Sunshine coast council charge an application fee of $165 and like others have said, given all the information they ask about the 3rd dog you really have to already have it when you apply. The whole process from start to finish took about 3 months when I applied, which was ridiculous. I was terrified they would say no, really do not know what I would have done in that case. They did come and inspect the property before they granted permission and the license is only for my specific 3 dogs, and they did write to my neighbours, next door and over the road. The fee is a one off payment, though, and normal dog license fees apply each year.

What Is The Cheapest Quality Dry Food?
teekay replied to Pailin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Very happy with Optimum here. It's often on special at our local Pet barn too Minimum poo output and Luka is doing great on it. The other 2 are on Uncle Albers and have been for years, It's the only dry food my fussy Husky will touch. They do all get raw for breakfast though. -
I always hate opening these threads but very happy to see a positive result for Willow.

Awesome news Snook, you must have been walking on cloud nine. :D Well done Ziggy. Had my nightmare scenario yesterday, while out on a walk with Luka. We were walking round a small grassy area where we live. There is a little playground at the one end and I could hear children playing there. We went the other side and suddenly there was a lady walking 2 small dogs appeared in front of us. OK we did a quick turn which took us towards the playground. No too bad, I thought, Luka is a little anxious but usually easy to get his focus on me with people, we should be able to get past the playground without too much trouble. Uh oh, there's a dog there too. Turn back to go back the way we came hoping the 2 small dogs have got far enough away and, bloody hell, in comes flying an off leash cattle dog zooming round the park, followed by it's owner holding one of those ball throwing thingies. (This is NOT an off leash park) I'm just stood there behind a bush with Luka but he can hear the cattle dog. I'm thinking what the hell am I supposed to do now and then the family with the dog at the playground decide they are leaving and are coming this way. Had no choice but to wait til the ball was thrown over the other side of the park and then quickly get Luka out of there. Problem now is, I know where the playground dog lives and it is going to be behind us the whole way home. I decide to get a distance away from the park and then move to the other side of the road and let the dog go past, trying to distract Luka with treats. I guess it wasn't too bad, Luka was obviously anxious but there was no barking or lunging, just whining. Still upset me though. It's at times like that that I feel totally out of my depth. I was wondering about a thunder shirt. Has anyone tried one and had any success? Now the weather is cooler I may get one to see if there is any improvement -
Great shots and how awesome that you have that dam for them to play in. I keep getting funny looks from the family as I turn my laptop upside down.

You sound so much like my brother Ziggyboy, I had to check where you were located  My brother always has to feel like he has got a good deal, will barter on just about anything, drives me insane (well, used do, I no longer have anything to do with him) TBH your approach would probably have got my back up. Buying a puppy is not the same as buying a second hand car. It isn't about getting the best deal, it's about getting the best puppy for you and your situation. I suppose it depends on what other question you asked as well. If you asked all the appropriate question re health test, temperament of parents, exercise requirements etc AND asked about the cost etc that wouldn't have been so bad but of you ONLY asked about the costs it would have looked pretty bad. Either way, I would talk to the breeder if you still want a pup. Apologise for the confusion (This is not a time to be insiting you did nothing wrong) and move on from there. There are a number of threads on here about the best way to approach a breeder, what to put in initial emails etc. Maye do a search for those and try again. Good luck (Very curous about what breed you have decided to go for I have to admit :D )

I so know what you mean. When I felt ready I made a photo album of Holly, my beloved lab, which now sits on the bookshelf. It's coming up to 4 years now since we lost her and my eyes still well up when I look at it , although I am smiling at the memories too. :)

I missed this Lisa, what a gorgeous man Sam was. Gotta love a yellow lab. I am biased, my first dog was a lab :) The hurt will fade over time and you will be left with some awesome memories. That picture is so sweet. Take care

Thanks guys, I have watched a few (ok more than a few  ) you tube videos and I think I am a bit clearer on the BAT technique. We headed out on our walk and encountered a couple of off lead dogs at the park. It is a large enough park to be able to have enough distance between Luka and the others dogs so we did a few BAT sessions. Luka did great, he doesn't take long to turn round a look at me and then we walk the other way etc. We saw a couple of other dogs on the walk and utilised BAT then too. All good I was hyper aware of other dogs though. Concerned that we may get stuck between two dogs. What do you do if there is a dog infront of you and behind you for example? With the CC I would try a get a little distance between Luka and the other dogs ( up on someone's front yard probably) and treat Luka as they went past, which was working for us, but with the BAT I'm not sure what to do. Also to get home we had to pass 2 front yards with dogs barking and fence running. No way to get the distance for BAT to work . We HAVE to go past them to get home Unfortunately Luka went off, barking and lunging which is the first time he has done that for a few weeks so I'm feeling a bit I know it's because I am feeling a little lost. I understood the counter conditioning and it made sense and we seemed to be making progress but this new trainer thinks BAT will work better so I want to give it a go but it doesn't seem as straight forward as CC and I am scared I am doing it wrong. Corvus you said BAT was awesome for figuring out whether your dog is a frustrated greeter or wants other dogs to move away from them. Could you expand on that a little because I still do not know whether Luka is scared or over excited. Cheers Well done Staffyluv awesome that Zig is doing so well -

Luka and I went to see a new trainer/ behaviourist (not actually sure of the difference ) this morning. She runs a reward based training school that I want to join but we had a one on one to talk about Luka's reactivity first. We have been having moderate success with the counter conditioning but she recommends we change to BAT (behaviour adjustment training). Have any of you had success using BAT? After doing a search on here I found a few threads on it but not much. What does everyone think of it? To me it sounds like a gppd idea when scenarios are set up (we had a go with Luka and the trainer had her poodle. seemed to go well but the other dog was about 100 meters away) but difficult to set up that kind of thing on a daily walk basis. We will certainly give it a go though and we will be going to the fields where they do the training on Sundays to use that set up to practice, so will let you know how we go. Fingers crossed -
Have to say the advice on here is spot on Collie Chaos. I understand it may have been quite a shock when you dog went for the cat and it is easy to 'blame' the dog for the behaviour. I have 3 dogs. When I only had 2 everything was fine. Jenna knew that Mya was the dominant dog and I could feed them right next to each other no problems at all. Unfortunately Mya (the dominant one) is a slow eater but Jenna would finish hers and sloooooowly lie down facing away from Mya. She knew where she stood and all was good. Then we introduce the puppy who obviously didn't have a clue. I supervised mealtimes for a while but TBH it became just easier to feed Luka (the puppy) separately. Mya was on edge the whole time looking to see if Luka was approaching and, well, how would you like to eat knowing that there was someone hovering, waiting to steal your food? Think about what that could do to the longer term relationship between your cat and dog. By the looks of the pictures they have a great relationship, other than meal times, and you wouldn't want to jeopardise that, I'm sure. Luka is now 1 year old and the pecking order of the pack appears to be established so I can now feed them all together, under supervision. Luka will also just sit down when he has finished to wait for Mya to finish. However I do still tend to feed him separately because it just makes more sense. I understand there are certain problems where management is not the correct approach but in this case, the dogs are fed twice a day for a few minutes so that's not a biggie at all. I would point out that I think food aggression towards a human is a different matter entirely, but thankfully I have never had that problem.
