Beautiful gapvic. I'm just starting out in photography but already I am noticing so many more things and thinking how beautiful they are and I must get my camera and come back.

Wow, Salukis are so regal looking. Very pretty girl. :) Do you get many people recognising her breed?

Just snapped this fella in the garden. Thankfully I spotted it before the dogs did. With them firmly shut inside I ventured out to get a shot :D 09/52 dragon by teejkay1, on Flickr ETA Am I right in thinking it's a lace monitor? I have no idea about lizards but did look them up and that is what he (or she :) ) looks like to me.

It certainly is early days Zarb and I agree with the others about not worrying too mauch about the clicker and enjoying your pup, although it sounds like you are :) With regard to recall, at this stage working on building your relationship is a great foundation for an awesome recall. If she thinks you (or other family members) are the provider of all things good she will be more likely to come to you. We played simple games like doggie tennis when Luka was small. Just have two of you (or more) and call her to you and have treats to give her ( or a toy to tug) and then ignore while the other person calls her excitedly to get her to come to them, treat/toy etc. If she doesn't know her name that well or isn't consistently coming it would be worth while using a different sound to call her to begin with, you don't want her to learn to ignore her name. We used an exctied "Pup pup pup" sound with Luka. I still use that occasionally if I want to distract him from something. Also, and I think a lot of people find this difficult but do not call her if you are not sure she will come. I read somewhere that unless you are prepared to bet $50 that she will come when called, first time, then don't call her. Get her attention some other way or go and get her. Again, this is so she never learns to ignore you calling her. You sound like you have a good idea about training her anyway so apologies if you already knew all this :) ETA. Snap Spotted devil, you posted while I was typing :D

Is this their reward or yours? :D

Hi Zarb and welcome :) Aussie's are usually very clued up and most love their food. How often are you doing the sessions and how long is each session? Short sessions often throughout the day usually work best. Also what treats are you using? Come over to the Aussie thread and introduce yourself, lots of Aussie nutters in there :D Warning though, we will expect photos :D http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/87106-aussie-pics/page__p__1464187__fromsearch__1#entry1464187

Hmmmmmm I'm always interested in learning more about anxiety and reactive dogs so i would only be going for that, I have no intention of seeing him for a consult. I have been working with Luka for a long time now and pretty much know what works and what doesn't for him. It's only $10 so might be worth it just to hear what he has to say, even if it's only to sit there and think "no way I'm doing that" lol

I haven't heard of this guy but someone has recommended going to this talk. Does anyone have any opinions/experience of him? poster for seminar March 2014.doc

Are they putting make up on the dog? Interesting subject :) Yup a dog show last week. All we have to do with the Iggies is wipe them over with a nappy wipe  although I did bath Neko the day before so she'd smell nice because she smelt like dead snails before. I can't believe that. Isn't that cheating...like making the dog's colouring different  Please excuse my obvious naivety around showing :D Have they shaved her bottom? What's with that? Looks very odd. Sorry OT.

At the risk of being flamed, I'm afraid I have to disagree. I think it was a poorly written article with some inaccuracies and a bit of scaremongering thrown in for good measure. Here is a response that also appeared on my FB page from Dogs Today magazine - a uk based page. I totally agree with what they have said. My concern is for the wellbeing and health of the dogs and how they are bred rather than what breed or crossbreed they are. We need to educate the public on how to buy a dog from an ethical, preferably registered, breeder who knows what they are doing and has the dogs best interest in mind. Plenty of puppy farmers beed pure breeds. They are in it for the money. They will breed what they can sell. ATM it may be designer crosses but it could just as easily be any purebreed out there. Another quote Everything right? What on earth is a dog birth certificate? And what, exactly did she ask about the puppy's parents? Not appropriate health tests I'm sure. So, innacuracies; It's a small point but Jeremy Clarkson does not have a designer dog. Richard Hammond does. and Earlier this month? Surely that quote is from a looong time ago. If you are going to write an article at least get your facts straight Talking about Labradoodles: What? I wasn't aware Labradors were notoriously stubborn? Mine certainly wasn't. Sorry, I find that statistic hard to believe. Really? This is in the UK so I wouldn't know if this was true but it would seem strange to me that The Kennel Club would approve any crossbreeding? I do agree with the some of the points made, espcially around how it is too easy to buy a dog off the internet and how hybrid vigour is a misnomer but overall I found the article annoying and confusing.

don't think Fern would persist, I'd have to cut a bigger hole into it  Can't be too hard, she needs an instant reward as soon as we walk out the door. I used to do this with Luka, when he was a puppy. I would just drill some kibble sized holes in the plastic bottle so they came out as he rolled it around.

Heartworm/worming Options For Naughty Adult Dogs
teekay replied to Little Gifts's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well, a bit of an update. Coincidentally I just had to worm my three. Luka is finishing up my supply of Interceptor spectrum chews. No problem with him :D Mya gets a Milbemax pill in a piece of sausage, no problem :D Jenna get s a Milbemax pill in a piece of sausage. Nup, tries to chew it a little bit then spits it out. This is the first time I have wormed them since the antibiotics and her memory is obviously better than I thought  I got it down though. Made the piece of sausage smaller and then just put it in her mouth to the side and as far back as I could and closed her mouth. She didn't protest too much and swallowed. not looking forward to the next time though. -

I'm another one that would, suggest trying Milbemax. Much smaller than the chewables which Mya does not like at all. They are way too big to hide in food so you have to chop them up small and then you have to struggle to get four doses down her. Also, do you regularly just give her treats stood in the same place you would give her her meds. I would be giving her a few treats each day in the kitchen or wherever you usually try to give her the meds and then maybe when it comes to giving her the pills she won't think anything is up especially if you couple it with a bit of training maybe? I've just had to give Jeena a long course of antibiotics and, boy, did they stink. It did become a bit of a struggle towards the end. Cheese would no longer cut it. I had to keep thinking of new stuff to hide it in, so I don't envy you :) -
What a wonderful life you had Kibah, run free My heart is heavy for you Kirislin, it is such a hard time when we say goodbye to our treasured ones. It sounds like you have some very happy memories of Kibah. In time the tears will fade and all that will be left is those happy memories..

That was hilarious. A man after my own heart, totally get where he is coming from

Well that didn't take long. The puppy has found a home. I hope it is a good one.

Awwwww poor Hank. I love the pink PJs, though I can thoroughly recommend the Comfy Cone. I got one for Luka before he was desexed and have just lent it to my sister for her guide dog puppy who has just been done. It is so much more comfortable than the hard plastic ones. It may be a bit late for Hank, although Luka's arrived the next day ( can't remember where I got it from though ) but I like having it just in case anyway, you never know when you might need one. Here's a link http://www.vetpharmacyonline.com.au/-comfy-cone-234/

Has Anyone Tried The Walkinsync?
teekay replied to RuralGSPs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I use a Sensible front attach harness which I am happy with but looking at the video of this one it does look comfier. I like the fact it is a way from the shoulders, but at nearly $80 to order for Australia I think, for now, I will stick with the Sensible. MIne don't pull anymore but I still like the security it gives me in case of any unforeseen cats darting out or whatever may make them suddenly lunge. Do you know if anywhere in Oz sells them? -
So, when it comes to animals dying in movies I am a complete sook, especially if it's dogs. Now I can watch films and relax  :D http://www.doesthedogdie.com/

Love that sunrise Weibritty. Fantastic capture of Athena with the balloon. The blue looks so vibrant. Love it. :-)

Can I ask what breed this pup is? Maybe someone on here could point you in the right direction of a reputable registered breeder. As has been pointed out $900 is a lot of money for byb pup. You may be surprised that a lot of purebred dogs do not cost that much or are thereabouts, depending on breed. Please heed the advice on here and walk away.
