Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy
mr.mister replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
crikey. Okay, a pup is not 'ruined' by being placed on LR. It CAN be upgraded to MR. I repeat. It is possible to upgrade to MR. All is not lost. However, this is at the complete discretion of the breeder, and a responsible breeder will only consider upgrading if the pup has grown up to be show worthy and correct to the standard. If a breeder refuses, they are completely within their rights and normally have a completely valid reason. Breeders are responsible for the lives they bring into this world and are very serious about it. For crying. out. loud. -

Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy

Of course it can. Use dogs with the same lines. Your boy is on limited register because you were conned out of a main registration that was rightfully yours.............unless you got him at a reduced price like the old days unpapered sale. Because you knew little about the breed and your boy was your introduction doesn't automatically make you an irresponsible owner unworthy of a main registered pup. That's a cheek in it's self.........if a breeder thinks I am not worthy of, or qualify for a main registered pup, they can belt it up their jumper........I will go elsewhere to a breeder who doesn't want their cake and eat it too Seriously? AFAIK that sounds like something a responsible breeder would do. No, just because they don't know a lot about the breed does not make them irresponsible, you're right. However, how is the breeder to know that for sure? Surely they are only doing the right thing by the breed, particularly if they know he's only going to a pet home. If it turns out that they decide they would like to get into showing, they could start in neuter class, and if they really liked it they could look at getting a show prospect on main. The breeder has kept the dog's sibling and parents so still has access to that line. No one was being 'conned' here. -

a pup that may not be of show quality is hardly faulty, it could be as something as minor as a mis mark, a bit too much white for example. Something that has no bearing on the pups ability to live a long and normal life with it's new family. If it has a disqualifying fault, it's faulty. A crossbreed can live long healthy life too, but cannot be papered. Not all puppies rated as very promising turn out champions but are still breedworthy and still shown and bred. If it's a good pup, it deserves to be main registered IMO. I do wish you'd answer my previous post. Okay, so why? Why does it deserve to be main registered, if it is going to a pet home and is not to be used for breeding? Limit registering isn't bulletproof but puts a safety blanket there in case, despite the breeder's better judgement, the dog falls into the wrong hands and is bred. Just because it's a 'good dog' doesn't warrant MR and being bred. God knows we've got enough dogs on earth needing homes so when one chooses for breeding, one needs to choose very carefully. I know it doesn't solve all issues, but I personally can't find the point of putting a pup on main if it is solely intended as a pet not to be bred from. edit: spelling brainfart. -

well see i thought it was taking the piss so i joined, then i had a group of fb friends messaging me why I'd like such a royal tool. I was horrified as I thought it was a mock up so I unjoined. But god, that thing about people wanting to touch his beard ;) but then lower down it has links to his online shop? So I'm confused. -

adding to this post ^ the agouti gene can act off most base colours (except red and merle as it cannot display either properly) so you could have a chocolate dog with the agouti gene acting upon it to get a chocolate sable. Same applies with all the solid colors. -
Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy
mr.mister replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not necessarily. If a breeder is using imported stock....stock that they paid a premium to import, I can definitely see why they would want pet pups to be desexed.....because they would not want their imported lines used indiscriminately. They would want to be the ones to engineer the use of the genetic material being used as they obviously imported with a view to the future. And I suppose the same can be said of any breeder who puts a lot of time, effort and forethought into their program and maps out the future carefully. They would not want just anyone using their lines, and who can blame them? Of course we know why breeders place restrictions on their puppies, but if they have such a keen desire to do so, they could always keep the litter for themselves. As a purchaser for me, there is no in between.........either sell the whole puppy unrestricted or don't sell them at all. Personally, I am just not interested in restricted puppy sales and provides absolutely no benefits to the purchaser whatsoever :D But why? As repeated. If the dog is not to be bred from, why? And I'm also confused as to why a breeder should keep an entire litter regardless of individual pup quality, just because otherwise they'd go on limit? I also might add, Limit is not designed to benefit the buyer. It is designed to keep breeder's lines safe and help ensure that any random, indiscrimiate breeding doesn't take place. -
Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy

Our BC boy died from poisoning from the annual heartworm injection. He was a rescue, and we hadn't been told anything about risks involved with certain vaccines. We simply trusted our vet (we didn't know we had any reason not to) when they offered the injection, and after a full year of on-and-off illness, with us having no idea what was going on, he passed 6 weeks after the second injection from a massive haemorrhage (sp). So, there is validity in vaccination conditions I think. I think going so far as to say you cannot vaccinate your dog ever is going too far, but making a point of educating new puppy buyers (and warning against) certain vaccines and medications can in the end save the dog's life. I wish we'd had the knowledge. add: I think some of those conditions are rather ridiculous and would ward off many a pet puppy buyer. -

Companion Dog Breeds For Mum

I too would be leaning toward suggesting a Greyhound. This may be the perfect compromise - still a large dog, but very laid-back and gentle, very affectionate, and a low maintenance coat to boot. All of that AND amazing good looks! GAP is a good program that may be worth looking into. Even if she is unsure, she could foster a grey to see if it suits her. -
How Does One Become A Registered Breeder?
mr.mister replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agreed! I personally do not agree with breeding for the sole aim to produce pet quality puppies, as there are thousands of animals in shelters dying everyday that would make wonderful pets. Whether they are show or working lines, they need to be bred to improve the breed (this means considering ALL aspects from temperament to health to conformation to whatever) - otherwise, how could one justify breeding more animals when we aleady have a surplus? -

My Swf Howled For The First Time Today :)
mr.mister replied to PepitoVFR's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our BC boy used to howl with us when we whistled at a particular pitch! It would have to be a fairly long whistle, and he'd wiggle-butt and become very excited, start wuffling and yipping and then eventually break out into a full-blown howl. It appeared to be a very exciting thing for him. Can't help as to why they do it though! I do believe it has something to do with 'pack'. Tobie only ever did it when we were all together and it was a very interactive thing. -

Need Advice In Creating A Stress Free Bath Time.

as well as what others have suggested, I would incorporate positive reinforcement. Meet acceptable, calm behaviour with pleasant treats such as praise or a favourite food. -
I personally find that understandable. You made an effort to place her with a family you knew well and who also had an older dog, and who you were comfortable they would give her a happy home. What I don't understand are people who surrender their geriatric animals to pounds - whatever the reason. AFAIK they could at least find someone they knew who could take the dog rather than just dump them, scared and alone, where they will most likely be PTS. I don't care what reason they have. At least do it the right way.

I remember while I was doing work experience at a rescue, I overheard a conversation on the phone between a volunteer and obviously someone wanting to surrender their dog. The dog was ten years old and they didn't want to take him when they moved house.. the poor volunteer was desperately trying to convince them not to dump him, even if they had a kind friend they could give him to or something. I couldn't possibly imagine surrendering a dog I've had for that long, let alone at ALL. I don't really know what goes through these people's heads..

Teaching A Dog To Only Eat When A Command Is Given.
mr.mister replied to Whipitgood's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think I would agree with this. On a basic level like with our BC, I think it works great to make mealtime a lot easier but wouldn't rely on it, nor push it for much more than that. Daisy is pretty reliable when it comes to looking at me for permission to eat but I know if I'm not there and someone offers her food there is no way she wouldn't take it On the other hand I can have her sitting in heel position giving me 110% focus while someone holds food out to her and/or waves it around and she doesn't even look at it. If I left her to her own devices though... That was exactly the case with our dog.
