  1. Thanks BC and Grumpette. She is just a cuddly as a pillow pet too :)
  2. Oh Ringer Looks cosy :) Love the Melbourne shot Weibritty, but looks cooooold :) Jenna is a reluctant model. She sees me with a camera and immediately walks off but managed to get a few today. She looks like a big ball of fluff in this one, or a pillow pet  31/52 IMG_0144.jpg by teejkay1, on Flickr
  3. Snap Khm, I was scared to come in here and see which of your beautiful big boofers was affected. So pleased Sumo has come through the surgery. Wishing Sumo a speedy recovery and you, a good night's sleep.
  4. Great news about Zeph, Gapvic. I was a bit worried about coming back in here to check how the operation went. Awesome news :)
  5. Oh I wasn't implying she was, I am just saying I don't believe PTS is always the better option. I didn't think we were talking about dogs that were severely abused, but dogs with behaviourial problems. Personally it would have to be an extreme case where I would feel the dog was suffering so much to the point where they would no longer want to live any more. This thread is about dogs with behavioural problems but I got the impression SGs comment was more in general.
  6. Well said Hankdog, I think it is something that most of us with reactive dogs will have thought about. If you have tried all other options and life is so stressful I do think PTS is a viable option but living with the guilt would be hard. I'm not saying anyone should feel guilty but I'm sure we would. The bolded bit is well thought out. I struggle with this because I just can't agree that death is 'far from the worst thing' that can happen to a dog. If we could ask the dog if it would prefer life, or death, how many do you really think would say 'I'd rather be dead please'? I understand why people choose PTS for dogs with behaviourial problems especially aggression, and I think especially in situations where there is a high risk that even with management the dog could hurt or kill a person or another dog or itself, PTS is an option that may need to be considered for the safety and well being of other people/animals. I am not in any way saying PTS is wrong or a bad choice, but I would struggle to accept it as the best option for the dog in every case. It is a horrible decision to have to make, and I feel for anyone in that position. I don't think SG was in any way saying pts was the "best option in every case" but when you consider the abuse some dogs go through then I would agree, death is not "the worst thing can happen to a dog". May depend on your thoughts around death I suppose.
  7. So many Snook. It's just so bloody unfair isn't it. I totally understand when you say it is soul destroying. I haven't got any advice for you but just wanted to say I totally understand how you feel. You should not have to be dealing with this. Is Justice on any kind of medication? If not, do you think it may help, even if only for awhile so you get a bit of a break
  8. So sorry. Lulusuki, sometimes our babies are just too broken and no amount of love can fix them. Be kind to yourself
  9. Little bit late this week :) Mya's turn to model this week :) 30/52 IMG_0049.jpg by teejkay1, on Flickr
  10. It is very true that different dogs within a breed will be very different. My Aussie is on the small size, about 22kgs, and his coat is not very thick. Not sure if living in Qld has anything to do with this though. Luka does not shed much at all. Mind you, I have a husky so my expereince with 'shedding' is slightly skewed  Don't make the misatke I did many years ago though. I thought I would get a short haired dog becasue they wouldn't shed as much. I got a Labrador, nuff said
  11. I don't have much breed advice but um, I really don't know how true this is. I think as a whole the Australian Shepherd is a fairly healthy breed and I haven't heard of many serious health issues with NBTs. My girl is a NBT so if this is true can someone please PM me cause I'd like to know more! I know merle to merle breedings can produce serious health issues but have not heard that about NBTs??? As a side note, my Aussie shepherd sheds a LOT. Especially during seasonal coat blows, holy mackerel. You may want to consider that aspect if you are seriously thinking about an Aussie. Just to clarify, as far as I am aware, the only problem with NBTs is possibly when they are an embryo. A dog born with an NBT is at no greater risk of problems than one born with a full tail. I think some of the confusion comes from the health problem in Manx cats. Aussie NBTs are just as healthy as their fully tailed counter parts. Here is a link explaining in more detail http://www.animalnetwork.com.au/tests/index.php?testid=14
  12. I have only recently realised I have a habit of saying "Whatcha doing Luka/Jenna/Mya?" Even though the answer, if they could give one, would most of the time, be "Just sitting here" I must say it 20 odd times a day
  13. Certainly preferable to the Norfolk coast, where we spent our last 5 years before moving here. Sea is lovely shade of brown over there
  14. Handsome as always. Flynn & Kelly, and the cat :)
  15. And the water was a darn site colder too. We used to Holiday at Aberdovey for many years. Don't think I ever actually ventured in past my waist
  16. Oh, I LOVE hearing the comments. I just try not to look like I do He is a big cuddly puppy. I'm sure he gets sick of me walking up to him and hugging him. He gives me a sort of "Mum...really?" look.  yeah I know what you mean :)
  17. He's gorgeous Snippy. Sammies look soooooo cuddly. I still love hearing the comments when I walk my two white fluffies. Poor Luka never gets a look in. Not that he cares, he doesn't like strangers any way :D
  18. Awwwwwww that is so gorgeous juice
  19. That is awesome news Snippy. A great result Now, about those photos............................... :p
  20. Wow, look at the colour of that water. Great waves. Great photos
  21. Oh Gapvic ,that is so sad. It's so awful to see our dogs deteriorate. Hugs to you and gentle pats for Zephr.
  22. Awesome shots Leanne. I adore the fourth one of the first set, with the little wooden walkway. Very nice
  23. Thanks for sharing this cavNrott. I was a bit concerned by their wording. They state they will pay "up to 80% of vet fees" . I wondered what the 'up to' bit meant but I am guessing, given your experience, that is what they do with a condition you have claimed for, maybe.
  24. Wow, Raineth. Digby sure has left you some terrific memories. What a great photo of a beautiful dog
  25. Interesting. i just did a quote for each of my dogs for comparison and got the following Bow wow Jenna, Samoyed x GR, 6 Yrs. $51.22/month Mya, husky, 7 yrs $54.21/month Luka, Australian Shepherd, 2 yrs, $31.81/month Would get 10% off all these figures for multiple policy discount Pet Plan Jenna $58.34/month Mya $64.01/month Luka $65.93/month Again a 10% multiple policy discount applies. How interesting that Petplan have a high rate associated with the Australian Shepherd but Bow wow obviously deem them a lower risk and have a significantly lower rate. It's definitely looking like it is worth changing Luka over. Jenna isn't that different $7 more, and I can't change her anyway because of the eye thing, and Mya? $10 more a month for 100% cover and coverage of all diseases including parvo etc. Will probably stick with PP for her too but I am shocked at Luka's difference, That's a significant saving. The only problem with him is we claimed when he was a puppy and he ate a ton of dirt. I would have to check if ingestion of foreign objects etc would be excluded. Food for thought, Thanks Kdf.
