  1. I could check, but I seem to recall that that is not allowed. really, i'd be interested to know. I generally just use it to get rid of any red mud and then use the other shampoo. Its not adding white to the coat. which plenty of people do with zinc or chalk it seems.
  2. And whenever i see your dachshund in your sig i always think how good its coat looks.
  3. I know theres been a few topics about preferred shampoos but i know that now that i'm showing my boy i've changed my shampoo. I guess i think theres a difference in shampoo to get the dog clean and shampoo that makes the coat look great and keeps it in great condition . I also didn't use a conditioner until now. So i'm curious what you showies use for showing. I know many recommend groomers products. Also i thought it would be great if people could offer newbies some hints on grooming. I know i feel clueless a lot of the time as a first timer. So at the moment i don't think i'm using the best but its all i can afford right now and i'll just use it till i run out i think which wont be too far away given how grotty this rain has made him. so heres what i do at the mo. dog: borzoi whitener: Fidos whiten and brightener - on the white areas that tend to sop up the red mud. Shampoo: Professional groomers Long coat - on all other areas Conditioner: the same one i use: Tresseme naturals - everywhere but diluted i think i'll try the groomers royal jelly one next.
  4. are labs really that easy? i've heard mixed opinions. some say that when bored they're destructive. and that it doesn't take much for them to be bored. i'd say thats probably not good for a first timer. have i been told wrong about labs, afterall they are a gundog.
  5. she's probably talking about colloidal silver. i use it on bad wounds on my dog to prevent infection.
  6. We had our first show on Friday night. Just wish we had some competition. so we got our first BOB and 6 pts. We did ok, unfortunately right before going in the ring he wanted to play with some dogs so wouldn't focus. i was far too fidgety, but i had a great night. Oberon loved it.
  7. I started a profile for Oberon just for fun. it was a real surprise when a bunch of people i didn't know asked to be friends with him. I don't know most of them but it feels like a great support network. they comment on his photos and on status updates. I can keep in touch with his breeder best this way and i've found his grandfather and great, great grandfathers breeders as friends on facebook. Its a great resource for me.
  8. thats hilarious. i can so imagine simple dog and helper dog.

  10. it has instructions somewhere on the site. cant remember where. took a couple of goes to get it right. here it is: http://www.showmanager.com.au/Portals/0/He...kStartGuide.pdf
  11. Can someone tell me what RBCC means? Is there a good place to find out what all the acronyms mean?
  12. don't now much about them but what about the swedish vallhund. small, looks fairly robust though it is a working breed.
  13. Thats exactly the conversation i have atleast twice a week. We get a few teenagers(the feral kind mind you) who say he's ugly and strange but everyone else say he's beautiful.
  14. It gives level of cover and underneath it gives a definition of what each level means, there are some levels that recommend retesting sooner or vaccinating but our levels came back to only re-check a year later. that was the recommendation for us too. As for not knowing you're covered, sometimes the vax doesn't work anyway. there are failure rates. I know our titre came out as covered but my results piece of paper didn't tell me much. i'll have to follow that up with the vet.
  15. These pictures are all awesome. My contribution is this silly one when he was 8 months old and this: my 2 men running
  16. We didn't do the 1 yr vax and instead did the titre. I don't understand this vaccine protocol thing as if the titre comes back as covered then they're covered. We had a vax reaction at the 12 week so thought it was important to titre. if someone could explain how a titre is different at 1yr without the full protocol compared to later i'd really like to know.
  17. LOL, I had heard that story but wasn't game to repeat it in case the Collie people came after me..... it was mentioned on animal planets dogs 101 that there was borzoi put in the collie.
  18. there were sweepstake options up to junior class, so seems more than usual shows. this will be our first sweepstakes and second show. Our first is on the Friday night before the caboolture show. scary.
  19. :D It isn't even 24 hours since their first post. Not everyone accesses their personal messages and forums at work on their boss's time. sorry, I just know that most people who start a thread hang around for a little while to check, even if they check an hour later.
  20. Yes, the inconsistency in naming is a major issue for the lay person trying to get their head around it for a breed with a wide range of colours and patterns. In Borzoi sable often used to be called tortoiseshell, and although incorrect that was more descriptive of what it looks like. It also has a charateristic facial pattern with a'widows peak' of colour - very like domino and grizzle. To make it worse, official colour lists like that of the AKC in the US list "sabled" red (or cream or gold etc) and red (or whatever) "sable" as two different but legitimate colours, and I still can't figure out if they are genetically different ("sabled red" ay, at and "red sable" at, at with eG). Depends entirely on who you read - talk about confusing! If When I win lotto I'll fund the research to map it out properly! if you can recommend any up to date texts on colour genetics let me know, all the stuff I read 20 years ago seems to have been proved wrong or very incomplete since. This site has me confused about colour. http://borzoi-color.batw.net/quick_color.html My boy is a blue sable but going by that sites chart he'd be classed as a gold sable because of the gold undertones. I'm very interested in this too Diva.
  21. I love the look of these guys. Porcelaine dogs. I just bought a dog encyclopedia from dymocks and it seems to have all the rare breeds, its awesome.
  22. Oberon is beautiful, pixie_meg! Good luck for your first show. How old is he now? 14 months.
