is it common to feed pups soaked kibble?? I know boy was started on soaked biscuits, i saw that wehn i visited at 7 weeks of age, but he was on dry kibble as soon as we brought him home. Maybe its a small dog thing??
  2. Looks like teething ears to me. About the right age for it too.
  3. LOL - my OH discovered that standing still is the best option after being sent flying in the snow by our grey ;) My boy waits for you to not be watching him and then he runs full pelt and launches into your chest. We're best to pretend we're going after him and then he'll most likely avoid us. this is why i've had a few fat lips and black eyes.
  4. Beautiful brindle. Any chance you know what breeder he(she's) by?

  6. Borzois are apparently 75th out of 79. apparently requiring 80+ repetitions. I agree that oeying commands is low for my borzoi but understanding the commands is high. he learns commands quickly.
  7. Pet insurance Australia is who we use and we recently got a big pay out through them. There are a lot of threads like this one though. Maybe do a search for them.
  8. Not sure about the tying up bit but the rest is similar to what we did. Removing the affection wont be forever. just remember that. She may have sounded defensive because many people find it difficult to make the changes and i'm sure they've had people back away from some of the harder methods. Still should let them know you're uncomfortable and they should be able to explain their methods.
  9. Sorry to hear she's gone but glad she's no longer suffering. She was a beautiful dog.
  10. mine was close to $300. was a real shock, thought it would be closer to the $100 mark. Mine sent it through gribbles. If i get a titre again i'll be shopping around.
  11. TBH,not sure it sounds like you're helping the OP with their question. More confusing them, i'd say. They asked about what the papers are, not what seems like a negative view of the pedigree dog world. The bolded bit. Dog shows being about looks, well only so much as the breed standard relates to the breed being fit for the function of their job. And obviously some of these breeds need to look at being fit for function again. Also, talking about inbreeding royals and inbreeding dogs in the same sentence is a bit silly.
  12. I know my boy would be absolutely fine in an apartment. He lazes about most of the day and prefers to be inside. one good walk and play a day is all he needs.
  13. Registered breeders supply pedigree papers that prove that your pup is registered with a state controlling body. These papers state who the parents are and who the breeder is. It is proof that your dog is in fact a pure bred dog. Dogs are either on the main register or limited. Limited means your dog is not to be bred from or shown at dog shows. Main registered dogs can be shown at conformation shows. Many dogs are not registered as the breeder may not be a registered breeder. They may be a BYB.
  14. Who's to say she isn't saving up to bring more klee kai over or waiting for a good bitch in a litter and keeping her and importing sperm. I'd personally love to own a couple of breeds that aren't recognised here. They're recognised by the FCI not the AKC.
  15. oh that was you. funny how you meet people and then find out they're on DOL. Oberon looked not so great. cant wait for his coat to grow back. thanks everyone for the tips. we had a very staticky coat, couldn't seem to tame it. oh well.
  16. Before i started showing i couldn't understand why only the winning dog and bitch got points. poor old runner up, especially for breeds with high entries gets no points. personally i like the idea of where there is dog(and bitch) 1st place and say there are 6 dogs, they get 10points (hope i've got that right). the second place dog gets 8pts(not 9 as the best dog should get a bit more of an advantage IMO). In the case where there are only 2 or 3 dogs i don't think there should be runner up points. I'd be interested to know if this would work.
  17. yep sunny coast. I'll see you there. thanks for the replies everyone. i'll wash him the night before and fluff him up in the morning.
  18. thanks for that. guess i'm extra worried as he lost a bit of undercoat this week. its been our hottest week for a long time. It'll be harder to fluff him. but his form is decent i think(says the newbie). Plus i threw a bone for him to fetch this arvo. he chased it, it bounced and donked him on the nose. lovely clunk sound and a blood spot on his nose. he doesn't seem hurt though. its been 2 months since his last show after his injury. think i'm nervous.
  19. We're attending our first morning show. now every other show i have washed and groomed him on the day, but i don't particularly want to wake up the whole family the morning of the show to wash him and dry him, its noisy. But i'm worried about how he'll look in the morning after washing and drying and flattening out his coat with sleep. if i wash and dry him the night before and then in the morning i spray water or light conditioner and use the drier again will that help?? Obviously different coats matter but any suggestions welcome.
  20. We're with Pet insurance australia. We just made our first claim we had a $250 excess but we got everything else back. 3 vet visits for the one condition and a bill of over $1100.
  21. reviving an old thread. he often starts his zoomies in the decomposing hay bale. ewwww!
  22. don't believe i've seen a sighthound in here yet. I also love afghan pups.
  23. i don't have any entry forms as i use showmanager which fills out the forms which i then print out. its free for your first show dog and easy once you get used to it. http://www.showmanager.com.au/
