awesome. sighthound is even better.

As the title says, is there a picture online of the muscles on a dog. Oberon is seeing my kinesiologist on Friday and she'd like a dog muscle chart if i can find one.

I'm also an advocate for being able to take objects away from your dog with them willing to do so and no growling. What if they find a rat(could be baited) or some other dangerous item and they don't want to give it up? Part of Oberons resource guarding was dominance and once we let it be known he wasn't top of the pack he stopped. Probelm with my boy is he doesn't warn with a growl. its his body language that lets it be known and with little kids around that aren't that aware of dog body language, we couldn't have him go on like that.

Not A Breed For First Timers
pixie_meg replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd say my boy fits the category as a borzoi with a high prey drive. As a pup he was so very difficult, super independant. I enlisted the aid of his breeder and a trainer which helped immensely and now i have a well balanced teenage dog. Still a little crazy but controllable and become a lovely cuddler. -
My dogs go to Rowan at Animal Options. Toni Lynch is another who practices in a similar style that some friends use. She has a practice on the Sunshine Coast (Malaney??) which is a bit closer. That'd be Maleny. Strange i didn't even now she was in my area.

Pick Up After Your Dogs Show People!
pixie_meg replied to woodbyne's topic in General Dog Discussion
i was told the reason our local ag show doesn't do the dog show part anymore is because the showies didn't pick up after their dogs. Its a real shame as i'd love to show my boy at that show. -
I love big dogs so naturally my first dog would be big. OH didn't like the typical dog, liked something a little more exotic. We also wanted a dog that wasn't a big barker and not terribly demanding. Fairly low coat maintenance and a rarer breed. We did one of those breed selector quizzes online and came up with a Borzoi or Afghan. The afghan coat is gorgeous but i was pretty sure i couldn't do it justice. I settled on a Borzoi and there just so happened to be a litter ready from a breeder who had similar beliefs to mine. I wanted a dog that would rough house and borzoi aren't supposed to like that but luckily mine does. He's fun to play with but definitely has an off switch, and is wonderful to cuddle. I love watching him zoom around the yard. I would definitely have another one but would also like to try a breed with much more obedience/trainability.

Lovely story, Sounds like he gave you lots of love.

A little from column A and a little from column B. My two children have been brought up the same way but i quite different. what works for one doesn't work another. But that said some parents believe their children are just being children, but really they're being right royal brats who don't know what a consequence is. My kids aren't great but they know there are rules and they test the rules. The difference is that kids really do adapt and try new things while in my experience kind of says that once a dog is trained and you keep up with your rules with them, then they're good to go. Kids have 17 years of switching, changing, evolving and testing. its a lot for a parent to adapt to.

pixie_meg replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion

How Many New Breed Accepted By Ankc
pixie_meg replied to GeckoTree's topic in General Dog Discussion
How does one get an AKC or FCI recognised breed recognised and accepted by the ANKC in Australia? -
So sorry Gayle. Such a young age to leave you.

So sorry for your loss.

there sure are, I wish some of them would show my boy, but seems like they're already in high demand.

As a newbie i see a professional handler to be one who is respected by many to be excellent at handling. I don't think its got anything to do with years in the ring as i've seen many experienced show people who aren't the whole package. By whole package i mean having all the skills to show the dog in the best way possible. Posture impeccable, speed to show the dog off best. Good training of the dog to free stack and hand stack. A presence that supports the dogs temperament. Good presentation of themselves and respect for other showies. they know how to get the most out of a dog.

Bulking Up A Healthy, But Very Underweight Dog.
pixie_meg replied to brutus's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We've done raw and many kibbles and the best one so far for keeping weight on and muscle tone was Royal Canin Energy 4800. It doesn't make him fat, just in good condition. -
not as good as most of yours but...
-
this morning, he tripped me over with his leash. bruised knee, elbow and scraped palms. i regularly get body slammed (on purpose) by Oberon. Results in fat lip, black eye, bruised ribs etc fairly regularly. He seems to think its funny.

awesome. my eldest will be 7 then. she might be able to enjoy this with me.
