  1. I HATE SPIDERS Especially since being bitten on the foot in Far Nth Qld putting washing on the line at the sensible hour of midnight, after it bit me i tried to dislodge it with my other foot and all it did was bite me again and again....ahhhhh now i'm screaming Blue murder enought to wake the neighbours to look over the fence I was too scared to walk over the grass to get back inside I WAS PETRIFIED... the thought of being attacked again finally made me move. The next night similar spider was seen throught the glass door attacking the tassles on the outside mat. My Goldie slept with me after that.I ended up with servere neck stiffness..like whiplash... I HATE SPIDERS
  2. I had a major problem with my 16 wk pup eating his food too fast and guarding his bowl not growling but looking intently at it. but I think he feels less pressure to eat everything fas It was suggested to feed him out of sight and alone... he now eats at leisure and is alot slower.. he still has to wait for his food ect but now I feed and leave and collect his bowl when he's finished.
  3. I'm glad I took this advice... saved heaps on vet bill because I treated the cause not the symptoms
  4. never thought of reducing the size..lol currently I'm using some of his dry food, pieces of cheese cut small for extra incentive any left over cold meat cuts( ckicken lamb steak ect) Like most dogs here on DOL he eats better than most I should measure out his evening meal into a container and take the treats out of that then I'll know how much he's had..... Why does it take someone to point out the obvious before it seems logical...
  5. I have FINALLY got the hang of training my Bull Terrier Miniature and his stomach rules the training My question is what does everyone use for training treats.. I don't want to cut down his training and have cut back his meals but still seems to be gaining a little more than I'd like. Is there such a thing as low cal treats for dogs that don't contribute too much to his daily food allowance.. Any thoughts would be appreciated
  6. I asked my vet this question last week and the response was..quote " If they are desexed before the start to cock thier leg, they probably never will.. otherwise it might be up to 2 years"..... It looks funny I have both dogs outside for a Pee Stop the Bull Terrier Entire male pup squats and the desexed Male Chi(1.8kgs) Lifts his leg..
  7. Bought it .... Use it... LOVE IT Lucky I went to buy something to brush the Permanently shedding long haired "Putty Tat" Furminator was recommended AND on half price special Was really surprised it worked on such a short coat ..Bull Terrier Miniature..he doesn't mind it either
  8. We did the same, gate across the laundry door and a scratch pole with a platform on the laundry side with the platform positioned over the gate that our fat cat jumps onto, then it has a platform lower to the ground ....... she copes really well and the litter and her food is safe from scrounging puppies Bought the scratch pole from Reject shop around $35
  9. Love Theo "Theodore" Maybe look at a few Westerns Thay have Macho short names Good Luck
  10. Hi all, Just jumping in to say two sleeps til our first show just a bit excited!!!
  11. So I see .............ummm there's the show trolley (swore I'd never need one)!! The gazebo....... (if I can muster a helper) maybe I can pay the teen sleeper that occasionally surfaces Now the blunt end grooming scissors, new chair, smaller esky, number holder... ahhhhhhhhhhhh I NEED IT !!!!! I can hear echos of my inner child!!!!
  12. Just listening in on your clothing conversations! I had no idea things would get this indepth I guess I should think dark pants as my boy is a lighter colour, thanks for you help even if you didn't know you were. Now I know how clueless I looked when I said to an exhibitor at a show I was looking at " I'm just going to do it for a hobby, It's not like it costs a lot when you are not that serious "
  13. We are out west so for us it will be Carcoar, when the baby brat grows up a bit we will come in a few times to sydney... I don't see any point travelling 4hrs when we don't get points yet but definitly want to see whats out there later and see how he goes
  14. Congratulations!!!! I think everyone runs funny when you are trying to get a puppy around without it having a tantrum Thanks for the help, we are all set for our first show at the end of the month, just thinking about shade options, I was going to get an umbrella but having a rethink because a gazebo gives more shade and protection from the elements, but I think it would be had to manage solo...hmmmm .........any thoughts? At the moment Quatro stacks himself well ... til we get in the ring and of course he'll roll around biting the leash :D
  15. Thanks... I was just getting some nerves out!! I thought the judges would go a little easy on the newbies, Have a Q? Should I tell them it's my first show when I get in the ring for the first time , or will they guess judging by the scared out of my wits expression! But seriously I am soo looking forward to begining...
  16. Hi everyone!!! I have to get this out We will attend our first show at the end of the month and now I have butterflies... I am a TOTAL novice but have a little help from some locals and feel really unprepared but soooooo excited!! I have a great Miniture Bull Terrier Baby... totally biased opinion( really one of those faces only a mother could love) I hope the judges don't expect too much of us we are quite the bumbling pair!!!
  17. What a light bulb moment!!! I never thought of it that way before.....hmmmm I hope that having him in a puppy pen will help, he whines to get out and before he is allowed play time loose he is taken out to the puppy loo with SUPER praise when he goes.... fingers crossed....
  18. thanks.... it just gets you down when you think you are doing everything right and you still fail On the up side we created a little run off his crate so he is never unsupervised on the carpet We hope this will work better for us .....
  19. Hi All.. Please be patient with me I have read the posts on this topic but my main problem is consistincy ,mine and his. He is 9 wks is crate trained but pees his bed every night even though I get up at around 12am so he can go I use all the right commands but he goes right after coming in from outside and ALL the time every few minutes sometimes and not in the same spot. He is an inside only dog as we are on the first floor he has a doggy toilet on the balcony and I do take him out every 1/2 hr or so. When he pees outside I encourage him with lots of praise. ALso I'm trying to get him to accept the noise and other people in the house he is quiet and not too used to others I'm also trying to avoid the possessiveness to one person. Here's a sample of our day up at 12am(yes midnight) up again at 6am straight out for toilet hubby watches him reg breaks until 7am Breakfast then toilet but he's already peed a dozen times by then crated while kids get ready if he's not asleep toilet every 1/2 hr out for toilet then play (agin peed alot) crate then lunch toilet break so on I think i'm giving him alot of opportunities to use the loo should I make a pen off his crate and keep him in that all the time? I'm getting frustrated I've never had this much trouble before.... Please help
  20. I have been following this thread avidly..... I've been looking at gazebos v screen rooms too I didn't want to look like a show dag either I'm solo but have the feeling someone will lend a hand if I get stuck and the kids will have to live with the fact the gazebo stays in the lounge room til i get it right !!! At what age puppy did everyone start to exhibit....is it a good idea to start in the sweepstakes( baby puppy) for practice for both of us? Did anyone else feel like a total fish out of water.... And how the hell do I get me, a crate, gazebo, esky, chair grooming stuff from the carpark to the ring side? I have images of pack horse style me dragging half and the rest loaded on my back ... It all sounds like soooo much fun !!!! Looking forward to lots of fun
  21. Thanks Tilly I have already been to obedience with my late Golden Retriever but not show training of any sort. I hadn't thought of the vet's carrying diseases but that makes sense as well as the training field hosting diseases I'm keeping him in until after his 12wk now for sure
  22. A HUGE Thanks for all, It is a great relief to have like minded people for support! I'm sure I'm not the first person to feel overwhelmed with the resposibility of bringing an obedient, well socialised puppy into our communities.. I just want to get it right.. Prevention Better than Cure appoach.. Thanks
  23. I'm trying it out for the first time AAAAHHHHH!!! I'm glad to see so many other newbies feel just like me. Will I stuff things up. Will he show well. Will I fall on my backside in front on everyone! ...hehehehe Looking forward to joining the fun
  24. Thanks everyone for the great tips.. It can be soooo confusing with lots of advice. I don't mean all Bull Terriers are aggressive... I should of stated that I want him to be non dog aggressive as his parents are the most happy loveable friendly dogs I know!! and I'd love him to be like that also. I will be keeping away from other dogs until his second vacc...... Again thanks to all for thier insight as I am a novice to the showing side of dog ownership... Quatro's proud mum
