That's great. Do you know what your council rules are, regarding numbers?

I have three dogs ( Am secretly hankering for a fourth but I know I have to wait a few years :D ) Logistically I do not have a problem with three dogs. I do usually walk one separate to the other two but that is mainly because the one needs more one on one training at the moment. If you have obedient dogs, walking three is fine. The only thing I would mention is, you may need to apply to your council for permission to keep 3 dogs, especially as you say you are on a small block. Also depending on the time til your new home is built, is it a possibility that you could have to leave the rental property your in? (if the owner decides to sell or something), finding another landlord that will accept 3 dogs would be that much harder.

Jumping Into Raw - Advice Needed!
teekay replied to Lexi-Taj's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Could you please explain what is wrong with the stuff the OP feeds her adult dog? If you do not feed your dog any of the listed things. What do they eat? Ithought it was a pretty comprehensive list. -
Hahahaha Awesome

Is it usually about the same time each day? If it is it would probably support the empty tummy theory.

Thanks Alibi, yeah, I decided it wasn't worth the risk :)

Quick question. I left the dog's box (tupperware style) of kibble on the patio table today and by the time I noticed it had got pretty hot and there was quite a lot of condensation on the inside of the box. Do you think it is safe to eat or should I chuck it out? I know dogs can get salmonella from kibble so this is what worries me. TIA

What, exactly has it been used to treat? Just wondering. -
oops double post, stupid phones. :)

Yep, this is exactly what I did with my vet. I also got strange looks from the receptionist but the vet was very open to discussion and was quite happy set up the vetpath account. All up cost me just over $100

Great news that the bloods were clear Keeping everything crossed that Zig is fine from now on and you can put this all behind you.

No advice for poor Gus's tail but I am reading Fired up Frantic and Freaked out by Laura VanArendonk Baugh at the moment and working on teaching Luka to be calm. So far he is making some great progress using a mat which he is learning to lie calmly on in various situations. The book describes how to add distraction in very slow increments so it's really easy to follow. Maybe worth a read. Good luck

Oh no Staffyluv, poor Zig and poor you Hope you get some answers soon.

Having been a dog forum member for many years now, I know that you shouldn't let your dog run up to other dogs on lead at off leash areas. Problem is, I don't think the vast majority of the public realise this. All they think is, my dog is friendly and we come to the off leash area for a run around and for him to play with other dogs. With that in mind, I would never take a nervous or reactive dog to an off leash area while other dogs were present. It's not worth putting my dog in that situation. Now, being rushed by an off lead dog when we are in an on leash area? That makes my blood boil and happens all too frequently round by me

What Colour Do Your Dogs Eye's Shine At Night?
teekay replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
and?? Come on Mrs RB, don't tease us  -
I have recently discovered that not all dog's eyes shine the same colour when a light is shone on them at a night. I was walking my three the other night and my son drove past in his car. When he got home later he told me that as he drove past he notice that Jenna and Mya's eyes shine a light blue colour but Luka's eyes shine red. I put this to the test whe they were down the bottom of the garden and it's true. Luka's eyes are scary red - looks like a dog possessed  but the other's are definitely light bluey, white. I googled it and it seems that different dogs can have different colours reflected back at you at night. Even some breeds are known to have certain colours Linky: http://canidaepetfood.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/why-do-my-dogs-eyes-glow-in-dark.html What colour are your dog's eyes at night?

You know we are all picturing him doing that when he's fully grown, right?

So glad to hear Zig is home, safe and sound. The only time one of my dogs has done the frantic grass eating was when Mya mangaed to get a bloody green tree frog in her mouth I fished it out but she straight away frantically started eating the grass. She was literally grazing on it like a cow. I thought, she knows she needs to throw up so that is why she is doing it. Oddly enough she stopped as suddenly as she started and never threw up I still don't really know why she did it but thought I would mention it.

My boy dog has never humped his toys or bedding. My old Labrador Bitch though, used to hump her bed all the time.I used to think it very strange and still don't really understand why the girls do it.

Hugs Staffyluv, I really hope Ziggy is better in the morning. How scary for you. It does sound a bit similar to last time but much worse. I wondered about an allergic reaction to something. I thought symptoms could get more severe with each exposure?
-
That's strange Sheena. I actually threw one away last night because it had got too small and I had a sniff before I threw it out and it still didn't smell. It was probably about a year old. I do keep them dry though. When the dogs have finished chewing them I always put them away (but not in a container as that can make them smell), don't know if this could be why?

I guess the deers have dropped their antlers and places are getting them back in stock I can vouch for the antlers from dog treat australia and whelping supplies ( a fellow DOLer :) although it is worth pointng out the whelping supplies one say they are 'narrow', not sure what diameter they actually are). Both excellent quality. Do not know about the others but all seem to be pretty similar on price.

I gave one to Luka when he was a puppy Lisa. He loved it and still does. They are very hard so there is a small risk of a tooth breaking if you have a dog with a very strong bite. Not something that has happened to any of my three and certainly can't imagine a puppy doing it. They last months and don't smell or get yucky so I love them.

I know there were a number of people a while back, who wanted deer antlers and were finding everywhere had sold out. I have just noticed Dog Treats Australia have them back in stock. :) Linky: http://www.dogtreatsaustralia.com/categories/Dog-%26-Cat-Treats/
