  1. I've been showing for 6 months (and only about 4 shows). I'm sure i'm shocking, but we're doing ok. I'm not going to stress over all the little things i'm doing wrong, not even sure i'm grooming him right tbh.
  2. Poodlefan, i was hesitant about trying 4800 because of the size of the bag but they guarantee palatability. I think so long as you haven't used more than 20% then you can return the bag and get your money back. Oberon is trying 4800. He does seem to like the taste more than he likes other kibble.
  3. So you're saying that a registered breeder should have no control over what happens with their dogs. Just let anyone breed from them or show a dog that is not a good representation. The dog may be healthy but not ideal for breeding or showing, You can call them control freaks but these people are trying to protect the quality of purebred dogs, to the benefit of pet owners and breeders/showies alike.
  4. I vote limited. and Limited does not mean lesser quality. in my mind it means pet and not to be bred from. I know of many dogs that were on the limited register but turned out to be good specimens to be shown or bred from and were changed tp the main register. Its a simple thing to do and something i think you as a breeder should have control over. What would happen if one of the puppy buyers having bought a main registered pup thats not quite to standard and decides to show it. they have the right to but but the pup might not be a good example of your breeding. just thought i'd say i'm not a breeder but a new showie, whose dog started on the limit register and is now on the main.
  5. i'll have to get my entry off. will be a busy weekend.
  6. i love contrast too. I love my borzoi, he suits us for many reasons but in other ways he doesn't meet some of our needs. For example, we'd like to get a more trainable breed next time, slightly more dependant. quite the opposite really, just meets a different need.
  7. My current list is Afghan hound Ibizan hound Irish setter (or Red and white setter) Large Munsterlander Finnish Lapphund Pointer collie (smooth) Dobermann Weimeraner(LH) Pyranean Mountain dog Hungarian Viszla
  8. i never put 2 and 2 together either. and i should of known not to name him that either. the king of the fairies is certainly full of himself.
  9. Oberon, is the name of the king of the fairies (midsummer nights dream). He definitely thinks he's king a lot of the time. and then other times he'll be off with the fairies, dainty, silly, stupid, all of that.
  10. yes, its earthborn holistic grain free
  11. May I ask which produce store you found it at please? I've been wanting to try farm barn in Maleny.
  12. We're trying a kibble at the moment that has 38% protein. Sounds like a lot to me. I know they recommend low protein in growing large breeds but what about adult dogs, whats a good amount of protein and what are the ramifications of too much protein?
  13. I walked into my local farm produce store and was shocked to see earthborn holistics. Bought a small bag of the grain free and he seems to like it. the size of the kibble is very tiny. never seen tinier kibble. The ingredients read fairly well. Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Whitefish Meal, Potatoes, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a source of vitamin E), Dried Egg Product, Tomato Pomace, Apples, Blueberries, Carrots, Peas, Spinach, Garlic, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Taurine, Cottage Cheese, L-Lysine, DL-Methionine, Beta-Carotene, Calcium Carbonate, Zinc Oxide, Magnesium Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Niacin, D-Calcium Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, L-Carnitine, Vitamin B12 Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Ferrous Sulfate, Biotin, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Calcium Iodate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Manganese Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Dried Lactobacillus Plantarum Fermentation Product, Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product.
  14. Honestly, its far better to teach students with these animals, and then have them put to sleep than to just have them put to sleep as undoubtedly would have been the plan anyway. Why waste the bodies, they were going to be killed anyway, and the animal will have not suffered any more.
  15. yes it was you, just wasn't 100% sure. thanks again.
  16. sounds very similar. by chance i found the recipe yesterday.
  17. oh no, not at all, she can handle her current dogs energy, just prefer something less crazy this time. this isn't a dog for the other dog, first thought is its a dog for the family. i'm sure she'd have plenty of time for the puppy stage as well.
  18. I was at a show a few months back and met a lovely exhibitor who is also on DOL. She gave me a recipe but in the mayhem i lost it. I cant remember her name, she showed me some training with the treats. The recipe included liver, flour and eggs and was baked and Oberon loved it so if you're the person i'm talking about could you give me the recipe again please. Anyone else have some good tasty training treat recipes your dog goes nuts for?
  19. a lappie or a shetland sheepdog wont do as the reason for no long hair is ticks. we're in a bad area and even with preventatives you have to check them regularly. much harder to check a thick long coat. I was also wrong about the breed they currently have. its a 2yr old kelpie cross. They're leaning towards an aussie terrier.
  20. Thank you all, you came up with many of the breeds i was thinking of. Also she's fine if they shed, just not a lot. so low shedding is fine. She doesn't want a border collie, wants to try something new. How much do lappies shed? I agree that some groups don't necessarily get along well with other groups. My borzoi(hound group) has problems with many herding dogs. They don't agree with each other. I'll suggest a grey, she is interested in rescues also. Spaniels i think are a good option. so springers, fields, cockers, what about cavs? flat coast, curly coats, what about irish water spaniels. will ask her whether the dog will be indoors and how much grooming she will give.
  21. I understood her at the time, but should clarify further with her. I have what is a lower energy dog, requires not a lot of input from me. He gets about 1/2 hr exercise most days, but if he has another dog to play with including high energy dogs like borders, poodles, he will keep up with them and enjoy it. Its possible they want calmer energy for their kid. I think she doesn't necessarily want inactive just not as active as some herding dogs. Afterall some dogs, especially intelligent dogs can get up to mischief if you don't meet their needs
  22. Not for me but for a friend. She's considering a 2nd dog. Now hopefully i get this right. She is used to border collies but would like something a little more low key for a 2nd dog. I think her current dog is a border. She would like no working breeds, atleast not the ones that need lots of exercising. So something more lazy. Also -low to no shedding -medium sized or appropriate for a medium sized dog to play with -good with kids. She has a 5 yr old. -I think she's open to how the dog looks, short faced, long faced, curly haired etc.
  23. $461 sounds like a lot to me. and why will it go up with age? I don't think all insurers charge more as they get older. would be worth checking i'd say. Definitely look at that other thread. I think i paid $380 for 1 yr. we've already recieved over $800 back through claims with pet insurance australia.
  24. correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't the red and the red and white, the same breed originally. sounds like a good idea.
  25. I love this one. i took it a while ago, but i love that it shows the shine in his eyes and the leaves of th clover plus each strand of hair.
