  1. Borzoi do not need much grooming. maybe a brush once a week. a bath once a month and they look clean all the time.
  2. I finally have a stacked photo of Oberon. Its not quite right but will do for now. Just 2 weeks till our first show. eek.
  3. love the black and tan poodle. doubt there are any in oz though right?
  4. Haven't heard of a reverse triangle. is that just a triangle starting to the back left instead of the right?
  5. Think you are probably talking about Jim Hickie's fairytale: http://www.afghanhoundsinternational.net/a...o/fairytale.htm yep thats it, its great.
  6. reminds of a joke about showing an afghan in its natural coat. cant find the link though.
  7. You're very right. She's given me a great opportunity to get out there too. I'm terribly biased about my boy too.
  8. Well thats reassuring , thanks guys. I can definitely see that. drama llamas.
  9. I know it doesn't seem like it but i've been much more relaxed in the last week than i was before. I had some one on one show training with a borzoi person and she was very positive about how he was moving and when pushed about his faults she commented on his age and how its an awkward age, but that he was promising. Nice head and alert. I wanted to hear the negatives. I think i'll ask again. She has been super helpful. I know i'll have fun throwing ourselves in the ring. As much as it sounds like i'm a perfectionist it probably more true that i am a knowledge freak with aspergers syndrome. I want/need to know everything about things i intend to do. doesn't produce a perfectionist at all unfortunately. lol. Just means i don't feel silly if i miss something. I'm really glad i've got the dog i do, he's an extrovert so he'll bring this introvert out. Even before i decided to show i was reading about Borzoi structure and how it relates to performance and the standard. I love this stuff. Thanks fifi, SSM and ellz. lots of good points. I have a video camera so i might set that up and see how it all looks.
  10. I'm very new to showing and will be showing for the first time in a few weeks with a one year old dog who also hasn't been shown before. I've seen a couple of times show people huff about how their dog didn't do their best and i wonder what their dog did that they didn't like. I thought they stacked alright, i thought they moved ok. I'm wondering if i'm missing something critical about their movement. I've been practicing with my boy and he seems to stack ok and stay in the stack but will get distracted sometimes. occasionally he'll want to play which i get him to stop. so what are people complaining about that has gone 'wrong'? What do you consider things that you or your dog do that might influence the judge negatively no matter how small they may be. thanks heaps for your input from a newbie.
  11. I used to think that an emergency credit card was better but when you think of the big bills it was worth it for us. It only takes one incident like with Kaffy Magee's Chase, a freak occurrence and you're up for thousands. sure you can pay by credit card but that still costs you more than insurance. It only takes my dog to be let out of the yard by accident and get hit by a car and that could be thousands too. You hear about someones dog costing them thousands fairly regularly on here, i'm paying about $380 per year in insurance for my boy and i'm sure i'll get half of that back on treatments through the year. Last year alone cost me about $1000 without insurance on fairly minor things. I've got a fast active dog so i'm not concerned about the routine costs, just the big things where he turned the wrong way and did his hip in or twisted a limb. A big dog equals bigger costs in antibiotics and other meds.
  12. i just signed up with Pet insurance Australia. I'm more worried about the big stuff anyway.
  13. what company are you with? I've got the same concern about claims. Oberon had a skin reaction to who knows what so i'm suspecting any future skin issues will be off the table.
  14. i had a feeling there was bad news and didn't want to come in here. sad to hear its not good but keeping my fingers crossed.
  15. Oberon was invited to Kindy as a big dog example and one of the dads brought in 8 six week old pups. Add to that the 20 kindy kids who probably patted their own dogs before going to kindy that day and i'd say thats pretty risky.
  16. Sending positive vibes Chases way. I hope he gets better soon.
  17. RAin we were most likely at those shows I just havent been in here for ages. Are you entered anywhere soon? What sort of dog do you have so we can all keep an eye out! Hey pixie good to see you hitting the ring! One on one training will be good for you, its really not that hard but it does take abit of training outsiode the show ring and some dogs are naturals and some arnt...wheres your boy from? He is from Argowan at Newcastle. He's got great personality, its more a matter of calming him down around other dogs that'll be the problem. i'm nervous but excited. Ahhh i see, I have seen the Arogowan people around abit at shows, dont know them thou. A friend of ours shows borzios for someone around here so we get zoi's visiting our little gazebo area quit abit. They are such a different type of dog than I am used to but theres sumthing about them I really like. Alot of them seem to almost float around the ring! And now you are showing maybe you will end up with a show pointer eventually..if you enjoy yourself of course Pointers are still on my list.

  19. Hi all, We've just entered our first ever show so we have less than a month to get ready and we're really not ready . I feel a little odd since he's never been shown and he's in junior class and i have virtually no clue on how to show. I'll be getting some one on one training this Friday so we'll see how we go. Wish me luck.
  20. Me again. Do i need to put a stamped self addressed envelope in with my entry?
  21. yes editing to add: if qld born it should start with a 4. nsw born so does it start with a 2? also where do i find entry forms? can't see any on the dogs qld site??
