Ok, now not sure it was kennel cough. he seems fine now. so how soon after ceasing coughing are they not contagious if it was infact KC. I cant seem to find this info on a google search.
-
thats what it is.
-
Great, i have colloidal silver. Will also use some honey. I'm 95% sure its KC after last night coughing/gagging.
-
i considered tracheal but the surgery was 10 days ago and no sign of issues back then. He was at a dog show 10 days ago so if it turns out to be KC then i'd say its from there. He saw a vet this morning, 10 days ago and 7 days ago. Will give some yoghurt a shot.

I've only had one experience with kennel cough when a foster had it. She was really sick for about four days with it, then coughed on and off for about two weeks with it. I got her antibiotics as she wasn't in that good a condition when she came to me. Sorry can't remember the name of the antibiotics Tilly my golden retreiver caught it from Stella, but as she had been immunised, although about a month overdue, she only had a few coughs on the first day, coughing badly on the second and as right as rain after that. Not sure about diarrhea although I have had something like kennel cough myself for the last few weeks and I can say yes it does cause diarrhea not a good combination at all, let me tell you Average duration - I was told about two weeks, which Stella had it for, Tilly for two days. However I quarantined all my dogs for a two weeks period thanks all. Oberon is on his second lot of antibiotics for a wound. He's lost 1kg in 10 days(though it was a different scale at a different vet), had very little exercise because of his injury, wont eat much and is generally a little quieter(but could be due to confinement). Seems to have lost muscle conditioning, but given he is used to running around everyday and cant i guess thats not surprising. he just started a funny cough last night, but not very often, often enough for me to notice though. Had diarrhea once. but i guess if he has a low grade infection that could make him feel a little off. The coughing is very irregular, probably not something to worry about.

Ok, so what type of antibiotics do they use for the treatment of kennel cough? 2nd question, Do dogs with kennel cough, cough all the time or pretty irregularly? 3rd, Does kennel cough cause diarrhea at all? and lastly, whats the average duration of kennel cough? thanks heaps.

What's The Most Ridiculous Thing Your Dog's Been Called?
pixie_meg replied to ~Rumour~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
my almost fully grown borzoi has been called a basenji, saluki, afghan, and irish wolfhound -
Granted i've competed in all of about 3 shows but i've already learnt a few things. People may or may not rubbish your dog. If they do talk bad about your dog it probably means they feel threatened. So far everyone has been pleasant to me. There aren't many dogs being shown in my breed though. They've been very encouraging. Maybe i'll meet some that wont be so nice, but cant say that'll stop me. if they don't have something nice to say then its definitely their problem. They probably are whinging about how good your dog is. Oh and i don't think you need to harden up. More like take a n ignore/whatever attitude to comments. Don't think anyone would accuse me of being 'hard' and i'm certainly not going to change who i am. I can be sensitive for sure but only in response to things that matter.

Not good. got there, but about an hour before the show Oberon had an incident and cut his toe open. So had to leave the show, visit to the vets instead. How'd you go? -
Thanks for the fantastic jackets guys. Hope it was a successful fundraiser.

Hitting The Ring For The First Time

(cross posted from the sighthound thread) Well we have some Great news and some dissappointing news. Firstly, On Friday Oberon got BOB against competition. I was so excited. Very, very happy. Only 2 borzoi at the show but still that was our first goal(points against competition). He went back in for Junior and best in group and was the most amazing civilised Oberon I have ever seen. He stacked well and stayed in the stack. A little slow at moving, think it was the heat. I was just so pleased. I was geared up for the Saturday, got there all set up and went to check out the showsuits for sale. tied Oberon up about 2m away to a park bench. Silly me thought it was screwed to the concrete. He got spooked, don't know why and dragged the bench a few metres till the leash broke. Looked fine at first but then saw his toe was bleeding. So off to the vet we went. He stayed in overnight and the vet said there should be no issue with it. All stitched. i hated leaving him overnight. Poor things sleeping it off today. Wish us a quick recovery and soothing thoughts for my baby. And a big thank you to those who helped him, myself and my dad with packing up and getting us on our way. It was greatly appreciated. -

You say you like to do obedience but does that mean you'd prefer an easy dog to train or wouldn't mind a challenge. Do you want/need reliable recall? So you want a guard dog. Many dogs will protect their owners. Maybe you just want the perception of a dog that will guard you if the wrong person meets you on your walks. So a dog thats large can look threatening to many but isn't really. Generally the lighter a dog is, the cheaper it is to feed and medicate. Worth keeping in mind. I know i cant afford a great dane or mastiff. My borzoi is the limit to that kind of cost for us. He's 38kg and will probably get to about 44kg when fully grown. He costs about $5 per day in food. Do you want a dog that needs your attention a lot or more independant?

Thats a lovely photo. What a great moment to capture.

If You Show Or Trial Your Dog
pixie_meg replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have volunteered for most things i've been involved with in my life but at this time while i'd like to i don't have the time. Its hard enough for me to get to a show and have babysitting organised, so volunteering is out for me for a while yet. -
it quite often looks like a heart, especially at that angle. thanks for looking all.

Do you feel lucky, well do ya?? Oh looksie i'm flexibubble. stealing a dinosaur.

You have more faith in the vast majority of vets than I do Most would be quite happy to see 5kg more on any of my "little" 15-17kg Staffords :D was thinking the same thing. the first vet i took oberon to was apalled at his ribs showing. he was perfectly healthy and a good weight.
