  1. Thanks for the advice guys. He will be going back for the nose "blister" Im sure as you would agree, its so frustrating when no one can give you an answer, the vet was a little clueless as to what it was.
  2. This i will never understand How the hell can you make yourself a meal, look over at an animal and go "na she'll be right" you dont need to eat today. That poor doggy. RIP Buddy.
  3. Just looking at the pics again and they could be Histiocytomas but I would recommend that your vet does a biopsy to rule out cancer or the other the baddies. He recently had a lump removed which was tested and also had chest xrays for possible cancer but all negative. Wouldnt hurt though, i dont know if they did bloods. I dont think so. thanks pers.. oh thats cute about the cat
  4. there is no discharge and the blister is semi healed, it seemed to blister, scab and then flake and the reveal healed skin..i think thats the best way to describe it. No biopsy, just looked at it, felt it and gave anti biotics and cream. then we had a follow up visit a week later, 2 weeks ago it was swollen and very sore to touch, he had a go at me and we had to muzzle him at the vet in the beginning and now hes not really fussed when i touch it now. the tail actually looks the best it has in weeks, but now the nose...im so confused. Oh and btw he is 11 in this coming march.
  5. Thanks for reminding me, the vets have diagnosed him with a flea allergy, every summer he gets very itchy around the base of his tail and backend, he has had a anti histamine injection a month or two ago for the itching (which he has every year) and have never had a problem. However we have been feeding them different food every now and then, which has egg in it... hrmm you have me thinking now. I wonder if its the food. Could a food allergy cause blisters though. I just want him to be better Hes has the cone collar thingy on for 3 weeks now and he is miserable at times, he looks at me as if to say "muuuuuuuuummmmm take this bloody thing off" I'll be good i promise He also has quite oily skin and he isnt allowed to have a bath (vets orders so the tail doesnt get wet) but the collar was irritating him and he was a bit on the nose so I gave him what a call a half bath and just washed his front half. He hates having a bath but they joy he must have felt as i massaged malaseb into his neck... If it doesnt clear up he will be going back to the vet. argggh its one thing after another with him at the moment and I just want my baby back to normal
  6. Hi all, I just wanted to share my story about the other night. My partner and I were going out to get some dinner and spotted a golden retriever about to wander out onto a major road. We stopped picked her up and I went and did some door knocking looking for the owner, It was getting late so after a few door knocks, i had no luck so we decided to take her home for the night. We fed her, gave her a blanket to sleep on(our dog beds and kennel are too small as we have chi's.) She had the most beautiful temperament, so friendly and just so well behaved, knows how to sit, shake, lay down, didnt jump up and hardly barked. Needless to say within a few hours we were a bit smitten  She had shire tags but the rangers were off duty until morning so had to leave a message and wait until the next day.We spent time outside with her, playing and patting her etc, it was very clear that her owners loved her and spent time with her, she was very healthy, good weight etc. She was just an all round lovely dog. Morning came, rangers rang said they know who owns the dog and can the owners call me to arrange to pick up there dog?? Sure. Within a minute I had a phone call asking for the address to come and get there dog. A woman and her children arrived as soon as the dog spotted them she was so excited and dragged me over to see them (she was on a lead) Turns out the dogs name is Polar (well suited, I made a comment she looked like a polar bear) the family had walked her, given her dinner and the gone out and she dug a hole under the fence and went walkies. The lady tells me they went street walking looking for her dog, the kids were upset and crying because there dog was missing She was so grateful that we had picked her up and she must have thanked me a million times, but we had a ball with her and she was no trouble at all. This all happened two days ago. Yesterday afternoon this woman (should have got her name) and her daughter, came over and gave us a thankyou card and a box of chocolates as a thankyou for taking there dog in. It was hard not to tear up, I just couldnt believe it, I never expected anything in return, we were just glad that Polar clearly has a loving home and the owners actually cared that there dog was missing. What a lovely family, both the kids, the mum and "polar" wrote in the card. I tell you what though if no one had claimed her I think she would have become a permanent resident  This whole experience has restored my faith in humanity. :D Here some pictures of Polar
  7. One of his healing tail..sorry its not a great one.
  8. Hey guys, a while back I posted a while back about my chi X having a lypoma on his tail, glad to say all healed now, however he has a sore on his tail that he kept biting at and it wasn't getting any better so off to the vet with him, she shaved the area, had a look at it and said its "blister like" and put Tug on some antibiotics and gave some cream to apply to the area. And of course the dreaded collar goes back on. this was a few weeks ago now, she said he could have to wear the collar for up to a month. Now he has developed something very similar on his nose. He will be going back to vet if this does not clear up, i could apply some of the cream to it, but he will just lick it off. I'm thinking the vet may need to give his a injection or something to help healing. Thats all well and good but what the hell is this?? Has anyone had a similar experience...allergy,infection,bite from something??? Any advice would be great... Will attach pictures to show the nose... Thanks :)
  9. Results are in!! It's a non cancerous fibrous lypoma (spelling??) Vet said it's all good, they are just concerned it may grow back but it's nothing to worry about
  10. Thanks Pers. The pathology results will be available tomorrow, so im going to call them instead of waiting until friday. heres hoping all is good :)
  11. Hey Steph, It made me very pleased when the vet said even though he is 10, that he is a good candidate for surgery because hes healthy :) Bandage came off last night, wasnt meant to come off until today, but it started to slip off, so i just took it off last night, I am SO impressed with the way the wound looks, its so clean and tidy, you can hardly even see it, the vet did an amazing job Tug is on a course of antibiotics and we get the pathology results back on Wednesday, he goes in for a checkup on Friday, then stitches come out a few days after that. You wouldn't even know he has had surgery, he was back to his normal self the day after :) Thankyou to everyone for your kind words, means alot
  12. thanks guys, he was most unimpressed when i put the plastic collar on him last night, he layed down in bed and looked at as if to say mum WTF is this torture device lol but hey better than him ripping the badages. while someone is home he doesnt have to wear it though. im sitting out the back having a coffee while hes on his bed chewing on a pigs ear :)
  13. Ok heres some pics, managed to resize them. He all dopey lol I covered him in his blanket which he loves and is sleeping soundly. Sorry for the quality, low light etc.
  14. Our little Tug-a-boo (thats my nickname for him) is home and recovering well. The vet has said that now that she has the lump out she doesn't like the look of it and "if" it is cancer it should be localized and absolute worst case scenario is he may end up with a foot amputation. But will wait for pathology results. I'm very optimistic though, as you all have said lumps and bumps on older dogs are common, so I'm not too worried, if it is really bad will cross that bridge if and when we get there. We have him in the loungeroom with the light off and hes going to chill and watch tv with us (which he does every night.) Will post a pic tomorrow. Thankyou so much to all of you for your kind words :) Aussie3 I'm so sorry for the loss of your Chi X. Im sure those 16 years were wonderful :)
  15. I'm not sure why they didn't do a needle biopsy, I have spoken to the vet again and it is a "soft tissue lump" what exactly that means im not sure, but they did say it will need to be sent for testing. Luckily this lump, is not attached to bone and any of his toes, so he gets to keep them all :) Yes hearing the word tumor is scary but staying positive!!
  16. ok, he's at the vets now, we are just waiting for x rays, then he will have surgery regardless of what the lump is, then the 'tumour' will be sent away for testing. thanks for the well wishes everyone xoxo
  17. Hi All, Just wanted to talk about one of our fur babies. Tug is 10 and a half year old Chi X. We noticed a lump on his paw, near dew claw a couple of weeks ago and thought maybe it was just irritated due to his licking his feet alot (has always done this) or maybe just it was swollen and would go away. It now is still there and we took him to the vet the other day for his yearly allergy injection (he gets very itchy this time of year, possibly grass allergy) and we thought we should mention the lump. The vet had a feel of it and said that its either a tumor or fibrous tissue due to a possible foreign body or injury (which as far as we know hasn't happened.) So he's off to the vet tomorrow for x rays and possible surgery on his paw, if it is a tumor they will remove it and see what happens from there. I have done research in regards to cancer tumors etc and thankfully he doesn't have any obvious symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, decreased appetite etc. But I can't help but fear the worst. My partner got Tug and his brother Leroy as pups and I have been with my partner for almost 5 years and they are such a huge part of our lives. Has anyone been through something similar?? All I can ask is please think of our baby. We love him so much. I'm sure im overreacting but you just never know. Here is little picture of our baby boy.
  18. Thanks to everyone for your responses, It can't be easy sharing those stories when some are so painful.
  19. I'm very lucky so far any of the pets Ive had are still with me, so i havent had to experience it yet, well actually I have seen one euth on a stray kitten when I was a teen, my friend found it and it was so sick and thin, one of its eyes was completely scabbed over with infection The vets thought it best, i had no attachment to this kitten(of course it was cute and all but i only had met it that day) and i was a mess when it passed away, it was so sick that they had trouble finding a vein. Anyway my point was Ive never had to say goodbye to one of my own in that way. To look into my pets eyes as it slips away, i think will be the hardest thing i would ever see.
  20. I am currently studying Animal Care at TAFE and hope to study vet nursing one day and I came across a situation today that would be relevant to me in the future and it got me thinking. I was at the vets taking my dog in for a follow up after teeth extraction and there was a woman there who came out of a consult room crying, she was holding a lead and the staff member with her had a box, I'm assuming with a small dog inside after being given its wings. I didn't want to even look in her direction as I was worried about being sad for her and getting teary and I wonder how do vets, vet nurses and staff in that situation cope? Is it something you get used to having to serve people who are upset by the loss of their pets? I feel for that woman she was clearly very upset as you would be and the staff were very sympathetic towards her etc. Has anyone ever been in that situation and not been able to control their emotions etc?? Please feel free to share stories, experiences etc if you would like... Thanks
