:D Winnie was fast asleep under the futon and hubby was about to sit down to enjoy his bowl of nachos when his mobile rang in the other room, he thought his nachos would be safe for the few seconds he was gone since she was snoring and all.. needless to say he came back to an empty bowl, licked clean and a happy Winnie with cheese hanging out her teeth

beautiful pics! looks like everyone had a great day shame we did not meet, maybe next year :D Winnie slept all the way home in the car and then spent all night passed out on the futon! At 8.30pm she waddled out the back door and I found her in her cubby flat on her back snoring She did not even have the energy for her bedtime milk & cookie!

Alive .. when times in life are uncertain, when people let me down, when I doubt myself, when I feel unsure of the world around me and I feel like I have lost my way, just one look into that beautiful little face reminds me that I am her world and that I am doing something right :D

I had a cubby/kennel built for Winnie.. We have since put a doggy door in it as well so over winter we can shut it completely! Out of the hundreds of things I have bought her this is the best money spent, she absolutely loves it, all her toys are in there & she has stacks of room :D Its like a playroom as well as a kennel, I have even fallen asleep in there with her -

Jata a shelter is VERY different to a vet clinic with someone who is bringing in a pet in comparison to someone who is putting down an animal from a shelter. Shelter euthanasias wouldn't require a sedation because generally they don't have owners there present to be distressed by the animals thrashing. Shelter animals are usually dumped, abondened, given up etc so the owners would rarely stay with the animal to watch it be euthanised. I'm talking SPECIFICALLY about PET(s) as in your pet not shelter animals. If you've had a your pet put down without sedation and it was peaceful then lucky for you I was not so lucky. Well, I must have lucked with the Vets I have worked with because very few Euths have gone bad, and no they are as a rule not sedated first. We have had cause to sedate (tablets in food) some really nasty pound dogs before Euth but pets, nope. I don't like the inference that it is ok for shelter animals to not have a peaceful passing either, they are treated the same as any other. Exactly

I worked at a shelter that had a private vet clinic and I also worked at three other vet clinics. Never once experienced an animal thrashing about and I attended thousands of euthanasias. Whether it is a shelter animal or an owned animal it still deserves a peaceful journey, and that is exactly what they had without being sedated.

+1 I vet nursed at a shelter as well as a private clinic, of the thousands of animals pts, both homeless & owned, we never once sedated first, never had one thrash about, never had one problem. It was quick and peaceful.

The separation anxiety has been going on since he was a pup, he stopped doing it when he was nine until tonight, there hasn't been a confused relationsship. Good news, Kenny just came up & licked my hand & we had a cuddle, so he has forgiven me. :D

I am guessing it would not be me

Yes many times and I have stayed with every single one. The last person I want them to see & hear is the one person in the world that loved them the most
-
Absolutely agree, who better than to spend the last moments of your life with than someone who genuinely loves & cares. Of the thousands upon thousands of animals that I saw leave this world, from the 'loved' to the abused to the starving to the feral, each and every single one had a kind voice, a kind hand and at least a few minutes of respect given to them.. Some had never known what a gentle pat was ever in their life or a soft reasurring voice, at the very least I got to show them that and even if it were for only a few minutes, I got to show them what life should have been

ditto. I have seen enough to last me more than a lifetime, I have scars from things I have seen and I will be haunted by it for the rest of my life
