Aw, ripper - FREE backyard-bred pitbulls! The perfect dog for a boofhead who knows nothing about the breed but wants a muscle dog status symbol. I look forward to meeting these poor dogs at the pound where they will inevitably end up, sooner or later.

What exactly is your point about pitbulls, Moselle? You seem to have done a complete backflip from your starting position.

There are people much better qualified than me to defend pitbulls but really Moselle, you should get a grip. I interpreted Michael Linke's comment as meanng it could have been any breed of dog that attacked the Malt - ie don't single out pitbulls when the actual breed is far from certain. He wasn't necessarily or particularly pointing the finger at those other breeds. All dogs types irrespective of breed have the potential to be dog aggressive. Two years ago I inherited my sister's cute, fluffy, white pet shop dog - with unfamiliar dogs it's the stroppiest, most agressive mongrel I've ever encountered. Oh and I have met at least 30 pit bulls during my time as a volunteer at Canberra Dog Pound. With two exceptions they were delightful and certainly no worse or better than any other breed of dog in terms of aggression to other dogs they encountered there.

Thnaks Mita. She also said it's a children's book - apparently she based the Tumbeltown Dog Pound on her experiences as a volunteer at the Wingeecaribee Animal Shelter in the southern highlands. And even though the Tumbletown shelter is located behind the town dump and is a very grim place, she was at pains to point out that the Wingeecaribee Shelter is well run with good and compassionate staff. There are lots of baddies in the book though, based on some of the dodgy types whose wretched dogs end up in pounds. Many pound volunteers will have experienced those types - I know I have! Just heard a plug for an item on pound dogs on Life Matters on ABC Radio National. Not sure of the angle - hope this isn't a bum steer! In Canberra RN is 846 on the AM dial. Sorry I don't know all the others, although Sydney is lower down the AM dial. If you miss it, the program is repeated around 8 or 9pm tonight EST. It's only one segment among a number of others, not the whole program. I'll report back if it's worth tuning in tonight for those miss it this morning.

Maybe it's like that phenomenon where water birds instinctively know when the inland waterways are flooded and they flock there to nest - waif and stray huskies instinctively head to k9A's place - their home away from home! Yep, and Canberra pound currently, which is in two-week lockdown. With our weather extremes it's incredible that the virus can thrive in both sub-zero temperatures and relentless heat.

I'm a pound volunteer and I would estimate that over 90 percent of the dogs we get in as strays are undesexed adult dogs. It's an instinct to go looking for love. You will be doing your boy a favour by having him desexed, especially at a young age. Don't fret, he'll be over it in no time - as soon as the anaesthetic wears off!

Is no one being charged over Baby's cigarette burn? This is just awful Tilly. And given how thick and irresponsible Jane and Jack are, it's no surprise there is now a puppy in the picture. What a pair of dopey, stupid, selfish, immature dropkicks. I want to kick them so hard in the clacker they will see stars. Poor little baby. Poor little puppy.

There is much to be said for compulsory desexing. And I don't just mean of dogs!

Thirteen of DAS's 33 current dogs are RSPCA transferees. Two of them are among those that will be out down this morning because they have done their time.

Agree 100 per cent, Dog Geek. I sent an email to Stateline after the program. My final remark was: "While the RSPCA does good work with rehoming, its constant refrain about its virtually non-existent euthanasia rate is disingenuous when it merely transfers responsibility elsewhere."

Good points, Kelly-Louise. And the nerve of them expecting the public to finance surgery! Are they pretending they do rescue now?!

Thanks for the link Beaglelover. It certainly took me through a range of emotions as I watched. There's a clip called "I Am A Staffie" made by a UK staffy group that has similar sentiments, although it's less graphic.

Just lovely Cazstaff - thank you for sharing. The oldies are so special. Can't imagine how you manage to have such a great backyard with all those dogs - mine looks the aftermath of a nuclear explosion with just two!

I am being quite serious when I say think this woman is mentally ill, as there is no other explanation for her very odd behaviour. Hard though it is when she is both a thief and a nuisance, I think we should feel sorry for her. But having said that, I do agree that the threatening message should be reported to the police. Most people with a mental illness are harmless and many lead productive lives but when threats are made, don't mess around - report it.
