  1. Sorry Gruflife, but if you had read a fraction of what goes on in that place you would not be wondering why people are getting so upset about it. Obviously every one would like people to be more responsible when buying their pets and look after them for life but that is not what this is about. This is about people who are entrusted to 'look after' the animals in the care, doing the exact opposite. This is about the animals. They may have had the misfortune of having crappy owners but they do not deserve what happens to them in there. I beg to differ teekay... Gruf has a very valid point there... If more effort went into reducing the easy "turnover" of pets, then maybe shelters would be less crowded and therefore be able to do more about their rehoming rates. Pounds and shelters are only in existence because people let their animals end up there - for whatever reason - and the space in pounds/shelters is actually finite... Releasing animals to rescue is not the solution to the initial problem - it's a fallback for an untenable position. T. You misunderstand me, I am not saying something should not be done about educating the public to try and reduce the number of dumped pets. It's a disgrace. What I am saying is right here and now there are a handful of people, who are supposed to be in the business of caring for animals, getting away with cruelty and that is why there is such an outrage. The way the LDH is run can be changed and soon, the problem of irresponsible ownership is massive and will not change in the near future. I guess I feel we need to pick our battles right now and I do not want to hear about one more dog unnecessarily euthed willy nilly or one more litter of puppies destroyed because they were too much work. Ranting about the irresponsible owners will not save the dogs that are there right now and that is what this thread is about.

  3. Some absolutely horrific stories are coming from ex workers at that God forsaken place. I really hope the investigation is a thorough one and people are held accountable for the cruelty that has gone on there.
  4. A guy on a photography Fb group I belong to knows the owners of these cars so he has shared this photo with them, giving credit to me :) They really like it, especially the R8 owner because he says it looks like he's winning :D I'm angling for a trip round the track in one next time :)
  5. Bit different for me. I went to a track day this weekend with my son. You take your own car and race round a track. First attempt at fast moving cars. Goodness it's difficult :) it was 40+ degrees just to make things more challenging Hard to pick a favourite. I have more on Flickr if anyone wants a look but I think I'll go with this one. My favourite car, a Mclaren MP4 and an Audi R8 just as the sun was going down at the end of the day 03/52 Audi Vs McLaren by teejkay1, on Flickr
  6. So sorry about Bella, Helen, they are never here long enough Love the pic of Tilly though, beautiful colours. Love the little baby birds Ranga. Getting "the shot" is always worth burning the dinner Grumpette  Took a trip up to Noosa the other day and found this wonderful view 03/52 Laguna Lookout, Noosa by teejkay1, on Flickr
  7. Hahaha, love the hovering butt shot in the first post :D
  8. Ok just done a bit of Googling. It's a bit clearer now, if anyone else is confused by this, here is a link to a video I just watched. Most of it made sense to me :) I love taking photos and the end result but I must admit the technological side of things is way over my head. 9. Ok Lightroom experts out there I'm a little confused. My lightroom is set to back up the catalog every time I exit. I don't always do it, it depends what I have been doing that particular time. The 'catalog' is not a very big file and my OH informs me that this will not actually contain the photos themselves. So I'm confused as to what's the point. I want to save everything so that if my hard drives takes a dive I can retrieve all my photos. Is this not what the catalog back up is for? Heeeeeeeeelp pleeeeeeeease :)
  10. Haha, I thought the one on the left was a tree trunk at first glance Ranga. Looks like they're having a good ole stretch. :)
  11. A friend of mine gives her dogs whole coconuts, I think she said she uses a grater to get most of the husk off.
  12. The colour in that smoky sky Marg, are stunning. Nature has a way of being beautiful even when so deadly Visited my sister and her guide dog puppy in training. What a cutie pie he is, but he did not want his photo taken  I managed to sneak this one 02/52 IMG_0355.jpg by teejkay1, on Flickr
  13. Can we have rolly eye man back yet? I don't even know where to start on this BS. I am unclear about which bit you think is bullshit Steph. Do people think it appropriate he had, apparently, left the property to fight the fires leaving his 16 year old daughter in charge? Imo he should never have left his daughter, regardless of the animals. This info may not be correct, I am just commenting on what's been said here. More that this person is "following up on lines of enquiry" and griding that axe real hard. If the guy was fighting a fire elsewhere and the roads closed on him, I'm not sure what Labradore expects him to have done? I highly doubt half of what has been said here and on facebook is fact, and it bugs me its being taken as gospel and speculated on as such. Its like vultures picking over disaster, who benefits if fault is found with the owners? People are gung ho finding things to pick at and frankly its a terrible loss for everyone, I'd like to leave it be and let it work itself out. The Facebook jury does more harm than good. I'm sure there will be an investigation by proper means in due course. All the speculation is doing in the mean time is making life miserable for kennel owners, pet owners and making it harder for them all to get back on their feet when its all done. I feel for everyone but most of all the pets, those who didn't make it and those who did. Just awful, I'd rather spend my energy wishing peace to those who didnt make it out and a speedy recovery to those who did. Ok, I get what you mean now but with regard to him "fighting fires elsewhere", imo he shouldn't have been, not if that meant leaving the animals and potentially his 16 year old daughter at risk. But I do appreciate this may not be the case, as you say, social media is not known for accurate facts. ETA Snap Jed :)

  15. Lol Tay, love it, and can relate :)
  16. Great start from everyone Finch is adorable Kirty. Thought I'd make my first post topical. Happy New Year fellow 52 weekers :D Taken last night at the New Year festivities. My first attempt at fireworks. 01/52 IMG_0337.jpg by teejkay1, on Flickr
  17. Funny. I was thinking about Starhere's post and decided a couple of panels at right angles to the fence would be a good idea. Enough to interrupt the running but not hurt him. I will give that a try, in conjunction with the training to ignore. :)
  18. Thanks Rebanne, I may resort to some kind of fence to prevent him getting too close to the actual fence line but I dont think that is going to prevent him from barking back at the puppy and this is what I really want to try and stop before it gets established. I've worked so hard to get him to stop him from barking at the people so it'd be a shame to go backwards. I've just done a training session out in the garden while the puppy was out with a squeaky toy. Luka would look that way but I managed to get his attention and did some simple agility foundation stuff. At least I have lots of left over turkey for treats  I'll keep at it :) Eta I think I will pop him on a long line for nighttime wees too
  19. So, my next door neighbours appear to have got a puppy over the Christmas break. They have had it for a couple of weeks now. Unfortunately they do not seem to be paying it much attention and it is constantly being left to it's own devices in the back yard. Problem is, it seems to be a barker. It's only a fairly quiet yap at the moment but I am worried that will change as it gets older. Anyway, may main concern is, i do not want my three joining in with the barking. Tbh Mya isn't a problem, she just ignores it. Jenna will give an occasional woof but Luka is the one I am most worried about because he can be prone to barking. I have worked on diminishing this and he has been fine with the people when they are in the back yard (even though they have built up the level of their garden so they are head and shoulders above the fence line ) but the first I knew about this puppy was because Luka was barking in the garden and I went to check out what he was barking at. So far I have tried sitting out there and treating him when the puppy barks and that's fine but I can't really sit out there all day! The past couple of nights, though, I have noticed when I let Luka out for his nighttime wee he is bolting over to the fence and running up and down the fence line with the puppy barking the other side. Luka hasn't actually been barking too much but I do not like this fence running. He is also ignoring me when I call him in which is not good at all. He was so good at coming when called before this puppy arrived. So I'm after any advice to hopefully train him to ignore the puppy. Please tell me it's possible
  20. Yep, I'm mortified if I don't have enough bags. I will always go back and get the offending poop but as I walk away I feel like I need to carry a big sign saying "I'll be back" I did once use the bag that some free newspaper had come in. It was on the lawn and it wasn't raining so I took the newspaper out and used that. Any port in a storm :D
  21. I did have a photo in mind for my Christmas week entry but there is no way I am going to have time to do it ( I'll save it for 51/15. Oooooooo that's a palindrome with numbers  ) So I'm cheating slightly and using another shot I took last week of my son and the tree :) 51/14 IMG_0103.jpg by teejkay1, on Flickr Merry Christmas fellow posters, may your Christmas be all that you want it to be. Remember not too much of this as it may lead to this Which is all good fun...................................................... until you end up like this I look forward to catching up in the new thread next year.
  22. Yep me too Marg. Mine ran around like loons after their wash yesterday and got covered in grass cuttings because I'd only mowed the day before. At least that brushes off once they're dry :D I swear I can hear them muttering "Gotta get this clean off me, yuck"
  23. Great advice TSD, I was about to post something very similar
  24. Wow Stessmagnet, as someone else said, I think you did well to only give them the finger. How scary for you and how sad that the police are so busy with worse criminals that these kind of low life can get away with threatening people just trying to have a nice stroll on the beach. :( This thread has also made me realise how lucky I am to live in the area I do.
