppy fix

So I ended up going with my normal vets as they had already ordered the stuff from Vetpath and said they would match the Maroochydore vet's price. They have just rang and Jenna's levels are fine so she doesn't need the vaccinations this year Just wanted to point out though; I emailed a place called Animal Options Veterinary Clinic in Ormeau, QLD. By the time they replied I had already gone with my vet but it is worth mentioning they do the tests in house and I was quoted $70.70. The email does say that covers Parvo, Distemper and Hepatitis but I would want to double check the hepatitis part. Seems too good to be true. I have saved their email and will contact them when she is due next year.

Awwwwww she's a sweetie. I love beagles. Have admired them from afar for many years. Not sure they will ever be the breed for me but I just love meeting other peoples :D

Awwwwww she's gorgeous T. Love those ears :D

Sorry Bianca, don't worry. I gave them a call today. They quoted $100 all up. $70 for the test and $30 to do the blood draw. Sounds very reasonable. I think I will go ahead with them. Thanks again.

All I can say is you people must have big freezers  I pay $2 for 4 frames from Leonards (and they are much bigger than Woolies who charge close to $4 for 4 if your lucky ) 1/3 of a frame doesn't sound much for a 17kg dog though. Is that as a meal or just a treat? All mine get a whole one for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week and they're 16kgs, 18kgs, and 22 kgs.

Awww thanks Bianca, that's awesome. My vet is looking into it for me but I will see what price they each come up with. Can you remember how much you paid?

Has anyone used a vets on the sunshine coast who will do titre testing. I've just spoken to the receptionist at our vets (she's been there for as long as I have used them - 6 yearsish) and she had never heard of it. She is talking to the vets and getting back to me but just wondered if anyone had used one around here. Edited to clarify, I mean draws the bloods and send them away etc. Not actually do the test :)themselves Edited subtitle to include Gold Coast as per post #9

Well that would have given a truer picture of the Lost Dogs Home, that's for sure. I tried to watch it but I was just getting too angry. Knowing their stats and their ridiculous criteria that the dogs have to fulfil just to be given a chance, it's just too sad. I couldn't help but feel it was a load of propaganda to promote the LDH in the hope of more donations. Yes, I admit I am a biased. I find it hard to be unemotional about that place. I did notice in the little bit I saw that they said the puppies would be given a week then their fate was 'undecided'. We all know what that means. $12 million in the bank but they give a puppy a week! The don't even know what the words rescue means, if they did they would work with other rescues. Juice, I'm intrigued as to why you haven't read the threads on here. Not having a go at all but just interested. Is it too upsetting or are you just not interested? As I said I really am not having a go but considering the amount of donations they get I'm assuming the General Public are not aware of their exceptionally high kill rate but I was surprised that a doggie person would also not know.

I thought it was supposed to be Canada this week but just had a look and they are sending 2 people to The Lost Dogs Home in Melbourne Don't think I can face watching it Here is the blurb from LDH and I would like to point out I am definitely NOT a loyal supporter but I subscribe to the website so I can see what kind of propaganda they send out.

Fingers crossed for your little man. Hope he is feeling brighter soon.

Awww how adorable. I have a Luka too and his ears are so upsy daisy, they are hilarious. Maybe it's all in the name
-
Ooooooo I think i will give the banana a go too. We have recently had to spend $1600 on Luka as he had eaten a large amount of dirt which all compacted in his intestine The vets did do a blood test to see if there was a deficiency that was causing him to want to eat dirt, but everything was fine. It just tastes good, apparently I watch him like a hawk outside now but will give the banana a go.

Luka is an Australian Shepherd Kirislin. Funnily enough tlc, GayleK does have an Aussie from Tillsun, where Luka came from, but she looks nothing like Luka. I do think one of her others, Dusty I think it is, is a bit similar although from completely different lines. Love the sunlight streaming round the tree Kirislin, gorgeous.

Just gone back and had another look at the husky one. I see what you mean about the edges of the water Jo, something doesn't quite look right. Shame. I actually love the photo without the refection. Don't particularly like the Border Collie overall winner though.

Don't know if this helps but round here we have beaches that are off leash at certain times, usually 4pm - 8am. These are on leash beaches for the rest of the time. Not sure if that is how it works in Sydney though.

Thought I would share this link here. Some stunning photos. I particularly like the one of the Husky and reflection. Gorgeous. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2212291/Kennel-Club-Dog-Photographer-Year-Amazing-pictures-years-contest.html
