New Qantas Travel Requirements/crates
shazlm64 replied to Dogsfevr's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have just purchased a pp30 pet plastic carrier apparently international airport approved (arrived this week). It has the water container but no drip tray. Given that the bottom is solid plastic with no holes for spills to escape, does that mean it doesn't require a drip tray? I don't want to get to the airport and find it doesn't meet the new standard. Anyone had any experience with this? -
Congratulations Bel on Colbey's big win  . I too had a great day with Bohdi ( Tzuyuan Bodacious On Fire) winning Minor in Show. Maybe I embarrassed him by putting it out there that he didn't know how to behave himself. Whatever it was he showed like a dream, maybe he finally has the idea!

Sorry I'm too far away to help out, but would have been nice to handle a well behaved young male. Bohdi still thinks it's playtime and lets chase the leader

After reading these replies I'm quite keen to show in some of the other states, especially Vic if its facilities can match us here in WA. What about Tasmania it's so beautiful down there. Any Tasmanians out there who would like to comment on their show scene?

I'm fairly new to DOL so not sure if this has been looked at before. But have been thinking if I was to move which State would have the best show scene? Not just in terms of number of shows and size of entries, but access to experienced local, interstate and international judges, show facilities and training and how welcome are newcomers. What do you think? In WA I have been blown away by our wonderful canine centre, nearly all the shows are held there which is within 40 mins drive for me. The undercover area is fantastic during winter especially for those of us with long coated breeds. The grounds are beautiful, smooth lawns and great shade around the perimeter and lots of parking. Not as many shows as I would like to see but people tell me that the entries ( ave. 450-700's) have really dropped in recent years. There are not shows every weekend and I do not think there is ever a choice as in other states. If you don't live in Perth you would have many long hours of travel. Most shows I have been to this year have had interstate judges, with international judges being appointed to the bigger events. As for welcoming newcomers in my opinion it's been great. Have met some really lovely people from a variety of rings and have found lots of support from people both within my breed and out. Well, thats just my opinion as a newbie, would love to hear from others.

Coco the cocker spaniel gets bathed every couple of months or as needed. I have a booster bath ( back saver) that fits perfectly into the floor space of the shower and then use the spray handshower to wet him down and rinse him off. Dried under the electric dryer all up takes about 45mins. Bohdi the shih tzu is another story altogether. In show coat he gets bathed every 4-5 days in the booster bath ( more room than the laundry sink ) and then dried under the dog dryer. All up takes just under three hours from start to finish !

Have only had my oks trolley for about 5 months now but it is a godsend. Martin is absolutely terrific, he also made us a puppy pen after I was so impressed with the trolley. I have a two door model with divider panel, close rails and brakes on two wheels. It collapses easily for packing and is light enough for me to pick up and put into the back of my wagon without doing my back in. Every weekend it carries my umbrella, stake, tent, chair, windbreak, grooming bag and esky, oh yes and the dog!

Totally agree, hairs growing inside the corners of their eyes irritate and block their tear ducts making the problem much worse. Most tearing seems to stop once they have finished teething until then really all you can do after the vet check has cleared them of any physical problems is wash daily under their eyes with warm water to keep it as clean as possible and then dry. I tried all sorts of remedies both commercial and home made none were reallly effective.

Congratulations Bel, well done. I wish you all the best in the group. You have inspired me to start travelling with Bohdi, I might just bring him to Sydney at the end of the year when I visit my Mum over there.

Bel, you sure do get around. Saw your great results at the Darwin Royal. I'm so envious, would love to take Bohdi interstate to show. Can you tell me what you take at a minimum to have your Shih tzus ready for a royal when you are not at home.

Brought a puppy from Hobart to Perth back in May with Qantas. He had to be booked through the freight dept, even though I only had hand luggage and no other checked baggage. Freight costs were $50 as he and his crate were under 10kg. I also purchased a crate from them for $60 as I had heard they can be quite fussy about the type crate they allow. I had organised this from Perth and found the people in the freight dept. at Hobart to be very helpful. He arrived in Perth, no problems, but because he travelled freight I then had to go and collect him from the freight office in another part of the airport. I believe between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane they can travel as excess baggage and can come out with all of the other baggage so you can collect them as you get your other stuff and go on your way. Hope this helps.

Dog Show Trolleys - Which Brand Is Best?
shazlm64 replied to Dante's topic in General Dog Discussion
OKS trolleys will add brakes as an option. For those who live in out the way places, if you contact him directly he can quote you freight at really good prices, so give him a call it will be worth your while. -
Hi all Have just seen the most beautiful collection of show suits on the DOL for sale section. Unfortunately not my size but a 16-18 but I'm sure they will suit someone out there.

Hi, I'm going to be in Sydney the weekend of the 13th of March and was wondering how I might find out if any Shih Tzu are entered at the Castle Hills Ag show on the Saturday. As I'm a newbie from WA thought it might be a good opportunity to see how it's all done on the other side of the country. Thanks.
