  1. awesome! I'm on the DOL fanpage now too - thanks for the link JLC! You may all be shocked to learn this, but if anyone wants to add me on FB, my name is .. Alex Hegyesi.
  2. I would agree. If you believe your dog would benefit from some good oils, perhaps add your own (maybe olive?) to the fish when you feed it to him?
  3. wth kirty? and from then on every time the phone rang the cat would inadvertantly pee itself or something?
  4. Our old BC, Tobie, learned to go to bed. His bed was in the garage, and when we were getting ready to go to bed we would always call him with us into the garage and tell him it was bedtime, cause we like to talk to our animals. Anyway, it only took a couple of weeks and we'd be in the loungeroom and tell him 'bedtime', and he'd wag his tail and trot quietly to the door, where he'd wait for us to open it and then he'd go sit on his bed so we could clip him to his chain and say goodnight! I swear, he must have been a bit sick of us by the end of the day and just wanted to go to bed so he could have some time to himself! He seemed really excited to go to bed? Maybe that was his 'special time'
  5. They definately sound like characters. From what I've been reading they don't seem to be as stubborn and are more eager to please than their counterparts, the Akita and Shiba. They are also very intelligent and have a pretty high hunting drive. They sound like a lot of fun though for the right person.
  6. I've noticed some in the US but apart from that I believe they are quite scarce.. OH fell in love with their nature - he's a complete outdoorsman! "Shikoku dogs are tough and sufficiently agile to run through a mountainous region. They are the ideal companion for active outdoor people. They are very energetic and active outside but they are calm and quiet indoors." OH's dream dog!
  7. Has anybody known of any Shikokus at all being in Australia? Just curious as I can't seem to find any aussie info on them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikoku_(dog)
  8. Well, that coming from a breeder, it sounds like the right place to go! Thanks.
  9. Awesome, thankyou, I'll definatey give them a ring.
  10. Awesome, I've had someone else recommend them to me. What is it you like about them? Expertise? Care? Service? Price?
  11. Apparently not many Bendigonians on DOL
  12. Also will post this in the cat thread. I'm sure this thread can apply to dogs too anyway. ;) Hey there guys, I've been living in Bendigo since early 2009, and have happened upon a young stray cat recently - first time I've looked after an animal in about four years so of course I have no idea where the best place to go for vets in Bendigo is. I've been searching for his owners but it's not looking promising as he's not microchipped, not desexed, and had no ID on him when I found him. I've had him for about a week now with no one coming forward despite all the posters I have put up around the suburb/post offices/servos - soo.. basically, I'm going to have to start planning for his future - and this means getting him desexed and having all his vet work done soon. I'll leave it for a bit longer but I'm sure you can imagine I'm loath to leave him entire and unvaccinated. So, are there any Bendigonians out there who could recommend a good vet to me? I just want someone reliable and knowledgeable, but also someone who won't break the bank re: desexing. I want to do the best I can with this little boy but my funds do have limits - and I'm sure there are people out there who charge reasonable prices. People who frequent the cat thread may recognise this little boy as Mister - yes, the one with the horrible breath which is much improved!
  13. There we go! Awesome. Now to fit the other half of the puzzle together.
  14. How could two blue dogs produce a black pup? Isn't the dilute recessive dd? So if both parents are dd then all the pups would have to be dd. At least, that is how I understand it? Yes, I believe so too? Perhaps it was a pup that had slightly irregular dilution. Unfortunately I can't find a photo of a dog for an example. Not sure if it's related to Colour Dilution Alopecia, but sometimes a dilute coloured pup will have slightly irregular patches of darker colour along with the dilution. Not like a merle but like random patches (could be a small patch the size of a peanut, or huge covering most of the dog) of slightly darker colour. Perhaps that was the case and it looked somewhat black rather than blue?
  15. I can't possibly imagine how those people would feel right now, losing a five year battle for their obviously very beloved dog. ;)
  16. I think he will be a very handsome little chap. And in the words of Ellz, 100% squishable. ;)
  17. thanks everyone! ;) I should explain that the flyscreen door - the actual mesh- is actually some sort of cast metal rather than a pliable mesh - that is soldered on as part of the door.
